  1. Based on tweets from the guys that are left, I'd say the odds of us signing anyone else is extremely slim. If we DO get anyone else, my guess is it'd be Pannone, with a very outside chance of Bonnell.
  2. Absolutely. Plus, some major market teams need financial help as well, like the Red Sox, trying to avoid the luxury tax.
  3. Probably going to be a little bit hard for Candelario and Almora to catch up to Baez in the minors. Soler could have an issue as well obviously.
  4. Am I missing something there? What is it you like about their system so much? I honestly think Rendon's too scary to use as the major piece myself. Alex Meyer is a decent piece, but not a headliner I'd be excited about at all. Brian Goodwin is very toolsy, but it's about the least needed position in our system. I guess if I got Meyer and one of those 2, plus another decent guy or two, I'd be OK, but far from thrilled anyway.
  5. Wallach and Smit were both top 20 prospects. Dewitt was the "meat" of the deal, for Hendry. Young, former top 100 prospect, that was cheap. That being said, I'd like to point out that supposedly there are a few differences as to how our FO is run now versus back then. Seriously, worrying about the value we get for Dempster because of a Ted Liily deal a few years back under a different regime is a gigantic reach.
  6. Yeah, the nonguaranteed contract makes Korver valuable. I was thinking he'd be a part of a trade, since he's not even an expiring, but a guy a team can immediately release. Doesn't seem to be the case for now though.
  7. His walk rate in AAA this year was higher than I thought honestly. For some reason, I thought it was under 4. His 2 big league starts, he kept it under control at least. At any rate, he's a better prospect than McNutt at this point.
  8. I know I'd feel much better about our future rotation if we had sent McNutt instead of Archer to Tampa last year.
  9. I'm not so sure Alberto Cabrera isn't my top pitching prospect for us at the moment. At least until Pierce Johnson gets on the mound. Cabrera's been phenomenal out of the pen. I think he's our best hope to find a closer in house. His stuff has really played up out of the pen. Props to Toonster, who's been on him for a couple of years, saying he needed to be put in late inning situations, instead of starting.
  10. Well, he may be available, what do you think? He's24, so there's not a window he doesn't fit in for us. He may have a degenerative shoulder condition and he'll cost a TON in return. Still, this is the exact type of guy you have to go after, right? Personally, I hope they hold onto him for another year, when we'll be in better position to make a deal like this. Some teams could blow us out of the water right now, on what can be offered. That said, Arizona probably would want hitting in return, since their pitching looks to be in great shape. Is Baez, Vogelbach, Brett, and Alcantara enough? I kind of doubt it, but I'd do it and not think twice assuming the shoulders OK.
  11. Playing devil's advocate, but my guess is they figure Wil Myers is the bat.
  12. Kind of hard to do this 3 weeks before the deadline. My guess is Shark and Wood are definites. I'm not totally positive we don't keep Maholm past the deadline and pick up his option. I can see possibilities of at least one, maybe two guys, we get as returns out of trades competing for spots. I figure we'll sign one midlevel vet, no better than a Marcum and I doubt for any longer than two years. We love depth, so I'm sure we'll have another Rodrigo Lopez or two heading in as well.
  13. Candelario went 3-5 with a double tonight. Taylor Scott went 6, giving up 3 hits, a walk, and struck out 4. No runs. Great outing.
  14. Thete's a rumor from ABTY at PSD, that writes for a Royals site and has scout contacts with them, that IF they stay in contention, Moore was going to offer ONE of Odorizzi or Ventura, one of Montgomery or Dwyer, and maybe Cuthbert, if we'd send Barney too. Not totally ideal, but close enough to tweak and whatnot, in my mind.
  15. I think I reasoned it out that we had a big window and we'd get one over the next few years. I joined a different Cubs board(Cubstalk, later ITI, morphed into SOI) that offseason. It seems like quite a few of us started in on the message board deal that offseason.
  16. As far as another twosome I'd love to see for Garza, Odorizzi and Ventura would be excellent, in my mind. But as much as I love the Blue Jays system, they aren't really a fit, because all their guys are in A ball, unless they'd send us Hutchison(who's hurt) or Alvarez, who they probably like quite a bit more than I do.
  17. Yeah, I left out something there. If we only got 3 of those 4 from the Cards, it's likely we'll see a comparable package elsewhere. I like Wong a lot, but he's not a real need guy for us. Martinez is rated by most higher than I'd have him. I like Jenkins quite a bit, but he's far enough away that he's a lottery ticket obviously. Rosenthal, I like, but the upside makes him a very "meh" 2nd piece, or solid 3rd piece. Which is why I'd want all 4 from them. Even though I know that's at least an extra top 150ish guy than we'd be getting from anyone else.
  18. Miller is scary to me right now anyway. I don't want to deal with them unless it's a massive overpay, since they're our rival and all anyway. If they gave us Martinez, Wong, Jenkins, and Rosenthal, then I jump for joy. But, I think we can get a group of 3 from others that's very comparable.
  19. In dealing Garza, what about Rubby as the top piece from the Dodgers? Too risky? I think he's probably got the single highest upside of any of the guys we'll go through, but obviously, he's coming off of TJS. But he'll pitch at some point this year, so I've got no clue how it'd work. But I think my two favorite pitching-led packages would be Delgado and Teheran and Rubby with either Eovaldi or Lee. Again, lots of risk, but if you had an Eovaldi paired with him, I think it'd be worth it. That said, the Dodgers would probably object.
  20. True. Makes sense. I kind of think Raley could surprise, but anything's better than trotting out Coleman. Hell, I'd say Volstad as well, but at least understand why the FO may want to give him more chances.
  21. Another very impressive one too.
  22. I'm not all THAT high on him, but yeah, I agree with the idea. May as well get Rusin a few starts as well. If Maholm is traded, slot one in his place and give the other a few starts for Wood, if we need to manage his innings a bit.
