  1. Let's stuff Gibson on the bench while Atlanta murders us on the glass. Good job Vin.
  2. I'm also starting to get depressed by Noah's absence.
  3. Also yeah, we're not guarding anyone any more and Kirk is trash. Flip/Warrick from Tyrus/Salmons is a pretty big downgrade on defense. Warrick's nice but he really is a taller version of Salmons. He's a black hole on offense and he has the same, ugly Cloverfield beard as Salmons too.
  4. I just don't get our offensive system. Why do we run so much pick and roll with Brad and Rose? Brad isn't even a good spot up shooter (you'd think he would be but he actually sucks at it) and he certainly can't roll. You have one of the most destructive one on one players in the league and you insist that he needs a pick and roll big nearly every single time. And it's not like it's just Brad because Vinny insists on running it with Noah too. I understand all of our shooters are crap but spread the damn floor and let Rose go one on one. It's not [expletive] rocket science.
  5. Well that's great. Is Rose coming back? If Rose isn't playing I won't be able to stomach this snuff film.
  6. What happened to Deng?
  7. Bruce Campbell will certainly be the internet's favorite prospect especially now that people know he's a workout warrior.
  8. Figure of speech. If you asked me if I would trade Peavy for the packages that the White Sox gave up or for the rumored packages the Cubs were offering, I would not. You would give up a lot for potentially one year of Adrian Gonzalez, since he becomes a highest bidder free agent at the end of his remaining one year deal? I'm not as bold as you. I bet Hoyer is doing cartwheels over the payroll flexibility and good, young arms the Padres got for Peavy. As for Gonzalez, I remember someone mentioned here last year in one of the game threads in a series where Gonzalez was absolutely murdering us: "He's the left handed Pujols." I don't think it's that far off if he's in the NL Central. If you take away his home splits at Petco and the 150ish PAs against the Dodgers and Giants where he was pretty average he's arguably the best hitter in baseball. He's worth a gamble.
  9. I would be interested. You could have a very good platoon with Forte and Taylor. That article mentions Taylor is 30 but he's a "young" 30 as far as running backs go.
  10. While it would be great to land Gonzalez, the cost is simply not going to be worth it. He has 2 years left on his deal now, which means he will have 1 year left if/when Lee walks. Unless you can be assured of locking him up for the next 8 to 10 years, the talent you would have to give up to get him would be astounding. Gonzalez is dirt cheap this year and next. Anyone who trades for him will be giving up the farm. The guy who traded Peavy and everyone prior to Peavy is gone. They have new ownership and a new GM who isn't going to just dump people for the sake of dumping them. Gonzalez is cheap enough that San Diego has no reason to trade him. Besides being from San Diego and a minority in a town that would love to increase their minority ticket sales, he's a classy individual that the town clings to now that just about everyone else is gone. He is one of their last hopes to put butts in seats in an economically unfriendly climate. I wouldn't say they got rid of Peavy for nothing. The trade is looking pretty darn good right now for the Padres. I would give up a lot for Gonzalez too. He'd absolutely mash away at Wrigley and away from Petco and the NL West in general.
  11. Turner called for the pass a lot this year too you know. We were one of the most pass happy teams in the league.
  12. Yeah, Tate has a great ability to catch the ball in traffic with his arms full extended and not bobble it. He's like Steve Smith in a lot of ways. Small but stout, fast as hell, and can muscle the ball in a crowd.
  13. Yeah it looked like the US's strategy in OT was to unleash prayers from just inside the blue lines hoping for a soft rebound/goal from Luongo. Not a bad strategy considering he had a hard time controlling the puck. Still with all that open ice you'd hope for some better opportunities.
  14. Did they start putting in that effort recently? Look at the trend: Barcelona - 54 medals, 16 gold Atlanta - 50 medals, 16 gold Sydney - 59 medals, 28 gold Athens - 63 medals, 32 gold BEIJING - 100 medals, 51 gold On the other hand, the US has put up 100 medals 4 of the last 5 games and has never been below 36 golds in that span. The biggest factors in determining Olympic success is population and per capita GDP. Even in 2004 China was still in earlyish stages of becoming a 1st world nation. They probably ramped it way up for Beijing but I would expect them to be right at the top in future Olympics.
  15. Bobsled? yeah, whatever, they still beat us at everything else. [expletive] em. now when and where are the summer games and can we please [expletive] win the most gold medals at that one? [expletive] [expletive] [expletive] China's probably taking over the Summer games for the foreseeable future. They're pathological about it. Maybe. The games won't be held in China for the forseeable future either. Dictatorships are good for producing Olympians in fringe sports no one really gives a [expletive] about. And then you've got 1.3 billion people to choose from. The U.S. usually couldn't top the USSR when it came to the Olympics and now you're talking about a much, much larger country.
  16. Bobsled? yeah, whatever, they still beat us at everything else. [expletive] em. now when and where are the summer games and can we please [expletive] win the most gold medals at that one? [expletive] [expletive] [expletive] China's probably taking over the Summer games for the foreseeable future. They're pathological about it. This reminds me that the US, collectively, will never feel about a sporting event like the Canadians do about this gold or most of the rest of the world does about the World Cup.
  17. Why can't we just have sudden death with as many OTs as necessary of 5 vs. 5? I swear the big international competitions just over think it when it comes to overtime.
  18. Correction: Holliday's time was unofficial. His official 40 time was a 4.34. CJ's record is still intact. Golden Tate ran a 4.36. That ought to help his stock. He's doing a good job of managing expectations. Tate basically said he expected to run a decent 4.5 time and ended up running sub 4.4. As opposed to the 99% of guys (some of whom have concerns about their speed) who say they expect to run in the 4.4s and end up running 4.7.
  19. God Pargo is just destructive to a team when he's out there. It's not like he's some guy who just disappears on the floor. He actively ruins your chances at winning.
  20. Buh, brain fart by Noah. That would've been a huge block.
  21. How did that not go in?
  22. Freaking Kirk.
  23. BERNARD BLOWS IT
  24. Let's hope Simmons has good connections within the league because he actually predicted James and Bosh to Chicago. He's been on that kick for the last month or two afaik.
  25. I would love to see the Bears Westbrook saw where they played great defense and Forte ran hard.
