  1. Clutch hitting is not a myth. Identifying clutch hitting exclusively with Derek Jeter is a myth.
  2. I'll try to stay positive in the meantime. Someone posted the likely Lee-less lineup in the game thread... Pierre Hairston Aramis Barrett Jones Walker or Mabry (1B) Murton Cedeno And it's not a terrible lineup. If DLee can be back soon, we have the capability to stay afloat for a week or so. Get well soon DLee. And when can we start the injury thread? Anyone consider the possibility that starting one might end this crap? Because not having one sure as hell hasn't helped anything.
  3. The fact that it looks like they'll both be relatively ok notwithstanding... If someone walked up to you and you didn't know it already and told you that a certain MLB team lost their best (and one of THE best) lefty specialist as well as their franchise player who they just signed to a 4/58 contract extension ON THE SAME PLAY, would you guess any team other than the Cubs? I was at a friend's and his dish was acting up so I didn't see any of this game. Good comeback by the Cubs, and I'll be praying that DLee is ready to go this weekend, but I doubt it.
  4. I may be wrong, but I think the Cubs may have been the first, or among the first to broadcast games on the internet. I used to listen for free a long time ago, before MLB took over and ended up charging. Which should be illegal, BTW.
  5. Screw the relief mark, Dempster can go get Orel's 59-inning streak.
  6. The only way Ohman should be pitching in the 9th inning of a tight game is if it is in Triple A, lefty/lefty be damned.
  7. Welcome Nola, as you can tell from my average of over 20 posts a day, I really enjoy this site, as does everyone else on here, and I'm sure you will too!
  8. I wish some of the guys I have that a billion other people don't have (A-Rod, Dunn, Pujols, Thome) would start hitting. That's really the difference right now - the guys that weren't as commonly picked. And how about some of the people that weren't even selected? Ty Wigginton has 6 homers.
  9. Or better yet, just hire better personnel. These last few years have proven we can have a winning ball club without turning Wrigley into Jumbotron-land as long as we hire the right people.
  10. The Phillies (.880), Marlins (.922) and the Giants (.724) are the only NL teams that surrender a lower OPS to Pujols than the Cubs do (.972) over his career. Pujols Splits I suggest we worry about Edmonds more, because he roasts us no matter if he's hot or cold coming into the series on a regular basis.
  11. Not a current contract, but Easley was signed to a 4/26.5 contract by Detroit and was so bad (sub-.700 OPS's in 01 and 02) that they released him and basically let TB and Florida have him for free in 2003 and 2004 respectively.
  12. Papi got me up to two, now Matt Holliday and Carlos Lee need to keep it going.
  13. There's only been two people who have said that Lee is better than Pujols, and one of them(Vance) was obviously joking. There was some debate about who's the better defender or who had the better '05, but I don't think people are claiming what you think they are. Thank you for the feedback, however, this isn't the first debate on this topic on this board. I'm not only referring to those (albeit two) on this thread, but I'm referring to those who already this year and last year were debating who the best was, including those who may only be reading but not posting. I don't think anyone debated whether they'd rather have Lee than Pujols for 2006, they simply debated who had the better 2005 - and if you look at the stats, it certainly wasn't a slam-dunk choice either way.
  14. Clearly a lazy reporter. If you want to find the juice on McGwire, then go look for it and show it to us (as San Fran reporters have done with Bonds), instead of just assuming that it's there. If this reporter has something on McGwire, then I'll be happy to listen. Otherwise, McGwire is no more guilty than Tony Gwynn, Mark Grace, Cal Ripken, Roger Clemens, etc. Mac is an easy target. That's what lazy reporters do....... they look for easy targets, and type what people want to hear. Bo-ring. Yeah, Mac's way too easy a target. You know what a sportswriter should do? Write an article accusing Augie Ojeda of steroid use and say they'll never vote for him in the HOF. THEN I'll listen. But Mac's just way too easy a target.
  15. I said literally 4 seconds before the game-winning hit "I wish Ohman would IBB Drew and let Williamson come in, because Ohman will blow it". I hate when I'm right.
  16. NEIFI! ties the game on a groundout!
  17. MURT!!!!!! Just like that, 1st and 3rd no outs, GREAT hit and run call Dusty!
  18. Wow, the injury seemed to agree with KoJock! C'mon Big Murt!!!
  19. Well, for all the bad pitching in that inning, no runs. It'd be nice to get the top of the order around again in the 7th though.
  20. Len the music aficionado sure has added a nice little song element to the broadcasts.
  21. Do the Cubs have an ace anymore?
  22. Another walk. Z's driving me nuts right now.
  23. Swear words. You can't hit when you fall behind 0-2 every single damn time.
