  1. First move is bringing Wood back on a 2 mill contract that's got unlimited mutual options. 2nd move is trading Cashner, Ha, and Rusin to Minnesota for Liriano. 3rd move is the biggie, signing CJ Wilson to a 6 year 110 mill deal. First year is 10, other 5 are 20. Followed by signing Cespedes to a 6 year 42 mill deal, 1st year is 4. 1B is filled by a trade for James Loney, sending Steve Clevenger and Alberto Cabrera to the Dodgers. Last move is bringing back DeRosa for one year and one mill.
  2. Just like they really wanted cliff lee last offseason and went out and got him. Based on his previous comments NY doesnt seem like his ideal place to live. True. Unfortunately though, neither does Chicago.
  3. I think Colvin's upside at this point is a 4th OFer for a small market team. I hope he proves me wrong, but I'll be shocked if he's even here by the beginning of 2013. Either traded or released possibly, depending on his option situation at that point. A Hendry type guy that Theo will give a quick chance to try and maximize his value and when that probably doesn't work, he'll be gone soon after. Even still, Quade should have played him a hell of a lot more at the end of last season.
  4. That's some pretty damning news, for the Cards, if true. Because that just ain't gonna get this one done.
  5. Same as Tim. But I'll interchange Sizemore with Cespedes. And instead of hoping for either Pujols or Fielder and one of Wilson or Darvish, I'll just say one middle of the order bat and one frontline pitcher. One through FA and one through a trade not involving Brett Jackson.
  6. Yes. He'd have been an upside guy for the rotation, fitting in anywhere from 2 to 5, depending on how he develops. And Byrd needs to be upgraded from anyway. A move like this could have started that move as well.
  7. Two impact bats and 2 impact pitchers. 2 offseasons to acquire them. And we're a legitimate World Series threat. One of each this year and we're definitely a division contender.
  8. 3 years from now, my prediction is Vitters is a starting LFer for a small market team and Lake is a super sub DeRosa like guy for us.
  9. There's no doubt in my mind that we'll be talking to both of them. In the end, it's going to be Theo's call as to whether or not he sees either of them as "must haves". If he does, then I feel very confident we'll land one of them. If not, then Theo has plan B somewhere as well.
  10. I'd be just fine with this, especially since I'd think he'd have great influence on the pitching staff.
  11. Theo has a tough choice to make with Vitters. And not a lot of time to do it. On top of that, he has very limited data on him, from how sparse our scouting system has been. We could go with a stopgap, one year solution at 3B next year, because Vitters is definitely a guy that needs a full year at AAA. But I can't really see him getting any more time than that, even with him being as young as he is. I think he's going to have to make significant progress next year in working counts for him to be given the reigns at 3B for us.
  12. If we sign or trade for a legit 3B, then I want Baker gone. Because he's not going to have a platoon opportunity at another spot. And he's not worth 2 mill as a pinch hitter, if you ask me. If we do enough this offseason to where we fashion ourselves as contenders, I'd change my stance here, but if not, then using his money elsewhere and giving LeMahieu his at bats is the better solution.
  13. Scotti, I know I agree completely that we should develop pitching and buy hitters, if it comes down to it.
  14. In the end, I think a contending team needs someone you fear in the lineup. I don't think we have that obviously. Castro COULD get there, but I really see him more as a secondary superstar. Jeter wasn't feared. AROD was. If we sign one of these guys and in the last few years of their contract, they absolutely suck, the system has to pick it up. And with the money spent on it through Theo and Ricketts, it should. Either in producing another feared guy or by having lots of cheap solid starters that you can still afford to go out and buy another one, if need be.
  15. I like Jackson a lot. But in this market, he could get a 4 or even 5 year deal from a pitching desperate team. Yes, he has frontline stuff and could wind up being a bargain on a longterm deal. The inconsistency though, keeps me from wanting to give him the longterm deal. He's just too risky, if you ask me. If he can be had for 3 years and 30 to 36 mill, then maybe he's worth looking into more. But I bet he gets 4 years and maybe 5.
  16. If McCourt's attorney's and financial advisors convince him that adding a big name player will help with ticket sales and other things like that, to where the player would not be considered a detriment, but a positive cash flow addition, they're going to be big players on these two. Kemp is actively recruiting Prince to LA as it is, so I definitely think there's some validity here, no matter the financial situation of McCourt, who isn't going to own the team by the start of next season anyway. It's just going to depend if they look at adding a guy like this as having added value to the total sale of the club.
  17. Short of dealing Castro, I truly think we can NOT even make this type of deal. Lincecun is going to command a top 10 prospect as the start to a deal, plus more. Other teams have them, we don't right now. Next year, which is probably a more likely scenario for him getting dealt anyway, we may be in different shape. But, right now, even if we offered Brett, McNutt, Szczur. And Cashner, someone would offer more from a quality vs. Quantity standpoint. Next year though, he'd be a helluve pickup, and one I could see Theo trying his damndest to acquire.
  18. With a good pitching coach, he's certainly a guy to watch. If the price isn't high, take a flyer and hope it works out. Buy low guy who could turn into a stud.
  19. In all likelihood, Wells will make 2 mill or so this upcoming season. Pretty sure Dempster will be making 15.5 as well, he deferred a little cash previously to allow us to sign someone. Also Silva's buyout is 2 mill, which we have to pay and we owe Pena 5 mill in early January as well. Of course, we have no clue whether or not these things are counted towards the 2012 payroll or not.
  20. When are the GM meetings this year? Some stuff goes down during and right after them as well.
  21. That's one reason I'm pretty high on trading for the pair. Short of trading for Wright, I don't see another option out there at 3B remotely close to what Prado could be for us. And the pair is only going to cost about 10 mill in salary next year. Which would still give us around 20 mill or so for 1B and more pitching and that's if we keep the payroll at 130. We could have more by dumping a guy like Byrd as well, especially if we go after Sizemore.
  22. Were the Cubs not even doing this?!?!?!? WTF I'm pretty sure AZPhil once said the Cubs still write everything out, while all other teams employ laptops and emails to get notes to everyone who needs them from a scout. Can't remember if this was exact, but I think it's pretty close to what I remember.
  23. Has it been disclosed yet as to whether Theo is allowed to take anyone with him from Boston, or is it still tied up in compensation talks?
