  1. James Johnson is starting to look pretty good. I'll give Pax credit for finding two serviceable, cheap rotation players for the future at 16th and 26th. He looked totally lost in the minimal time he was getting early on but his ball handling at his size really pops out on the screen. And he'll start to shoot it better too.
  2. That, and I think the older and more rare the old parks become(Wrigley and Fenway are really the last of the old ones), the more fans appreciate them. People want to experience it before it's gone or altered. This. The mythologizing of the old stadiums started in earnest in the 90s. You had Ken Burns bloviating about the Polo Grounds and Ebbets Field, the retro stadium trend, and the general decline of the truly old stadium. Of course no one remembers that the Dodgers could barely get more than a few thousand people into Ebbets near the end or that Ted Williams final game at Fenway was practically empty. You're starting to see Dodgers Stadium venerated in the way that Fenway and Wrigley are. Not nearly to the same extent but its definitely more of a selling point in their marketing.
  3. I sort of recollect the White Sox being more of a national attraction up until at least 97 and maybe 98 or so and Wrigley/Sammy becoming the stars of Chicago and the country after that. The Cubs weren't really national until then. No big stars, not competitive, etc. You had Harry Caray and WGN and that was about it. The Sox had Frank Thomas, MJ on the Barons, rappers wearing the caps, and generally being more competitive.
  4. A WVU/Mich St/Baylor/Butler Final 4 is going to be a ratings flop. Duke would help a bit. I bet ESPN is hoping for bad ratings so the NCAA will feel compelled to opt out of its contract and they can swoop in and grab the tournament.
  5. I didn't really see much of a foul on Morgan. I guess the way the guy jumped wildly in the air they were gonna call something but he got all ball.
  6. Ohhhh Jo just threw down one of the harder one handers I've seen in awhile.
  7. Huggins has got to get Mazzulla back in there.
  8. Kentucky's shooting is just lol.
  9. The relative size difference between Kentucky's jerseys and shorts is baffling.
  10. Horrible free throw shooting by K-State.
  11. Turner looked dead tired at the end there. Not sure why Matta left so many timeouts in the bag even though the worst thing about the tournament is the over coaching, excessive timeouts, and all the commercials that go along with it at the end of games.
  12. As much as you all hate KState and Frank Martin, terrible no call. The ref was looking right at it.
  13. I love that Q is destroying us down low. Has that guy even been beneath the 3 point line in 5 years?
  14. http://christophervalin.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/larry-david.jpg [expletive] HUUUUUUUUet.
  15. EJ, Kenny, and Chuck are calling the Bulls game on TNT.
  16. I'll take Tyson Alualu, DT, Cal.
  17. I stopped getting mileage out of the 1900-1910 and 1930s eras in like 2002.
  18. Would be an interesting road season for us, playing on Thanksgiving in Dallas' season, still possibly opening up the season on Sunday night to christen the Giants new stadium and then going to Toronto for a Bills game. All we need now is to get in on that international game. Too bad those teams are already picked out. I'll take boring 1 EST starts. National television games were not very kind to the Bears. If you could take out the prime time games from 2009 Cutler would've ended up looking a lot better.
  19. goony, what do the previous 60 minutes have to do with anything in terms of how fair the overtime system is? Using your logic the overtime system is completely fair no matter what it is because regulation is fair. That's inane.
  20. You like college OT? I don't hate it but it's pretty gimmicky. I think most of my problems with it would be eliminated if each team started with the ball at at least midfield or in its own territory. Starting practically in the red zone takes several elements out of the game.
  21. I liked the idea of the bid system where the team that is willing to take the ball closest to its own goal line gets first possession. Anyway, I read somewhere that the owners will vote sometime in the summer to see if this change will apply to the regular season as well.
  22. Derrick's attempted 13 3s in the last two games? wtf I haven't seen the games. Is he just taking them whenever the D is sagged off or is he actively looking for them off the dribble? Man, if he can shoot 35% or so on decent volume that would be deadly.
  23. It was one of the dumbest and most ill-advised shots I could imagine. It was worse than McConnell's banked-in three earlier today. I prefer calling it cold blooded.
  24. Kevin Harlan sucked.
