  1. He didn't have a choice. He waived his 10/5 rights and took a NTC to 14 teams. Miami wasn't on it.
  2. He's making 2.2 mill this year and they only have to offer him 80% of that through arb. My guess is he'd take it, because he may not get that on the open market. As to why we'd do it(assuming he's healthy by then) our payroll likely will be very low anyway and if he hits, he'd be an asset of some use. But if he's healthy, you may as well try and rebuild any possible value you can.
  3. Yeah, I doubt they even give him a ton of starts in September, but if he keeps this up, he's going to get a legit shot at 3rd next year for sure. Probably to the point they don't look outside the organization for him some comp either. Just him, Valbuena, and probably Stewart. With it being Vitters job to lose, if he keeps this up.
  4. Brett is 2-3, with 2 steals, and a K.
  5. Yeah, a move that puts them right back in the middle of things is total dumbassery.
  6. Scouts had to like what they saw tonight, whether it was LaHair, Maholm, Soriano, Russell, or Marmol.
  7. Damnit. WTF movie was that from? Damn, can't believe I forgot that. At any rate, I think we've found us a legit middle of the order bat. Feels good, because it'll be easier to fill in around him and Castro now.
  8. Damnit. WTF movie was that from?
  9. I thought both teams offered 36 mill, Oakland went go 4 years, FA immediately afterwards, and we didn't get a shot to match.
  10. Brett with a K, Vitters with a single for their 1st at bats. DSL1 saw Rodriguez go 5, give up 1 hit, 2 walks, and 4 K's. ERA down to 1.16.
  11. I knew we spent more time with him than anyone, but never heard this is where he actually wanted to be. Kind of thought you were trolling for a Boy Genius comment.
  12. I don't think there's any chance we trade him for scraps. I know some here think he sucks, but he's controllable through his entire career basically. The only issue I see is a team trading for him needs a guy to platoon with him. We may actually NEED to throw in Baker or Reed to go along with him, depending on the team. Friedman mentioned there'd be teams trading from a strength to fill other needs, so part of me thinks he's talking about LaHair. Maybe we could get Alex Cobb and something else for him.
  13. Wow, Nash to the Lakers.
  14. A few hard hit balls, but he's been about what he normally is: decent.
  15. That was kind of fun. Come on LaHair, make the Dodgers give us something good.
  16. Szczur went 0-4, alcantara went 0-2, but walked twice, and Torreyes went 2-4 with a double. In other noteworthy news, Dustin Geiger hit a homer in the top of the 1st for Peoria, his 4th. It's still a tad under 100 at bats, but he was OPSing over .800 before the homer tonight. He's 20 all season long. While we probably were all kind of paying attention to him, maybe it's time to REALLY pay attention to him. He was Florida's HS player of the year when we drafted him, gave him a six figure bonus, and he's hitting well at this point.
  17. ethier goes on the DL today. The Dodgers need to be on the phone with Theo NOW.
  18. It looks like Carlos Lee is headed to the Marlins for Matt Dominguez and Rob Rasmussen.
  19. Yeah, I guess it'd work if you raised the cap somewhat. But considering their latest lockout, this is one of those things that has no chance of happening.
  20. I'd like to agree, but if you do that, the Lakers, Mavs, Knicks, and conceivably a few other major market teams would own every All Star in the league. Because you couldn't have a salary cap and legitimately make this work.
  21. This is one of those times when someone's waited all season to drop the big "I told you so ", isn't it?
  22. Candelario with an RBI single in the 1st.
