  1. I know he mentioned him earlier in the article, but if Dempster was playing like the Dempster of last year, the Cubs would only be 10 games out....pretty much where they were last year as far as the standings go.
  2. I actually like it when players so "blame the players, not the manager" because in truth, the team would be slightly better if Z could pitch in April and early May. At least its recognizing that the players aren't powerless pawns in all of this. I don't want a player who says, "its the manager's fault." I want players who say, "We can make this better." That being said, there are plenty of others who should be examining what Dusty is doing (beesides us) and they should be axing him.
  3. What makes you think he won't get a better offer from somewhere else?
  4. Voice on Phone: "Chris I got good news, you've been selected to be a replacemenet for the all-star game..." Chris Capuano:
  5. Tell that to Joe Girardi. I don't remember Lou's WS team being chocked fill o' the veterans.
  6. A lot of that era is froma bullpen that is stellar. Of their top 4 starters, Trachsel is the youngest. Could make for a disaster in a playoff series.
  7. I saw that and was disapointed as well. This team needs to be run by a witch or something since we believe in hexes, curses, and the evil media curse. The writer wrote that part of the article as though he were kidding...at least the Trib article. I think its ok to joke around a little now that the season has been saved.
  8. Thats exactly why you do trade him. He's having the stats of his career, but is going to cool off. Trade now, while the value is high. He's way overpayed for a platoon quality player, and if there's a team out there that will give up value for him, trade him.
  9. Yesterday's game could be a good thing, if it helps the Cubs move Glendon along before next season. As for the Prior injury, DAMM YOU CHICAGO TRIBUNE FOR DISTRACTING MARK PRIOR AND MAKING HIM GET HURT!
  10. The Mets aren't a stellar ball club? You comfortable with a rotation of Pedro, Glavine, Trachsel, Duke and a rookie not Liriano or a Tiger? Maybe if it were 1996.
  11. How this season can be salvaged for me: Dusty gets canned in the next couple of days. The new coaches are Gary Varsho, manager, the hitting and pitching coaches from Iowa and Sarge is the new bench coach. I have a soft spot for Sarge. Over the next 21 days trades are made that resemble this: Walker, Rusch and Neifi to the Mets for Floyd (expiring contract) Maddux to the Brewers for a prospect Dempster and Jones to the Yankees for prospects Nevin for a prospect. (If there's a market for Floyd and Pierre, they go to) Rich Hill is named closer, Guzman takes Maddux's spot in the rotation. Lineup: Murton (the one that likes walking) Barrett Lee ARAM Floyd/Pagan Pierre Ronny TheRiot Rotation Z Prior Marmol Marshall Guzman Team plays just over .500 ball the rest of season. At least three of Marmol, Marshall, Hill and Guzman pan out enough to pencil them in the rotation. We get a good enough idea from rehab what to do with Kerry in the offseason. Pierre and Floyd both walk in the offseason.
  12. Every now and then they get a Williamson, which is why you do it.
  13. Do you mean that we should negotiate frm a strong position? Gosh darn-it that's a good idea! No way...if Jim is thinking about trading Maddux, we'd first be able to figure it out when Hendry starts slamming him in the newspapers.
  14. Explaining why he's sticking with Grudz over...Walker? Who was Grudz competing with?
  15. Weather? :sunny: Weather, whatever. Sunny if we win. KC won 11 out of 16. Another reason for hope. That another team won 11 of 16 is a reason for hope? That KC (if they haven't already) will probably pass the Cubs' soon is a reason for hope?
  16. Repeat after me: being overagressive hurts this team.
  17. You just think that because of his last three starts against the Cubs :)
  18. Just vote for Liriano, he's closer to AJ. Thats my strategy. I have to watch it, my Mets fan wife is going to make me.
  19. Soul, I agree with everything you said, but.... As long as Michael Barrett is our catcher, the Cubs won't have a catcher who can block that.
  20. Shouldn't be a problem...I think Capuano has thrown something like 17 scoreless innings in his two starts against us this year...we should have no problem losing this one. One bullpen move away from having both his career shutouts come against the Cubs in the last two months.
  21. They're going to annouce that they're firing the fans. The negative attitude of the fans has brough the team down. Some new fans will liven things right up.
  22. Lest we forget, a lot of us fell for the Cubs again last year when they swept a four game series from the Imperiled Game Fish right before the all-star break; having the amount of games below .500 they were. It went poorly after that. Fool me once, shame on, shame on you. Fooll me, won't get fooled again.
  23. How many players did Ozzie Guillen select? How many were White Sox? He had 7 picks. 4 of them, he had to use to rep every team. After that, he had 3 picks for whoever, and he took his guys. Add Maggs and its 3 of 4. Small sample size, but its not out of bounds to assume he would screw Mauer to make room for AJ given the chance.
