  1. Very interesting note that I'm trying to get Badler to confirm: Mexican born players only receive a portion(likely 25%) of a signing bonus. The rest goes to their Mexican League team. If this is the case, it leaves room for all sorts of shenanigans to be used. Especially since only the amount that the player receives counts against the cap.
  2. So the Hawks, Rockets, Lakers, and Mavs, along with the Nets are talking Dwight. [expletive] GarPax and their cautious ass approach.
  3. Wait until 2014. they better be laying that foundation NOW. The Heat crap started a few years before it happened. If we're going to try, we better have a ringleader out there recruiting. Too bad Rose is a damn mute.
  4. Eh, 2-3 years? Can't really remember, Hendry used to talk about it like it was important.
  5. I'm confident they will, but I really hope he gets a full year of AAA, then maybe 20 games or so in the majors, in September.
  6. Put Starling Marte as the top piece, with Heredia 2nd, and it's in line from a value standpoint. Marte is a top 50ish guy who's pretty ready for the majors. Heredia is a great prospect, but eons away. He can't headline a Garza deal. McPherson and Sanchez make solid 3rd and 4th pieces. My only problem is the headliner for Garza, hopefully the second piece as well, both need to be pitchers. I'm hoping he looks great against Atlanta this week. I'd love a Delgado/Teheran package and think it's borderline realistic, since Teheran's lost some luster this year.
  7. I think we'll be fine with what we get for Garza and I kind of have it in my head for some reason, he's getting dealt before the ASB. No reason, just think we may find a fringe contender ready to trade, energize the team and fanbase, blah, blah, blah. OTOH, I have it in the back of my head that Demp is sitting out on purpose and won't be healthy until early August
  8. Lack of pitching in the minors, Kyle. Then, when that's addressed by trades in a few weeks, you can worry about Rizzo winning too many games for us in a meaningless season. Because I'm alrwady heading there as it is.
  9. Nah, the ways to get over the cap are trading, where contracts have to match up to a certain point. I think it's 90%. Resigning your own FA can put you over as well. In the past, you could use the MLE to go over more, every other year, but I think that's been done away with under the new CBA. Where the [expletive] you money would come in handy, is if he owned OKC. He could keep Durant, Westbrook, Ibaka, and Harden, not caring how far over the luxury tax threshold he went. Because it gets very costly, very quickly, if you go over.
  10. Honestly, it is what it is. He's got the ability and he's learning. I'm glad it's happening in a throw away year. He'll be better for it going forward.
  11. I know Twitter has really changed things, but I'm so glad to see updates mentioning our prospects doing well, instead of the damn score. Even recently, you'd hear us mention how the team's records were great and it was a sign of good things to come. With no mention that we were fielding teams of 24 year olds in A ball.
  12. Yeah, LaHair looks awful right now and I'm a supporter of his. Shark has looked great though.
  13. WTF? Maybe to give Szczur a spot? Obviously different positions, so I'm reaching here.....
  14. I'm watching the Braves telecast and they gave Starlin some [expletive], but then showed how far off the bag Rizzo was, to basically excuse him. They didn't even do that on the Chicago telecast?
  15. I thought Broussard said it is not contingent on Williams resigning.
  16. Jordan Williams, Johan Petro, Jordan Farmar, Deshawn Stevenson, and Anthony Morrow.
  17. Joey Gallo has started his professional career of 9-26. In side the 9 hits, are 2 doubles, a triple, and 4 home runs. He has struck out 9 times as well. Oh, and he has FIFTEEN walks.
  18. I'd send over SOMETHING along with Noah and Deng, but it'd be generic. Mirotic is probably coming over in 2014 and he's a major reason why I'm on board with this scenario playing out. No way would I part with him in a Howard deal, unless the extension was signed sealed and delivered as well. The Charlotte pick? Really don't want to give it up either, although I actually wonder what happens to that pick if Charlotte folds between now and when we could receive it?
  19. Welcome! Personally, I want the top pick, because of the flexibility it provides. If a definitive player emerges, you get him. If not, you can do what Houston did and get a top talent, plus extra, by aggreeing to an underslot deal with someone. Of course, this strategy works no matter where you're picking honestly, but it gives you the most money to play with, if you've got the biggest allotment obviously. It's still way too early to tell about this class, either way. At this time 2 years ago, Dylan Bundy was getting mocked as low as 15 or so. Bauer was in the same boat. Plenty of time for players to emerge as the clear cut overall top pick. Much like you, I'm hoping it's a pitcher. And if we play the kids next year and get a top 3-5 pick again, I'm hoping like hell for Carlos Rodon.
  20. If Orlando would take Deng and Noah for Dwight, I'd do it, extension be damned. It gives you a better chance this year, if Rose comes back and plays. It gives you a year to convince him he likes it here. If he leaves, you've cleared Noah and Deng off your books, can amnesty Boozer at any point, and have plenty of money for 2014.
  21. Raisin, who was Jose Castillo, LHP out of Venezuela, linked to?
  22. The way Goldstein made it sound earlier, most of these agreements have been in place for months. I'd love to learn more as to how this all works. I know teams view players dramatically different, at this age and a team may see a million dollar bonus in the same guy another team offers 50k to. But, I can't help but think teams with the better facilities atract these kids and win them over somewhat with the trust factor. Adding our Dominican Academy really seems like it could help us bigtime, if it gets done in time for next year's signing period. After that, with a draft looming, all bets are off. Although I still think having guys constantly working out in your facilities has to be an advantage and gives you a gigantic scouting edge, assuming your not letting other teams in very often to see them.
  23. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/2012/07/cubs-sign-no-19-international-prospect-frandy-de-la-rosa/ Badler's link confirms De La Rosa signing. FWIW, he's number 10 from MLB.com's IFA preview.
  24. The Yanks are done though, for the most part. they've signed a 1.3, an 800k, and a 650k already.
