  1. Those damn blackout rules forced Yes, Dear reruns to be shown up on the Indy Fox affiliate instead of the Panthers/Bucs game last week.
  2. Dusty Baker would never bat Dunn 2nd, ever. Dunn would be 4th between Lee and Ramirez because of the almighty R/L/R.
  3. Yeah, that was tough to swallow. I think Sosa's OPS was 1.170-something and Bonds' was over 1.300. Too big of a gap to really consider Sosa. However, had we ended up in the postseason, I'm sure the writers would've given it to him, or at least thought about it. The 2nd-best hitter in the Giants' lineup that season was then-defending MVP Jeff Kent. The 2nd-best hitter in the Cubs' lineup was Fred McGriff, and only for half a season. In the other half of that season, the 2nd-best hitter in the Cubs lineup was Rondell White. That's why I thought Sammy deserved it.
  4. What might it take to convince the Sox to unload him? I don't know for certain, but it would be more than the Cubs are willing to give up, that I can guarantee.
  5. I don't see the Sox unloading Jon Garland. He's got the brightest future of anyone currently playing for that team. That said I would probably do a Walker + 2 prospects for Garland + Marte deal, I just don't think the Sox will do it.
  6. I, to this day, have no idea how we almost made the playoffs that year with Bill Mueller missing most of the year (and being replaced by Ron Coomer), Damon Buford playing a prominent role, Matt Stairs playing first for half the year, our best pitcher being Jon Lieber, the immortal Jeff Fassero blowing games left and right out of the bullpen, etc. That was just a majorly overachieving team. What a fun season. :P
  7. I would like Washburn. He's a decent lefty who doesn't walk very many (roughly 3 BB/9). He doesn't K too many people, but I think he could be had for relatively cheap compared to the other FA pitchers out there.
  8. I believe Kearns has played CF for Cincinnati before, so he'd probably be acceptable for the Cubs. Nevertheless I wouldn't trade Prior at this point.
  9. Let's keep Pie in the minors until Dusty is let go after next season (please let him go...), and then Dusty won't get a shot at screwing him up.
  10. Except this time we have more than just blind faith to lead us to believe it. Prior hasn't been hurt since 04 except for that fluke line drive, and Wood sounds really healthy for once.
  11. I'll take the first option everyday and twice on Sundays. What if Lugo cost the Cubs Pie? Then the Devil Rays will keep BJ Upton in the minors for another year because no one would trade for Lugo at that cost. He will cost some team some talent Raisin, maybe not Pie talent but some pretty decent talent. Agreed, but the DRays aren't getting a top-25 MLB prospect for him. They're more likely to get something like Hill and Nolasco for him. I'd probably make that deal if the saved money would help us land Giles.
  12. I'm not trading Z for anything less than Pujols, ARod or maybe M. Cabrera.
  13. I don't think Hendry will be trading Pie this off-season. And I hope I'm right.
  14. If Wood and Prior are at 2003 level and Hendry does even a below-average job filling out the offense, I have a hard time not seeing the Cubs in the playoffs.
  15. Me too. I'd also do it to get Chad Tracy, to go off-topic slightly.
  16. That's a very valid point, considering up to this point we'd never heard anything about the Cubs' possible interest in Adam Dunn and actually we were sure that he'd never be a Cub because he doesn't have the right "skill set" for Hendry. This could all be a giant ploy, which I'd applaud if it got us Giles for less money.
  17. Lord forbid we have ONE park in the majors in which it's more difficult to hit homers. We have enough Minute Maids, Coors, et al that it wouldn't hurt to have one Petco.
  18. First and only 7th-inning stretch conductor to be ejected from the park.
  19. I think Furcal will be a Cub by the end of next week to be honest. Pierre could take a while.
  20. What a first game. I don't remember much of my first game, except for Andre Dawson singled and they won. I think they played the Pirates? I'm pretty sure it was 1992. But they should show that game on ESPN Classic from time to time. Definately one of the best regular-season games I've ever seen. That was just nuts. I also remember that day because my dad came home about the 4th inning or so because he lost his job. But he has a good one now, so it's all cool. I'm so jealous. My first game was a very boring 4-2 loss to Pittsburgh in 2000, the only highlights being solo homers by EY and Sammy.
  21. Stop clogging the bases, man. That's why we need Neifi to clear off the bases with his GIDP's.
  22. And go winless in the Big Ten? The all-blue combo they had against the Packers on MNF a couple of years ago wasn't that bad, but that was just a different combination. There really isn't a reason to use alternate jerseys when they're not throwbacks. i liked the blue pants they had in that game. The uni's looked a lot smoother i guess is the word you could use. i just hope the Packers never EVER wear those hideous "golden" yellow alternate jerseys. I didn't know they even had such jerseys. Hopefully they learned the lesson from the Saints' gold jerseys and the Browns' orange jerseys.
  23. Let's hope he also has trouble catching it, thereby scaring JH off.
  24. One thing Hendry doesn't generally do is play his cards close to the vest when going after someone. The only reason the Lee trade was such a surprize is because the deal with Baltimore fell through. What was the deal with BAL supposed to be? All I remember is getting an e-mail from cubs.com that said "Choi for Lee" and wondering why the heck we could get DLee for a guy who'd just sucked it up for us in 03.
