  1. Dodgers want a lefty reliever too, Russell's got to be the best guy available. We really match up great with them.
  2. Yeah, he is for now. But a year from now, who knows? It may(hopefully) be one of the reasons we're stagnant for the most part.
  3. Yeah, he did. But I think something's already come out about him being unhappy.
  4. I wonder how much Theo is actually involved in that? Is it like a "Co-GM" situation? Or do they just meet about things and then Theo lets Jed actually do the trade haggling? Does Jed have to run a big trade through Theo first? Just curious about the logistics. Based on an interview I saw/read earlier this season with Jed Hoyer, he stated that they basically split the duties based upon which one has a better relationship with the GM they are dealing with. It also sounded like they try to build a consensus on decisions. I think it is safe to assume that Theo has final say. So we all agree that Jed will do the initial haggling and then Theo will finalize the deal. Kind of like a car salesman and the boss. So, no coffee for Jed? Coffee is for closers.
  5. Lots of unknowns, but if Rose comes back midseason and we have a good year health-wise, what are we/ A 50ish win team? Maybe have 1st round HCA. I think I'd want a pick for Korver, over a return of players.
  6. As a guy who's never lived in the midwest, I see the point about FA going elsewhere. However, Chicago is the 3rd biggest market in the country and I can't see everyone always staying away, just because it's in the middle of the country, cold, etc. That said, there's probably going to have to be a definitive change in Rose, to where he's reaching out to these guys, instead of staying silent. Will he do that? No clue. If it's not the FA route, we've got to find a way to get a Kevin Love thru trade. KC says he's heard it's likely Korver is getting dealt to Minnesota.
  7. I'm to the point that I'll be very surprised to see Soriano moved before the offseason. He's the best protection we've got for Rizzo and that outweighs moving him for scraps right now.
  8. So, the possibility of having Asik at 15 mill the final year of that deal, instead of the possibility of landing a max conteact type guy in FA, doesn't piss you off? It's a bad idea, no matter how you try to spin it.
  9. You and cubbievirus both. You guys should hang out with Rosenbloom. http://www.chicagotribune.com/videogallery/71005562/Sports/Rosenbloom-Bulls-don-t-know-what-they-re-doing Wait, you think THAT's a good move? Go re-read what I've said in this thread. Taj is much more important to this team than Asik and having the 3rd year, backloaded as hell on our books for 2014 makes zero sense at all. Seriously, if you think Asik on THAT contract makes sense, you haven't thought very hard at all.
  10. Vitters definitely needs the full season in AAA. He's showing solid improvement and he's struggled with each midseason promotion, as it is. Reward him in September, if anything, but give him all year to kepp working on things.
  11. That would piss me off.
  12. I read somewhere they all work on everything, so they still get time for their families. They've worked together enough they're on the same page, but I'd guess in the end, Theo has the final call obviously.
  13. Don't confuse Ned, tell him he's a good fit for Dempster.
  14. You don't know that teams are willing to pay a premium. davell, I don't like to make guarantees, but I guarantee we will not be trading 8 guys off our major league roster in the next 3 weeks. Yeah, you're probably right to make it. The returns on Garza and Dempster could affect our immediate team, but I doubt we receive anything from the other guys that will. Dempster, Garza, Russell, and DeJesus would have to be dealt by July 31st. My guess is Soto, Maholm, Camp, and especially Marmol, could all be August deals, if dealt.
  15. At this point, we might as well wait 3 weeks to see what we look like before going through this again. I kind of figure we'll deal Dempster, Garza, Maholm, DeJesus, Soto, Camp, and Russell. Marmol too, if someone absorbs his contract. I can see us adding a couple of guys that slot into the rotation, but probably nothing else that figures in as a starter for us. Unless Kalish comes over in a Garza deal. At any rate, I don't see us adding anything that costs us a draft pick yet, as trivial as losing a 2nd rounder sounds. Upton has a sub .700 OPS right now, so he's possibly looking obtainable as a buy low guy. Adding some salary in a trade seems plausible, either a SP or an OFer. I could see Liriano or maybe Marcum as far as SP. Maybe Kelly Johnson at 2B, depending on what we do with Barney. But the 90 mill figure sounds about right to me. Hopefully, they're able to roll some cash over from year to year, so when the time comes and we need 160 mill, it won't be an issue.
  16. It's Levine, but he said in his chat today he expects the Cubs payroll to be around 90 mill next year.
  17. Odorizzi and Ventura are both damn good pitching prospects. Montgomery's lost some luster, but he's still a decent prospect as well. Plus, they have some high upside types in A ball, like Bryan Brickhouse and Kyle Smith. Not that I see them adding at this point, but they fit us very well.
  18. Yeah, it certainly doesn't sound like he'd want to be here. But, things could change once he was here. Honestly, the biggest negative to this scenario is if he left, while you'd be rid of Deng and Noah, you'd have nothing to show for them, unlrss you got Dwight to do a S&T on his exit. And still, it'd be less than what they'd bring, if dealt seaparately most likely. But, it's obviously conjecture, since Orlando may not like Deng and Noah anyway.
  19. Quite a few early terminations, but assuming they want to hit FA, the list includes Wade, Kobe, Lebron, Melo, Gay, Dirk, Granger, Bosh, Amare, Gasol, and Bogut. There's a full list on Hoopsworld, but I can't link right now.
  20. Yeah, I know. I would be willing to take him, probably gives you a better shot this season, if Rose comes back, then take my chances he stays. Worst case scenario is he leaves and you're probably not much more than a .500ish team for a year, then it's 2014 anyway. And you've got the same situation, minus the option of keeping or trading Noah.
  21. Supposedly up to 10 teams will be there to see Dempster on Saturday. Dodgers, Indians, and Braves have been the most agressive so far. Looking for power arms and/or a 3B.
  22. I'm impatient and think going after Dwight, with Deng and Noah, is something I wanted to see. That said, there's no way to know whether we did or not. Orlando may not like them, for all we know. We're in a weird spot right now. If Rose gets healthy, we're very good, but not the best, unless some unforeseen stuff goes on. At any rate, if the Dwight deal can't happen, we're not in a rush, nor do we need to be. Deng's contract will be up, we can amnesty Boozer and we can keep or trade Noah by the time 2014 comes around. I don't expect a title before then anyway, so I just want to be in good position for then. We could easily go into that offseason with Rose, Mirotic, the Charlotte pick possibly getting used in that draft, and maybe more picks for Noah. I'm more than OK with that type of scenario, the more I've thought about all this.
  23. I think we're done. Don't see anyone left that takes what little we've got left.
  24. Wait the Yankees have the most championships by far in MLB history. Hell, even recent history, they've won what 5 since the Jeter era? October has been wonderful for the Yankees since forever. without looking closely, I think 4 of those happened before they tried having an AS at every position. Since the big spending era, they've got one. That said, SSR beought up the best case for the opposite approach and it didn't work either. [expletive] it, I just want one, how it's constructed won't matter at all to me.
  25. I'm not opposed to that kind of team, but colder weather and better pitching in October hasn't exactly been kind to the Yankees all that often.
