  1. I like most of the points that are being made in this thread, and USSoccer's was the finest baseball post that I've probably ever read on this site. Put me also in jjgman and Constable's "hate the money but like the signing" group as well.
  2. Please be right. If we get real Prior back this team will win the pennant. (I can't believe that one month removed from a 66-win season I'm saying this and not even joking)
  3. That's a good point, and I'm starting to think that as long as USC loses a game UM will play for the title no matter what Florida or Arkansas does.
  4. Further, wasn't there some suspicion years ago that Soriano's age was mitigated by Dominican math? Yes there was, his age went from 24 to 26 a few years back if I remember correctly.
  5. That's not bad at all.
  6. Everyone in the Big Ten is done except for Purdue, who has a chance to be the worst 10-win team in the history of college football if they beat Hawaii and win their bowl game to go 10-4.
  7. No possible way. I think Lugo is the only remaining offensive player the Cubs are really going to look at. From here on it's pitching, pitching, pitching.
  8. Where does Manny play? This isn't beer league softball with four OFs. I don't want Lugo in the OF if he's signed. He plays left, obviously. Murton is the 4th man or on another team. I'd prefer Lugo at short too, but I'll take him however I can get him.
  9. Wow, Soriano in right, possibly Lugo in center, Jacque on another team as part of a Manny package? =P~
  10. I really like Lugo at short. Would that mean a Murt/Jacque platoon in left field if he played center? Because...that's good.
  11. Soriano in right? That would make Soriano's production probably a little above average in right, and make Jacque's production much better in center. I'm not sure why we're putting a bad defensive player in center and a decent one in right though.
  12. The silver lining is that his OBP will likely be higher than Pierre's.
  13. Ball State cruises to a 65-48 win over Prairie View A&M in the first round of the Las Vegas Holiday Invitational. This team can play some defense. Next up is Chattanooga at home in game two of the invite before that Kansas/WKU double tilt on Friday and Saturday.
  14. USC can and should be #2 if they beat ND, no matter the margin. They have played the strongest schedule of any contender, by far.
  15. Walks don't usually vary that much unless something clicks...at least I don't think they do. Hopefully I'm right but probably not. :P
  16. Sullivan says he's likely to play CF. Even a mediocre Soriano puts up incredible CF numbers.
  17. Exactly. If the Cubs by some grace of God get Lugo and Westbrook, we have the best team in the NL not named the Mets. And that would be amazing.
  18. And I see no way the pitching staff can be any worse. At the least, we probably won't have to start 15 different pitchers or whatever the nuts number was. All it took is one giant move, and the Cubs are a contender if Soriano puts up even a 320 OBP with his 35-some homers.
  19. I think that's what it took to get him to sign, you have to go the extra yard if you want the big signing IMO. Exactly. I'd like to see how this deal is structured. I wonder if we still have the money to get drew? If not, then maybe we trade for ManRam? I want to see it too. I admit this is kind of exciting because I can't remember the Cubs ever signing one the top 3 free agents since I've been a fan. I really wish it were Vlad or Beltran from the previous years but what the heck. Hasn't happened since Andre Dawson.
  20. ESPN Radio has reported it, as have Fox Sports, Yahoo! Sports and ESPNEWS. I've followed the thread, but Nothing in those reports (admittedly I haven't read all of them) mention tat its official. It's not official, but I've never seen an announcement like this come out through all the major media sources and then turn out to be false.
  21. ESPN Radio has reported it, as have Fox Sports, Yahoo! Sports and ESPNEWS.
  22. The belief is that he's better batting leadoff. We'll see. I like him 5th behind Lee and Ramirez, with Murt hitting 2nd and hopefully Julio Lugo batting 1st at SS (SB Tribune reported today that the Cubs are hot for Lugo).
  23. I'm much more worried about his sucking at the age of 31 relative to that deal. Maybe he will. But on the other hand, maybe this is a sign that he's learned his lesson relative to guys that seem to have an injury bug following them around re: JD Drew. Soriano and Drew were the two guys that gave us the best chance to win now, and getting one of them would be a great accomplishment. So you are ignoring Sori's 2004 and 2005 seasons, yet harping on Drew's injuries from 4+ years ago? If Sori does not reproduce his 06 season then he isn't going to give us the best chance to win now, definitely not as good as if Drew reproduces his 2006, 2005, 2004, etc. Drew played 72 games in 2005. These issues aren't miles in the past. I'm not saying I'd rather have Soriano than Drew, but I'm psyched that we managed to get one of them.
  24. Unbelievable. I'd never have predicted it.
  25. If we manage to make it to a World Series and win one, I don't care how many albatross contracts are on this team.
