  1. Seconded. That's all I heard about them for a long time.
  2. 850-900 probably. His numbers will probably improve to around 875.
  3. Well, we're talking about guys that were hyped enough that they probably would be fast-tracked to the majors in many cases.
  4. The Sox are sinking very fast, and Buehrle's falling off the face of the earth at an extraordinary rate of speed.
  5. It was only a single because Escobar injured himself. I must be taking crazy pills because I swear I didn't say that. *checks* no, it was otis89, not me. No idea how my name got attached to that. It's like the Steven A.Smith/Dusty Baker appearance controversy. "Come out and boo ManCrushOnNomar"
  6. I'd like to admit that it took me until about mid-2005 before realizing the stupidity of Baker. Spot-on criticisms by BP.
  7. (a few years from now) Jeff Francoeur
  8. I read about this before it was posted here and it sure seemed like they were recruiting booers. I cannot stand Dusty, but I'm glad he's not going on that joke of a show.
  9. QFT. I don't think that many posts here attacking CBB's views, if any at all, crossed the line.
  10. I would. Hendry has shown to be far better at getting trade value than he has at outright signing free agents. 90% of Hendry's major successes as a GM have been in trades. But what about trading veterans for prospects? The only success so far is Murton, but he wasn't exactly going hard after Murton, and he didn't really trade veterans for prospects. He mostly traded prospects for a veteran and had a prospect thrown in. From what I can tell, Hendry can do a decent job of trading prospects for established young players. But he couldn't pull off a Marlins deal. You sure? I could've sworn that I heard that Hendry insisted on Murton.
  11. The '72 phillies won 59 games. Steve Carlton won 27. Thats impressive. Z better pick it up. Or the Cubs just need to suck more.
  12. The White Sox have finished under .500 exactly zero times in a year beginning with "200". The Tigers haven't even remotely contended in quite some time. Not to say that the fairweather attendance isn't annoying, but there are some degrees to look at there.
  13. I found it on ESPN.com So, are you blaming them for bringing it up? Reporting news, psshh...we all know they are only doing this to get CBB's goat
  14. I think I'm 2-4 not 3-4 since I didn't get a win last time through...not sure though.
  15. Z will have to garner serious Cy consideration if he continues winning games. (He should get it anyway, but he will if he wins games)
  16. Alou in 2003: 280/357/462. That's decidedly mediocre, at best, for a corner outfielder. Sosa: 279/358/553. Not great, but certainly a much bigger part of our success than Alou. It was pretty much the pitching and some luck that carried us.
  17. I think you're asking this question to the wrong group. There probably aren't a lot of Cub fans who believe Santo does not belong in the HOF, excluding everything he has done since he retired. Right, but can everyone be THAT wrong? You're asking this about the Baseball Writers of America, right? Remember, these guys inducted Bill Mazeroski into the Hall basically for one swing of his bat. (career OPS: .666)
  18. Cork doesn't help you hit the ball any farther and may actually be a hindrance to home run hitters. It's effect is entirely psychological. Ron was outstanding, but Sammy was better.
  19. This is an absurd argument. Sammy had arguably one of the greatest seasons in MLB history in 1998. He absolutely carried the Cubs...thats not just an assumption, the numbers bear it out. The case you are making is ridiculous. Sammy's 1998: 308/377/647, 66 hr, 158 rbi, 73 bb, 158 k Sammy's 2001: 328/437/737, 64 hr, 160 rbi, 116 bb, 153 k As outstanding as Sammy's 1998 season was, his 2001 season is among the greatest in history, at least for someone that we don't know was juicing during the season (which would DQ all those absurd numbers Barry put up from 2001-04). In addition, the team Sammy very nearly took to the playoffs by himself in 2001 was even worse than the team he took to the playoffs in 1998, as I've posted before. Sammy's 2001 is almost inarguably one of the greatest offensive seasons anyone's ever had, all things considered.
  20. So much for Z winning 17 straight decisions or whatever it was Contreras did. Dusty should've known better than to let this happen.
  21. For those curious: The 1 win was the 14-inning marathon against STL on 6/2. I'll edit this post when I find the one win when down by 3 after 7. Edit - Otis, you were right, the 1 win when down by 3 or more after 7 came against Florida on 4/24 and the 6-run eighth inning. I confess I didn't pay that much attention since it was also the night of the Bulls' Game 2 :D
  22. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA now that's a funny thought - Hendry deciding to lay down the law...
