  1. But, should we be pissed at Zell or Ricketts? Ricketts is the one who was naive enough to go through with it, right? When evidently no one else was. In a way, its kind of like people being pissed at Sori for taking 136 mill when it was us that gave it to him. To me, if Zell pulled a fast one, its on Ricketts for allowing it to happen. Especially since Zell had no interesr in keeping the Cubs for any length of time under any circumstance.
  2. Isn't the first year just upgrading player facilities? If so, I don't see how that makes the Cubs more money. And yeah, I know they said that, I'm basing the 2016 thing off the latest thing you posted, which made it sound(I coukd be misinterpreting) that the debt structure crap would keep us from spending until revenue was actually coming in, not that it WOULD be coming in.
  3. I'm beginning to think we might see it drop even further in 2014. If it does, I figure it'd be very incremental. How much less will our revenue be from last year to this one? I doubt it changes much personally. And if it did, I think we'd see Theo backload a few deals to where we weren't missing out on whoever we were targeting anyway.
  4. They better be pretty far along on a new TV deal, in my opinion. If I'm betting, the red tape will keep the renovations from starting this offseason. Plus, the first year of tge renovations aren't revenue builders anywsy, unless I'm missing something. To me, its starting to look like our payroll could be stagnant until 2016. I hope I'm wrong.
  5. Well, I gotta admit, I was thinking about Rock's early season start as well. My revelation though, was to ask if we feel comfortable putting him near the back of our top 30 lists yet? FWIW, in the Midwestern Leauge, he's 3rd in OPS, 2nd in SLG, 10 in OBP, 5 in BA, 2 in HR(3 way tie) and 9 in RBI. He's one of only 3 guys in the MWL in the top 10 in BA, SLG, OBP, and OPS and one of only 2 guys in the top 10 in all of those plus HR. The other; some guy named Byron Buxton. To all of that: So what? He's 21, even now has a higher K rate than you'd like to see from a 21 year old in A ball and at BEST profiles as an average defensive 1B, so the bat had better be bigtime. Seriously, its a nice start for him, but he's got an extremely long way to go for consideration into top 100 lists.

  7. Smith is small, pitches around 90, just is very polished. His upside isn't very intriguing. If Lamb regains his velo, he's very interesting.
  8. I mean, we got Johnson at 41 last year. He was definitely a top 10 guy in our system heading into the year. Other guys that went after 34 were Joey Gallo, Lance McCullers, Matt Smoral, Walker Weickel, and Carson Kelly. All of whom were considered top 10-15 talents by quite a few. Even if the draft is weaker, there's still going to be top end types that fall. Getting ahead of Houston is a really good idea, especially with the Yanks and a few other teams having multiple picks ahead of us that can maneuver things to pick off a big name that dropped as well. Bottom line for me is I think a guy that fits inside our top 10 is very solid value for DeJesus, which I see pick 34 bringing us.
  9. KC has a very young, but very solid system. Obviously, they wouldn't offer Kyle Zimmer, Bubba Starling, Yordano Ventura, or Adalberto Mondesi for DeJesus. Seriously doubt they'd offer Miguel Almonte either. Are guys like Cheslor Cuthbert, Kyle Smith, Jorge Bonifacio, Jason Adam, or John Lamb better than the 34 pick possibilities? Each could be under consideration for our top 10, but I'm not thinking I'd take them(unless I could get 2) over the pick. We want and need impact types. To me, there's a better chance of finding it at 34 than from a guy that likely is around the same talent level as Christian Villanueva. Nice prospect, but isn't likely to ever break out to where he's got a ton of value at any point.
  10. I don't think he will but if he falls a little, there comes a point (say around 1.15?) where teams no longer can afford what he'll ask for with his Texas A&M football commitment. At that point, he just might free fall. I really want a comp pick to jump ahead of them. Someone will drop that makes it worthwhile to move ahead of Houston.
  11. I have not and will not veer away from Appel/Gray or Gray/Appel. I think Bryant, Moran, Frazier, and Meadows are all solid in different ways, but none scream out as "gotta have" to me. Perfect world-take the stud position player over the stud pitcher. To me, we're lucky we've got a choice of two stud pitchers, I just don't see the stud hitter.
  12. With as hard as everyone else has busted their asses this year, I find it extremely hard to believe they're not just being politically correct in commenting on him.

  14. My guy is Torreyes, so I can't say much. I gotta go Javy. If he makes it we have a star SS. Plus Starlin Castro. Pretty unreal. Javy's easily my 2nd, easy guy to see making a huge impact. Honestly, if we find a way to get Price, I hope Almora is the lead piece.
  15. 34th pick likely has a slot value of 1.5ish or so. It could push us past Houston, if they set themselves up to add a top 10-15ish type talent that drops due to signability. If that "unsignable guy" doesn't drop, is adding a Pierce Johnson type-talent enough for DeJesus? I tend to think its fair myself, but I'd love to get more.
  16. My guy is Torreyes, so I can't say much.
  17. Do you want the guy with two plus pitches and an average third or the guy with a plus pitch and two above average ones? This is kind of the true debate between Gray and Appel, isn't it?
  18. Law sticks to his guns, Vogelbach will be on more than he's not though.
  19. There's no way Stewart falls like that, right? Personally, I still don't know which of Gray or Appel I'd prefer.
  20. I'll go with Pierce, with Szczur second.
  21. I'm forgetting, but what kind of injury did Trey Martin sustain and how long is he out? Dunston appears to be pouting a bit on Twitter, maybe about getting passed up for a promotion.
  22. If How early can you trade Feldman or Villanueva? Is it late May?
  23. What if Garza were ready to come back right now? Who do you take out of the rotation?
  24. His first start included some questionable defense too. He didn't pitch nearly as bad as his line indicated.
