  1. And don't forget Chris Paul who came back to dominate at the same position Yes but Chris Paul isnt as explosive as he was before the surgery. He is still a great player but he needed to adjust his game a little when he came back. It's more than likely Rose will have to do the same. He can still be a superstar by its gonna take work to his game if previous results are any indication. Somebody on RealGM brought up Baron Davis when he was in college. But, overall, players rarely come back with 100% explosiveness after these types of injuries. I still think Rose can be dominant given the shooting improvements he's shown over the years though. And an 85-90% Rose is still more explosive than most guards in the NBA.
  2. Not only that, but we probably won't fix possible holes that may have shown than a series with the Bulls at full strength. If we get to the ECF's and get steamrolled by the Heat, Foreman/Paxson will probably just shrug their shoulders and bring the entire team back intact.
  3. Does it really matter? Without Rose, we're not winning a championship. Doesn't matter whether we lose in the first or second round. I'd like to see them scrap and make the conference finals. I was really, really excited to watch the playoffs as a whole and this has taken the wind out of my sails. Longer the Bulls are in it the longer I'll be interested in the rest of the games. Are we the team with the best chance to beat Miami? Doubt it.
  4. Seconded I'm sick of this f**king sh*t, cruel or not, I'd like to see Miami get f**ked over a barrel in a similar manner. Seeing another team lose a star player to injury wouldn't make me an ounce happier. Seeing Wade go down would make me a bit happier.

Yes, to contrast with the city of Miami's long and illustrious history of sports triumphs. 2 World Series titles in recent times, a dominant college football program for parts of two decades, assembling one of the most talented teams in NBA history in a matter of days...not too terrible.

  7. The Bears need the help at DT. Melton, Paea, and Toeina is it on the roster (Jordan Miller from practice squad also around). If I was a betting man though, I'd say WR and OL are the most likely picks tonight. Paea and Melton should be the starters. You can get depth later on or get a DT who is cut later on. Not against taking one if he's the best player available, but this team has too many holes to lock yourself into taking one position no matter what.
  8. Why is LaHair a shorter-term player? If he turns into a pumpkin at some point in 2012, so be it. You can't get much for him in trade now anyway. If he doesn't, the Cubs have many years of club control. Probably the same as Rizzo, in fact, although I haven't double-checked. (And no need to remind me of each guy's age. It's irrelevant to the issue of years under team control.) I may be wrong, but since LaHair was signed as a minor league free agent, professional service time counts (not just major league). So he has 4 years left including this year.
  9. IIRC he's had injuries before and I know some people didn't love his mechanics. Time for some stem cells... I recall reading on MLB Trade Rumors or Hardball Talk or one of those sites that the Yankees and Ms supposedly first discussed King Felix, and that the Ms wanted all 3 of Montero, Betances, and Banuelos. Obviously the Yankees balked at that and explored Pineda instead. I bring this up because if true, the difference between the 2 offer packages would give me pause as a Yankees exec. Felix is better than Pineda, but is also older and far more expensive. So while he should cost more to acquire via trade, wouldn't you have been struck at how much more the Mariners wanted for him than for Pineda? To a degree, but you're also trading away three unknown commodities for one of the rarest commodities in the game, a legit #1 ace who already has 7 years of experience under his belt and hasn't reached the age of 27 yet. The Yankees would've extended him immediately, the cost wouldn't have been an issue. Betances has already had injuries slow down his career and is already 24, Banuelos is still just 21 years old and struggled at the AAA level last year (and so far this year) so he may need another season or two of work down there, and Montero was a catcher who couldn't catch so he's really only relegated to DH duties. I'd trade all that in a heartbeat for a guy who has averaged 240.2 IP, 2.73 ERA, 223K's, 1.13 WHIP, and a 152 ERA+ the last 3 years... and he's just now entering his prime. Yeah, I'd do that and not think twice about it Yeah, it's hard to believe the Yankees balked so hard at that. If Pineda is worth Montero, then Felix is certainly worth those three. Especially if you're the Yankees and cost isn't a factor. The Yankees also got back a pretty good prospect.
  10. Him and Rose apparently hate each other dating back to high school, so maybe it had something to do with that.
  11. He hit 7 HR's last April and had a .794 OPS. That's horrible by Pujols' standards. This month has been horrible by any standard. I wouldn't be worried yet if I were the Angels, but the lack of power is really surprising.
  12. I wonder when is too early or too late to try and conert him to the pen as an attempt to savage something out of him. I'd rather he end up a decent mildle reliever than a poor 6th starter if possible. At this rate he'll be lucky to be in baseball in 2 years.
  13. By the time the justifications are over, the Cubs heading into the offseason would have been a 30-win team. While I do trust the front office, an elite front office of a big market team should be able to put a winning team on the field and build a strong farm system. I suppose we could have signed Fielder and Darvish or Wilson and re-upped Ramirez to a deal like the Brewers gave him and still have had money for Beltran. All the while, the farm system would look pretty much like it does now assuming that we'd made the trades we did. Unless the money simply wasn't there, with the new IFA and overslot rules, I'm not quite sure what it was saved up for. We wouldn't have traded for Rizzo if we signed Fielder.
  14. Is this a preview of the newest angle of your anti-Theo shtick?
  15. Hester or some guy with a good 40 time we draft in the 4th or 5th round can stretch the field. The Bears need more receivers that can get open quickly and actually catch a pass. If Floyd is there, I think the Bears have to take him. Well the issue is a 4th rounder with a good 40 time is only going to be able to stretch the field. Getting a guy like Wright, Hill or Randle in the first, means you get a WR with pretty good potential than can ALSO stretch the field. I just think Floyd is head and shoulders above those guys. Hill strikes me as another Ashley Lelie.
  16. I'd wait to see if LA stays in the race (and AJ Ellis doesn't continue his 111 walk pace). Theo might be able to rip off Colletti at the deadline, but that certainly won't be happening with Friedman/Tampa.

  18. As a reliever last year, Bowden had a 61:18 K:BB ratio in AAA in 52 innings. He at least has to be better than Shawn Camp. Not really sure what people thought we could get for Byrd, but I'm pretty satisfied getting a young-ish guy who may be able to give the Cubs some good innings the next few years in middle relief.
  19. I'm sure Theo and Jed saved an office for him in the new office building.
  20. By the time we're a playoff team, hopefully Rizzo will be our first baseman and hitting 32+ home runs without the huge contract.
  21. Super 2 status? We already got the extra year. He pitched yesterday. And it looks like they have him on a pretty set schedule so far this year. So maybe they don't want to mess that up?
  22. I'm annoyed that the Cubs haven't signed good players to this point and want them to spend in coming seasons. And yet, I wouldn't sign Greinke.* *For the deal I expect he'll receive. The anxiety issue is huge, but on performance alone, he may be the best bet to get a relatively reasonable deal in free agency. His ERA's have been much higher than his FIP and xFIP the past few years. If he puts up another ERA near 4, I think a lot of teams would lose interest.
  23. Why is Soriano still batting cleanup over LaHair?
  24. I think Schlecht is a guy to keep an eye on. Good plate discipline already, and IIRC, he should have the ability to develop some power.
