  1. Like I've been saying, it'd take a monumental package to get me to trade Garza. But, we could do it, sign a Hamels or Greinke type, trade for another front line starter and possibly have an extra solid piece or two from the Garza deal that helps us out as well. Of course, we'd also have to address hitting in order to contend, so I doubt it's likely to do all of this in one off-season. But, it is possible. It just depends quite a bit on Brett and Rizzo and where they're at in their development by the end of this season.
  2. Look, I PREFER to keep Garza at this point. But, it's certainly possible to get a major league ready starter that projects as a future 1 or 2, plus much more in return. And we would definitely have the money AND trade pieces available to add more than one bigtime pitcher as well. You could trade Garza and be the favorites in our division next year, if we want to do it that way.
  3. That's solid, but Smyly is overperforming right now. In the end, he's going to have to do quite a bit more to make me think he's not just their version of Travis Wood. He started out great too.
  4. Williams deserves a chance to start at LT. I don't know whether he'll beat out Webb or not, but he deserves a chance. I still would love to see us sign McNeill, if he's healthy enough to play. My guess is we'll spend the majority of our draft on O Line and LB next year as it is. As for Gaffney, we don't need him. Our first 4 of Marshall, Jeffery, Bennett, and Hester is the best we've had since I can remember. Jay is going to have some serious fun this season, for the first time since he's been a Bear.
  5. If Garza pitches the way he's been pitching, Turner and Castellanos is NOT enough for me to deal him. Bigtime pitching is beyond scarce and it'd make much more sense for us to extend him, if that's the best we can get. We're in the driver's seat when it comes to him, period. Either knock our socks off and MAKE us trade him, or go with what you've got. or settle for whatever else may wind up on the market, that isn't nearly as good as what Garza is.
  6. If we had drafted James Brown in the 3rd round, I doubt anyone here would truly be bitching about not drafting O Line. I wanted us to take DeCastro in the 1st myself. That said, I'm happy we added Brown, no matter how we did it.
  7. Luhnow stuck around for the entire game last night with Appel. Seeing him like that could put him back on track to being the top pick.
  8. Evidently losing Corey Graham meant a hell of a lot more to Emery than it did us.
  9. Yeah, so I'm glad this [expletive] is over.
  10. I'm sure Frey is one hell of a special teams guy. Good lord. I was hoping for Dennard, so we could see a steel cage match with him and Jeffery.
  11. I think it's different because Angelo wouldn't have moved up for a WR and I doubt that he would have drafted a niche type receiver like Rodriguez either. Angelo stuck with what he knew: Defense. And wasn't special at that either. My gut tells me I'll give our draft a C grade, maybe even a C-. But I definitely think it's different than an Angelo draft.
  12. Dickerson brought up a good point on Twitter. This is an entirely different type of draft than what we've had with Angelo. We took a 3-4 DE, instead of a prototype. We traded up for a WR, which was unheard of, and we took a character risk guy in the 4th. It's definitely a different take. Hell, it may be worse, for all we know. But, it's different at least. As much as I've disagreed with some of these picks, I'm still excited as hell to watch it play out.
  13. Hmm, I thought Wood's curve was much harder than that and considered a plus pitch. At least it makes sense as to why he's not higher up on boards.
  14. If McClellin and Jeffery both become solid starters and we get a few solid seasons out of 2 more guys, then this draft is a success. If not, it's not. The main thing this draft has proved is Emery goes off his own board and not a consensus. We'll know early on if he's right or not.
  15. Yeah, Law is high on Baez. He really likes Correa and Almora.
  16. If you think there is a decent chance Rodriguez is available in the 6th, you take someone else that probably won't be in the 4th. There's no way Rodriguez is THE missing link to this being a SB team, so if you miss on him, who really cares? Grab something else.
  17. By the way, it wouldn't shock me if Alonzo Dennard isn't on our radar at all. I forgot him and Jeffery got in a fight during the season.
  18. This was [expletive] stupid. Period.
  19. I bet Steelers want Charles. They already got DeCastro and Adams.
  20. So was Alex Brown.
  21. Not sure what it'd take, but I'd like it. I'd like to see us move up to get Charles too. Rumors say we like Ron Brooks in the 4th though and I'm OK with that too honestly
  22. Soto needs to get on track before he's dealt, no doubt about it. But, right now, it's very likely that Castillo helps us win more games than Soto does, unless he cools off. Yes, he'll have plenty of time later to prove himself, but I see nothing wrong with giving him plenty of at bats while he's up.
  23. To me, if he's remotely healthy, Marcus McNeill still makes a ton of sense for us. I'm not as down on Webb as some, but he's certainly a weak spot.
  24. Well damn, sucks for Clevenger. Hopefully he's back soon. I also hope we give Castillo the bulk of the starts while he's up.
  25. Cutler was sacked 23 times in 10 games and only 5 times in his last 5. The Bears probably think getting away from Martz' offense will help even more. I certainly have hoped we'd address the line this off-season, but if they don't, I can at least see where their thinking is coming from.
