  1. I do, too. In time I'll grow to accept someone else as the #1 slugger on this team. I like Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez very much, but they're no Sammy. Nothing was better than a Sammy homer to win it. Nothing. I love Sammy. Always have, always will. I was appalled at the insanity surrounding that thing at the end of the 04 season. I didn't care if he showed up for the game or not, the season was over. Lord knows that Chip and Steve didn't show up for that one (yeah, they sat there, but they didn't say much of anything) considering they knew they were both lame ducks at that point. Obviously, I'm glad we traded him when we did, because things had deteriorated, and because I wouldn't have wanted to watch him play so badly in Baltimore this last season, but Sammy was what made me a Cub fan and I'll always remember that. :D
  2. Not to speak for Raisin, but what gets me is that ND is the highest ranked team with 2 losses, and they have possibly the worst profile to show for it. At least O$U, Auburn, and Georgia have wins over good teams, and the worst of the losses that OSU, Georgia, or Auburn(who really has no business being above UCLA) have suffered is Georgia Tech. Michigan is 7-3...that's not too terribly bad. And is Georgia Tech really that much better than MSU? The Spartans were undefeated after they beat ND, after all. ND hasn't played a great schedule, but I'm pretty sure Kentucky, Indiana, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Arkansas and Illinois are all still in the SEC or Big Ten. For every cupcake ND has played (Purdue, Navy, BYU, Washington), most of the big conference teams have played one as well. OSU has played SDSU, Miami (OH), Indiana and Illinois. Auburn has played Miss St, Ball St, W. Kentucky, and Kentucky. Georgia has played UL Monroe, Miss St, Vanderbilt, Arkansas and still has Kentucky left. So the schedule argument really doesn't hold up in my estimation.
  3. Hendry better be pretty damn sure that he's got Furcal in his back pocket, because where does he go if he's dumped Nomar and Furcal goes elsewhere? If Neifi starts at short I'm hanging myself.
  4. You mean the incoherent yelling in the background? Yeah, I didn't like him either. And I do miss Chip...he got more pumped up than Len does...although I'm sure that will change the longer Len does Cubs games.
  5. There's a good chance everyone on the board is going to hate me by the end of next Sunday's game.
  6. After watching PrimeTime highlights, the Bears orange jerseys looked more like the Bucs' old jerseys than anything.
  7. Ummm...wow. I knew Bears games were ugly, but that's like a whole new level.
  8. If the Pack and Panthers win we're all by ourselves for the top seed. Then a win over the Bears would make Atlanta the only logical competitor with us for home field. We could be in control of the entire conference in two weeks...or we could be in a wild card hunt. Big stretch.
  9. hunting season, i guess.
  10. That's honestly almost nausea-inducing.
  11. Holy crap, is EVERYONE in the organization going to use this excuse to pick up crappy hitters?
  12. Is there some kind of rule that says SF needs to beat the NFC contenders and only the NFC contenders? Their two wins are over the Rams and Bucs, they're playing the Bears tough...I guess I should be glad now that Carolina doesn't play them.
  13. I have no clue why 1-loss Oregon is behind OSU and ND, no clue why 1-loss Bama is behind ND and much-inferior-loss Va Tech, and no clue why Va Tech is behind Notre Dame. But I'm not going to complain. For every time a team has been helped by early losses (see ND 2000), they've been screwed by late losses (ND 1998 and 2002).
  14. The new AP poll: 1. USC (56) 10-0 1,616 2. Texas (9) 10-0 1,569 3. Miami 8-1 1,483 4. LSU 8-1 1,418 5. Penn State 9-1 1,334 6. Notre Dame 7-2 1,246 7. Virginia Tech 8-1 1,214 8. Alabama 9-1 1,176 9. Ohio State 8-2 1,163 10. Oregon 9-1 1,022 11. Auburn 8-2 963 12. UCLA 9-1 876 13. West Virginia 8-1 837 14. Georgia 7-2 780 15. TCU 10-1 719 16. Fresno State 8-1 632 17. Michigan 7-3 607 18. Louisville 7-2 486 19. South Carolina 7-3 402 20. Florida 7-3 325 21. Texas Tech 8-2 319 22. Florida State 7-3 173 23. Boston College 7-3 154 24. UTEP 8-1 124 25. Wisconsin 8-3 104
  15. Yes, but since I don't like UNC, they'll somehow field a good team and go to the Sweet 16 anyway. I really dislike the Heels...
  16. VT was off and I have no idea why they jumped ND. They probably should be ahead of ND, but why now and not last week?
  17. I'm telling you, the Bears' slogan should be "This game is butt-ugly!"
  18. The Indy Fox affiliate is blacking out the NFL telecast, so I get to watch Colts-Texans. What a barn burner this ought to be... I hate all TV deals right now.
  19. ND is one of the three teams DePaul plays twice. ND also plays Providence and Marquette twice. That's a big improvement on the TV-conscious, murderous slate that had us playing Syracuse, UConn and Pitt twice every year.
  20. They sure did. I know from experience inputting player names into NCAA Football 2006 that a Chauncey Stovall exists and plays football for somebody, but I have no idea what school. That guy is a moron.
  21. Surely you don't think Jim Bowden would give us TWO of his starters for one minor leaguer??
  22. That sucks. I REALLY want Oregon to lose. Otherwise ND may end up playing them in the Fiesta Bowl, and I can think of much better matchups. Can we make Oregon play USC again? No offense to PSU, but I'd be more worried about a potent offense like Oregon's in a Fiesta Bowl matchup. ND will not be playing PSU in the Fiesta Bowl. If they both win out it should be PSU/ACC in the Orange and ND/either Pac 10 or at-large (probably UCLA/Oregon or O$U...maybe Bama) That's even worse. UCLA scares the living crap out of me to be honest. If "Good UCLA" shows up they're one of the top 5 teams in the country. It's "Bad UCLA" that submarined their season over the last few weeks. I don't know what to make of Bama. On paper, ND would be in an ideal situation to beat up on them with their offense, but Bama is a very scrappy team. Not many teams would have made it unbeaten that far without their best playmaker. I have no worries whatsoever about O$U. We would smoke them, IMO.
  23. Oregon's offense isn't as potent with Kellen Clemens injured. He's hurt? I missed that...but still, the last time we played a team from Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl...well, we came out on the short end.
  25. Fixed.
