  1. I can definitely live with Graffanino and Theriot as MI backups next year.
  2. A couple of media sources around here have said that Nate Davis, Ball State's true freshman, is getting the start at QB over Joey Lynch, who entered this year as starter for the third time and is a fifth-year senior. Curious move by coach Hoke, but if he's sticking with one, then it's probably the best decision to make.
  3. Theriot has that OPS now in about a quarter-season's worth of at bats. Tell me you wouldn't like that quarter-season at second base even if he didn't do so well in the other 3/4 of the season.
  4. Hey Len, great to have you back once again! A couple questions... Do you and Bob have a list of random topics you go to in blowout games? At times this year it got to the point where it was almost as entertaining to watch a rout as a close game because of your and Bob's ramblings! Also, if you were to recommend five bands that you have gotten into recently to NSBB, which five would you choose? Thanks again!
  5. Like Wheelimus said, it's likely that an insurance policy will cover Glendon's 2007 salary should he be unable to play.
  6. Get well soon, Glendon.
  7. Why isn't Aramis playing? I don't know if this is the worst lineup of the year, but it's definitely the worst 3-5 (Jones, Murton, Mabry).
  8. If Texas runs the table that will boost OSU's strength of schedule and the computer will like that. SOS is not used anymore in the BCS formula. http://cbs.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/7499505 Aren't the SOS's part of the computers rankings? Yes, that's why they stopped using it in the BCS, so it wouldn't be double-counted. And it is interesting to note that this year, Sagarin has ND SOS as #1. I am sure that will change in the next few weeks though. Not remotely surprising considering every ND opponent so far is either unbeaten or has their only loss against the Irish. But like you said, that's likely to start plummeting starting with Stanford week and continuing into mid-November. ND probably won't have a top-30 schedule this season to be honest.
  9. I don't think Hendry would make either of those deals. He likes Murton, he used to like Cedeno (not sure if his opinion's colored by this season, probably not), and he likes Izturis too much to give him up for Lowell.
  10. On the other hand, wasn't their inability to run the ball early in those games part of the reason for those early deficits? Well, I didn't see the first half of MSU, but the first half of Michigan had a lot more to do with turnovers (3 of them in the 1st half, all of them in ND's territory) than running the football. From what I hear, Brady Quinn being off had more to do with ND falling behind early to MSU than anything.
  11. I always liked him better than their other college FB guys, but when he predicted Notre Dame to go 4-2 in their first six and average over 30 points per game in those six last year in the face of the 0-6 BS, and then turned out to be exactly right on both counts, that pretty much clinched it for me.
  12. TBAs are now updated.
  13. The seats were sold, but the lost revenue from fans not buying concessions was huge. And the tickets didn't sell out this year. They won't sell out next year unless some major changes are made. Just because tickets have gone quickly since 2003, doesn't mean they always will. Do people not remember the 90's? You could get seats anywhere anytime. I'm hoping that's the case. I like the idea of not having to search Ebay religiously to find tickets.
  14. Theismann's hire probably had more to do with his NFL experience than college. Holtz worked on CBS in between his ND and SC jobs. I really like Golic, I think he's well-spoken and makes good points. Bob Davie is actually not a bad color man when he's not disagreeing (incorrectly) with Charlie Weis's moves, which I think he's done 55 times in the two ND games he's called this year.

  16. I heartily disagree that ND can't run the ball. They ran GT and PSU to death. The problem is that they were down 27-7 to Michigan early and were down 24-7 to MSU early so that forced them to pass the rest of those games. I expect the running game to be a big part of the plan against Purdue.
  17. You can't say enough about how good a guy Warrick Dunn is.
  18. Posted it in the Bears' forum, but it can go here too: Alexander broke his foot for Seattle and is out indefinitely. The Madden Jinx is at it again. Link

  20. That says it all. Was Hendry so loyal to Maddux that he just gave him away? Were there any truth to reports that the Dodgers were willing to give us Matt Kemp? I doubt it and I really hope that wasn't true. Right after the Maddux trade Hendry said the Dodgers had been offering 2 high level prospects. Were those names ever revealed? No, and according to numerous sources such an offer was never on the table.
  21. Bruce, if you re-visit or, if anyone knows the answer, I'd really like to know why a MI must bat 2nd... At the rate Theriot has been getting on base, hitting 2nd is probably the 2nd-best possible place in the order, and with leadoff out of the question it's as good as we could hope.
  22. If we hire Girardi or Fredi or Dierker and make some decent FA moves, then I'll be optimistic. Until then, not so much.
  23. I agree, Flames, NIU should be favored and win fairly easily (I predicted 31-20 on my radio show yesterday). The sad part is that our run defense is pretty good and will likely keep Garrett Wolfe from exploding too much (under 150 rushing yards and 225 total yards would be a win in my book), but the seconday has simply been awful (NDSU, a running team, passed for 452 yards against us last week). Brady Hoke will make sure his team's ready to play after being thoroughly outcoached last week, and it should be a decent game, but I don't like our chances. If we somehow win though, NIU falls to 0-2 in the MAC and we can theoretically make it a two-horse race in the West with us and Toledo. As for ND, anything short of complete annihilation of Purdue is unacceptable. The Boilers are among the worst 4-0 teams in the history of football and it really shouldn't be less than a 21-point win.
  24. The Bengals celebrated victory last night by getting arrested again.
