  1. Hit a couple batters in the 6th, gives up 2 more, trails 9-1. Over 100 pitches.
  2. I just figured this needed to be bumped. He was fairly decent on Opening Day.
  3. Anraku just gave up 7 runs in the 5th and trails 7-1. And yes, they've still got him in.
  4. He was 80-84 in the 1st.
  5. Astros broadcaster: "That'll force him to learn some of the language here in America"
  6. Yeah, Sweeney is decent. I figured he'd catch on somewhere. Bogusevic and him are sadly much, much better at OF than Lillibridge, Gonzalez, or Maysonet are at IF.
  7. Toonster, all I meant is I'm an unabashed Torreyes guy and you're higher on Marco than I am. Not exactly an epic feud, since we agree on most everything else.
  8. Him and Bruno are both intriguing. Law didn't appear to be a fan of Saunders, based on a " well, he's scrappy" type comment I saw. He's got 15-20 homer type pop, doesn't he?
  9. Toonster, we're going to feud on Torreyes and Marco until one or both have bombed out lol.
  10. Josh Conway throwing 92-94 evidently and almost made KC's rotation. Thats great news. Toonster: Cutting Torreyes? Really? Maybe he's working on his D or whatever, but cutting a 20 year old that has had success in High A+ ball is just an odd comment to make. The fact he showed up to ST very late probably isvplaying into this decision, as someone on TCR pointed out.
  11. Oops, sorry about that guys. Well, now the Bengals have to reach a,bit. Watson or Elam? Not sure why Andre Smith is still unsigned, but my guess is they eventually find a way to keep him. If not, I guess the Dolphins could wind up with him. So, I'll go with SS Matt Elam here and hope to get a LB and O-Line depth later on.
  12. Bengals take Ogletree, would have taken Brown, if he had lasted.
  13. I think I'd take Fluker here. Patterson falling to us is a nice get though.
  14. I think I saw a blurb saying Gonsalves has been topping out at 88, sitting around 85. If so, college certainly seems his best option.
  15. While his final pitch was 94, he was mostly working in the mid-80s. And guys like Nomo, Matsuzaka and Darvish probably had similarly taxing work loads when they were pitching in HS tourneys (maybe not as bad but multiple high pitch CGs on short rest is common in these tourneys). He's pitching again, 0 days rest. Topping out mid-80's. God forbid they win. The finals are the following day.
  16. With Wittenmyers' article today and Mooney referencing some stuff in different articles for about a week, it really does appear as if we're capped payroll-wise until the renovations are done. Theos' comments today made it sound like they needed to get their [expletive] straight to coincide with when they'll need money.
  17. Yeah, that makes no sense to me. Although AZPhil didn't see an injury, it's entirely possible that Torreyes has a minor one. Really the only thing I can think of as to why he's still in EXST. Disappointed that Pierce Johnson is only starting at KC. He'll be 22 in May, had no problems in his tiny cup of coffee at Boise, and threw 100 IP in college last year. With Johnson, they're mirroring the approach the Red Sox just took with Matt Barnes. He pitched 5 games in Low A last year, was completely dominant, and spent the rest of the year in A+. Finished with 120 innings and supposedly will be let loose this year. I figure thats the plan with Johnson too.
  18. What kind of perceived value does he have? He's a closer thats struggled bigtime in ST and isn't allowed to shake off his catcher. If anyone wanted him, he'd be gone already. And the trade he was involved in, the guy he was getting traded for, had his option declined. So, in a way, we were only getting a guy the Angels didn't plan on keeping. So nothing. With his wildness, I think a DFA is just as likely as getting anything that even fits inside our top 30 prospect lists. Might as well throw him though, see if he can shake it off. I just wouldn't do it in the closers role.
  19. Damn, what the hell with Torreyes? Working on D maybe? From all prior accounts, he's a great makeup guy, so this is odd.
  20. I'm going to go ahead as nd say I want no part of Tomohiro Anraku becoming a Cub. He's a super-talented 16 year old Japanese SP. However, last Tuesday, he was allowed to throw 232 pitches in a 13 inning complete game. On 3 days rest, he threw a 159 pitch complete game. And now, on ONE day rest, he threw a 139 pitch complete game, with his final pitch at 94MPH. I think Dusty even threw up a bit.....
  21. Throwing in the mid 80s will do that to a guy. That said, I thought if you were added to the 40 man, you had to stick on it for a period of time. I know Rusin did, maybe it was based on when he was added though......
  22. Because evidently you think Starlin Castro is better at baseball than Bryce Harper? Position scarcity be damned here. Its not taking away anyones lifelong Cub fan card to admit that Harper is the better player.
  23. Wait, is he a pitcher? Oh, he is. Then no.
  24. Is that real? I thought it was just an April Fools thing.
  25. MR, I'm not being dense about anything. Again, unless you're sitting in on the instruction both Harper and Castro have had over their careers, you're not remotely qualified to say how much of an advantage Harper had in that department. Fair or not, Castros' baseball instruction didn't begin at age 16 either. I'm not familiar with his personal path to getting signed by the Cubs, but most Dominican kids spend plenty of time in baseball academies for years before being eligible to sign. And no, I'm not saying its perfect instruction. In fact, plenty of these kids are trained for showcases instead of for actual games. But we don't KNOW what Starlins' instruction was down there. Just as we don't KNOW Harpers' from an early age either. The facts we do have though are that Starlin is now entering his 7th season of professional coaching and he's 23 years old. Harper is 20 and is entering his 4th season of professional coaching. If you're entire argument is"well, Hendry sucked", thats fine. It just means you think Castro is in line for a much different developmental curve than most everyone else. Possible, I suppose.
