Once again: That game should never have been that close. Ohio State thoroughly dominated the game, and if not for Troy Smith fumbling a snap and Doug Datish completely botching another, Ohio State wins the game by 13 or 17 and we're not even having this discussion.

and then this... I would love it if LSU were selected for the Rose Bowl! That would be a very exciting game. In any other year I'd be ecstatic for ND to go to the Rose Bowl, but this year there is obviously just no way that it makes any sense. But a rematch of the "Cheerios Bowl" in 1992 with Florida in the Sugar Bowl would be fine by me.

Guarantee games (as games like Buff/Wisconsin are called) are a fact of life. Ball State has decided not to play Purdue anymore because the Boilers weren't giving them enough money. SEC teams (like Auburn who we play I think in 2008) are offering over triple the money that Purdue is to play BSU. Of course, after the IU/Mich/Purdue games (BSU lost by a combined 18 points in the three games), teams might not be so eager to have the Cards in for a game. :wink:

Georgetown 69, BSU 54. Pretty obvious that offense is going to be this team's deficiency. Next up is Indiana State on Saturday. And ND barely escapes Lehigh 93-87. Next is Winston-Salem State on Wednesday as the run through the gauntlet continues.

strange situation for them. two points either way to the fourth ranked team could mean the difference between a BCS game and the Lampshade Bowl. A similar thing happened to Tennessee in 2004. We made it to the SEC championship with two losses (I still have a little hate for ND for knocking Ainge out for the year in our loss to them) and outplayed Auburn but still lost and dropped from a BCS bowl to the Cotton Bowl. We went on to demolish TAMU in the bowl. Funny how the Cotton bowl is considered an inferior bowl. When I was a kid it was one of only 4 bowls on New Years day and it was a big one. The Southwestern Conference champ would go and play an at large. I remember Joe Montanas(really Notre Dame) comeback against Houston was a Cotton Bowl The Cotton Bowl was the bowl that ND won in 1993 opposite FSU's Orange Bowl win to push the national title to the hands of the voters. The voters naturally used the head-to-head logic and voted FSU, who lost to ND 6 weeks previously, as champs. Up until the BCS it was one of the major bowls.

Wisconsin's not in the discussion. Obviously, they would be one of the leading candidates if they were eligble, but they are not. There was a little bit of discussion that if they were #3 overall if that would get them in, but it still doesn't. Two is the absolute limit for any conference. Which is a rule that IMO should be changed when you look at the fact that both LSU and Wisconsin are good enough to be BCS teams but simply have no chance (in LSU's case if Arkansas wins the SEC title game).

Now, if Carolina is the team I think they are, they're going to go to Philly and beat the ever-living crap out of them to make the pundits think they're among the best teams in the league again. Then in week 14 they'll completely crap out against the Giants, breaking NY's now 4-game losing streak and remaining a game behind New Orleans in the South. Oh, and Oakland has a good chance to fall out of the driver's seat. :wink:

Boise and ND both look to be near-locks for BCS bowls. With Michigan already in the Rose Bowl/NC game, that leaves one spot for LSU, Florida (if they lose to Arkansas) or Louisville (if Rutgers beats WV). I'm guessing Florida loses to Arkansas and takes that final at-large slot, leaving Wisconsin vs LSU as the greatest non-BCS game of all time. Why would ND get an at-large over LSU who out-ranks them by five spots? What are you talking about? It's not an either/or situation. Either they're both going to get it (if Florida wins the SEC title game) or LSU won't be eligible (because Arkansas wins and Florida goes as the 2nd SEC team).

ND against Lehigh tomorrow night as Luke Harangody continues to emerge as an impact player in the Big East. BSU heads to DC to face Georgetown. The Cardinals have to play Butler and Oklahoma State in the next two weeks as well. But a brutal non-conference slate can only help the Cardinals grow quicker.

Count me in as a UCLA fan this week. I'm also rooting for Florida (because I think ND would have a better chance against them than Arkansas), GT (so ND can at the least have the distinction of being the only team with three BCS teams on their schedule this year) and Oklahoma (just because I feel bad for all the crap that's gone on with them this year).

Amen. Also, go Florida. Judging by the newly released BCS rankings, Florida *may* be able to jump over Michigan with a win over Arkansas and of course a USC loss to UCLA. That's another reason why I don't like those playoff games. That extra game can give a team an advantage over one that just plays 12 games. Of course it can bite them too for example if Florida loses. Yeah I don't like that either. IMO Michigan is significantly better than Florida. Sorry CR, but your Bruins don't have one prayer in hell of beating USC----even though I would love to see it. We'll know tomorrow if a rusty Ben Olson will be cleared to play over the crappy Pat Cowan. Nope, they have little chance to win, given how weak the offense is. The OL will get completely manhandled, we'llbe lucky if Cowan throws more incompletions than interceptions and there are no playmakers on offense. The defense should hang in there for a while but won't be able to overcome the likely disperity in TOP and the short field from turnovers. Oddly enough, I feel the Bruins have a better chance to win this year than last. Heh, that's what I said about ND.

I thought LSU would jump the Badgers. Didn't think beating Pitt while WV losing to South Florida would let Louisville leap them though. Wisconsin drops 4 slots in the computers while idle. that's alot. c'mon STSU and Buffalo. help a brother out here man. What's Wisconsin's out of conference schedule next year? Washington State, UNLV, The Citadel and one TBA. Link it will more than likely be a MAC team. the usual MO is a Pac 10/Big 12 team/Big East team, a Mountain West or WAC team (not one or the other, I forget which conference UNLV and SDSU are in), a MAC team, and a total patsy. I think they stacked weak non conference schedule knowing Barry would be gone and wanting to give Beliema a good start. turned out to bite him in the ass. play an Oregon or Colorado like they used to and they are fourth or fifth in the BCS right now. I think every BCS team should play at least 2 BCS teams out of conference. I'd be happy with 1. Two seems like it'd be really hard to arrange.

Go whatever keeps an ND/Michigan (or for that matter ND/USC) Rose Bowl as far away from a possibility as you can.

Thank you very much. I'll be here all day. Help is on it's way in 2007. Why does anyone think this guy is a good QB? Because he is? (I'm assuming you're talking about Quinn.) He played pretty damn good yesterday. His stats were ruined by about 7 drops of perfectly thrown balls, and he was jumping around avoiding sacks all game and still did nothing to lose the game. Not his fault the defense blows and his receivers crapped out in the biggest game of the year. No. I'm talking about Brooks... I don't give a damn about Quinn. Huh, I didn't think anyone could possibly give you the idea that Brooks could be considered by anyone as a good QB. :lol:
