  1. How did they start last year again? I'm not willing to bet on another 47-26 finish, especially not with Chandler regressing terribly. But let's hope that I'm wrong and starting Sweets will infuse some energy into the team.
  2. Ball State looked awful today in beating Oakland City 78-72. (A team that lost by 62 to Butler.) It didn't help matters that the officials were less than favorable to the Cards, that BSU couldn't hit their free throws, and that the Oaks played pretty damn well in the 2nd half. If they'd played just about any other team in Division I, this one would probably have been an L. Much improvement is needed before the next game at Wright State.
  3. In my biased opinion, the Michigan State team that beat ND was much much MUCH better than the team that lost 6 of their last 7. The problem with us scheduling MSU in September is they are always much better in that month than any other. I also find it hard to fault ND for its weak schedule when they have absolutely blown out the opponent in every one of its wins except for Michigan at the Big House, where it's pretty much impossible to dominate the Wolverines. Yes, Va Tech, Oregon and UCLA are very good teams, but Oregon lost their QB (I know it's not their fault, but they're just not as good a team without Clemens), UCLA has hit the crapper in the last month even though they have only one loss to show for it, and Va Tech had their chance to prove themselves, and got crushed by Miami at home. ND has improved throughout the season whereas these three teams have regressed. On another note, Miami has busted out those awful orange one-sleeve jerseys. When will someone tell these teams that those jerseys are AWFUL?
  4. Bears rush defense: 1st Panthers rush defense: 2nd Carolina's QB: Jake Delhomme, Mr. Clutch, 8 game winning drives in 2003, one NFC title, damn near beat possibly the best of all the Pats' 3 Super Bowl teams Chicago's QB: Kyle Orton, known for grossly overthrowing or underthrowing wide open receivers downfield, 5 INTs vs Cincinnati's D who is not much better than Carolina's if at all Yes, I'm biased, but the advantage seems to point Carolina's way.
  5. Indeed it is resolved. Thanks, Tim!
  6. So they shouldn't try to score and they should shut their offense down? You can't blame the other team. And you can't blame the team that gives up the TD either. It just happens.I don't blame anyone. It's just a mild annoyance. ND wins. One step closer to Tempe.
  7. Pet Peeve: When the other team's first-string offense scores a TD on your second-team defense to make a win look less impressive than it was. 34-10 ND.
  8. 34-3 Notre Dame. Fitzpatrick the kicker got hurt getting roughed on a FG attempt. Hope he's ok. Today's struggles aside (1 missed FG, 1 blocked FG) he's a valuable guy.
  9. It's total BS, I'll agree with you on that Derwood. FG Fitzpatrick. It's his final game at ND Stadium along with many other great ones. 24-3 Irish. Do bowl tie-ins allow the Fiesta to have 2 at-large teams? Yes, the Fiesta gets 1st and 3rd pick for their chosen teams. ND will obviously be pick number 1, and if O$U is available at number 3 (which is very likely, for reasons I am not sure of at this point) they would almost assuredly also be chosen.
  10. Reason number 5,352 why the Hammond/Haden ND on NBC tandem is the worst in the universe: They use up throwaway minutes talking about Bruno's Pizza...
  11. It's total BS, I'll agree with you on that Derwood. FG Fitzpatrick. It's his final game at ND Stadium along with many other great ones. 24-3 Irish.
  12. Hilarious. The Syracuse receiver juggles the ball right into the hands of Leo Ferrine, who takes it back 16 yards for the score. 21-3 Irish. This team is far inferior to the Navy team ND played last week.
  13. Looks like Hendry's picture. Who is Moran? It's yet another reference to a Cardinals' fan's sign that says "Get a Brain! Morans!" Anyone got the picture?
  14. Looks like we'll get that ND/OSU Fiesta Bowl...
  15. It was down for me for a while. It's back up but the new post thing is still not working. I use Firefox and I am on through my school's Ethernet connection in the dorms.
  16. BSU faces Oakland City tonight in their season opener. The so called "Mighty Oaks" apparently lost by 60 or something to Butler, who is a far inferior team to the Cards, so this should be ugly.
  17. Ball State loses to CMU 31-24 in overtime to end the season 4-7. So much for ending on a 4 game win streak. In fairness, BSU played perhaps the hardest schedule in the history of any MAC team this year, with three nightmare road nonconference games, no games against creampuff Buffalo or Kent State, and with the exception of Eastern Michigan, every Cardinal opponent this season has a .500 or better record. ND leads the Cuse 14-3, and their defense has been dominant. Not surprising since the Irish have scored more 2nd quarter points than Cuse has any points at all.
  18.   Brilliant.
  19. Is there someting wrong with Matt Morris besides his Cardinal-ness? The more I think about it, he should come cheaper than Millwood or Burnett, and would be nice 3 or 4 starter. Particularly based on Rothschild's recent comments, that makes some sense. I don't dislike Morris as some do. I recall that he and Wood were considered the future aces of the NL not so long ago. Plus, he now has a ton of playoff experience with an organization that does not tolerate excuses or nonsense. I like that about him. I am wary of how much cash we might give him, but 3 years sounds fine, especially since this will be Maddux's final one with us. I wouldn't mind having Morris, although I am sure all the Cards fans here on NSBB would roast us for getting him.
  20. I agree with UMFan. And being a mod would be too cool for words. :P This is pretty much my favorite website, that's why I spend every waking minute of my life here! And about a post of the week thread... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/graphics/2004/03/16/bfstars16.jpg Do it. DO it. DO it.
  21. I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but when I click on the orange New Posts button next to a thread, I get an error message that says "www.northsidebaseball.com could not be found". Any diagnoses for what might be causing that? They'd be greatly appreciated.
  22. Or Jason Whitlock. Or Alan Grant. Basically any black sports pundit except for maybe Charles Barkley.
  23. Bulls suck... Really bad. Season all but over. We're as good as 3-8 playing the Lakers, Spurs and Rockets next three games.
  24. Sweets starting over Songaila! :D And the Bulls lead it early 11-6. Coincidence?
  25. GO BEARS!! [rant] That's one thing I hate about all of this. Teams getting made to look worse after they play teams that are at full strength at the time, then they sustain injuries, suck for a while, and no one takes it seriously. Example. Panthers beat Patriots 27-17. The only injured Pat at the time? Bruschi. Soon after that, Seymour and Harrison went down along with a bunch of other players. The Patriots team Carolina beat was much better than the 5-4 patchwork team now in assembly. It's the same thing as Notre Dame/Michigan basketball. ND lost to what was then a very good Michigan team on the road by one point. The Wolverines then watched a bunch of players injured, Daniel Horton get suspended for beating his girlfriend, and UM ended up one of the worst teams in the country, destroying ND's RPI rating and helping them get passed over for March Madness. [/rant] Carolina has to play 6-3 Atlanta twice, 6-3 Tampa once and 6-3 Dallas once in their final 5 games. You'll learn a lot about the team in those four games (as well as this one).
