  1. Asomoah looks pretty good here. Jerry would've been a nice pick.
  2. lol, there's a better chance that bosh, lebron and wade all died in a 3-hummer pile up outside of the all-star game this year than that one of them would give a thought to moving to detroit, anyway Yeah but their strategy was flawed in that they intended to be decent by signing Gordon and Villanueva. Obviously that team wasn't going to be a real contender even if the signings went great. Better off on holding on to the space and going into true tank mode. I guess the silver lining is that they've been bad enough to legitimately hope for getting a star in the draft but now they've got cap space to overpay Rudy Gay with.
  3. Duke has 3 times the McD All-Americans Texas does most years(note numbers a total estimation and may be completely made up) UT's put much better talent into the NBA recently than Duke has. Maybe Duke gets better high school players but I don't think there's any question UT has gotten better pro prospects. Rick Barnes is a horrible in game coach.
  4. If I'm reading this correctly, the author is attempting to temper his Izzo celebratory article by saying that Michigan State only advanced to the finals of the tournament in two of the five times they reached the final four. This makes no sense to me. How is this a critical statement? That means they made the final four five times, which is an accomplishment in and of itself. I don't get it either. I'm not sure I buy that Izzo is the greatest coach in the game, but I don't see any valid way to undermine his accomplishments. Where is MSU's program without him? Very likely, nowhere. How is Krzyzewski not? Depends on whether you weigh Xs and Os more than getting the talent to the school. Nobody does less with more than Coach K Rick Barnes. Coach K did win a national title more recently than Izzo.
  5. Because it's not as much of a sham in places other than USC. That's rich. You could take away any one big time athletic program and the NCAA would still collude with conferences and universities to maximize revenues off the free labor of Division 1 football and basketball players. That's sham amateurism by any definition.
  6. How do you guys find the energy to be offended by shady ethics in sham amateur sports?
  7. Yep, half a game back now with Toronto's collapse in Miami.
  8. Noah just posterized Maxiell, badly.
  9. It's still sad to see him play. I guess he got paid though. He's been disastrous this year.
  10. Not as scintillating as Flip "Ronald" Murray's shooting right now. Or as sad as watching Ben Gordon try to play basketball :[
  11. He also has plantar tendon problems just like Noah and Gibson. He's playing with a partial tear of it actually. Deng would probably be in an iron lung with that sort of injury. It also tells me that the Bulls need better shoes.
  12. Why would you want sulley to stop? With meph gone its NSBB's signature bit.
  13. James Johnson is starting to look pretty good. I'll give Pax credit for finding two serviceable, cheap rotation players for the future at 16th and 26th. He looked totally lost in the minimal time he was getting early on but his ball handling at his size really pops out on the screen. And he'll start to shoot it better too.
  14. That, and I think the older and more rare the old parks become(Wrigley and Fenway are really the last of the old ones), the more fans appreciate them. People want to experience it before it's gone or altered. This. The mythologizing of the old stadiums started in earnest in the 90s. You had Ken Burns bloviating about the Polo Grounds and Ebbets Field, the retro stadium trend, and the general decline of the truly old stadium. Of course no one remembers that the Dodgers could barely get more than a few thousand people into Ebbets near the end or that Ted Williams final game at Fenway was practically empty. You're starting to see Dodgers Stadium venerated in the way that Fenway and Wrigley are. Not nearly to the same extent but its definitely more of a selling point in their marketing.
  15. I sort of recollect the White Sox being more of a national attraction up until at least 97 and maybe 98 or so and Wrigley/Sammy becoming the stars of Chicago and the country after that. The Cubs weren't really national until then. No big stars, not competitive, etc. You had Harry Caray and WGN and that was about it. The Sox had Frank Thomas, MJ on the Barons, rappers wearing the caps, and generally being more competitive.
  16. A WVU/Mich St/Baylor/Butler Final 4 is going to be a ratings flop. Duke would help a bit. I bet ESPN is hoping for bad ratings so the NCAA will feel compelled to opt out of its contract and they can swoop in and grab the tournament.
  17. I didn't really see much of a foul on Morgan. I guess the way the guy jumped wildly in the air they were gonna call something but he got all ball.
  18. Ohhhh Jo just threw down one of the harder one handers I've seen in awhile.
  19. Huggins has got to get Mazzulla back in there.
  20. Kentucky's shooting is just lol.
  21. The relative size difference between Kentucky's jerseys and shorts is baffling.
  22. Horrible free throw shooting by K-State.
  23. Turner looked dead tired at the end there. Not sure why Matta left so many timeouts in the bag even though the worst thing about the tournament is the over coaching, excessive timeouts, and all the commercials that go along with it at the end of games.
  24. As much as you all hate KState and Frank Martin, terrible no call. The ref was looking right at it.
