  1. Maybe its semantics, to keep the Cubs from getting in the red? Doubtful, in my opinion. If we don't get him, it'll suck, but I'm very happy with what we've done so far, and it'd leave us money to go get more. Whatever.
  2. I'm happy to get Jimenez obviously. But trading for money, if we knew we were going over anyway is a stupid allocation of resources. So hopefully we've got more deals to announce. If not, I hope thry do this up right and spend another 2-3 mill, at least. Raisin, Craig(anyone else)-you guys know if our allocation next year is tradeable, if we go over this year? I'm guessing yes, but don't know for sure......We could take the exact opposite approach next year, sell it off for players or prospects, which would also be interesting.
  3. What would possibly make you think this based on the last few years? I'm just basing it on we ARE a large market team that has a lower payroll than usual. Don't get me wrong, Ricketts has NOT shown he's able to. But I just can't imagine Theo came here unless he knew we could, when we needed to.
  4. That's a horrible [expletive] return. I'd rather make the qualifying offer and try to sign him. I think you need to prepare for the worst then. I'll be happy if we get that much honestly.
  5. With Torreyes getting dealt, Alcantara playing 2B, and constant rainouts not helping Javy get at bats, I'm predicting a Javy callup within a week.
  6. Sweet. [expletive] you Texas, or whoever else it was.
  7. Yeah, this has dampened my expectations somewhat. Obviously, we'll get more than the same value as a comp pick, but Im not sure how much more than that. Are we going to play chicken right up to the deadline and hope he pitches well AND no one better than him shows up on the block? Personally, I hope not. I think I'd deal him before the ASB, if we get a top 100 type prospect and another guy that fits in or near our top 10. If we aren't getting something close to that, then I guess I'd wait it out. Still wonder what he's looking for in an extension, although that seems like its passed.
  8. Well, today raises a few questions. One, will we hold on to Garza until the last minute? Two, does this make Villanueva more likely to be dealt, now that he's headed to the rotation again? And three, chances of anything else happening before the break?
  9. Twins just signed Lewin Diaz for 1.4, they'd have to spend the rest of their budget to get Jimenez.
  10. Ooh, Hrubes is right. Cleveland just spent 1.5 mill as well. Texas and Twins would seem to be the competition on Jimenez, at this point.
  11. The Rangers have already gone 2.5 mill over their amount. So they're paying 75% on that, plus anything else they do. If they paid Jimenez 2.5, they're basically spending 11mill for a 7 mill talent haul. With no ability to buy big next year. Worth it? I think so. Even if its not them, the Twins have been tied to Jimenez as well, have a budget of almost 4 mill and have yet to spend of it. The Indians also have done nothing and have over 3.5 to throw around.
  12. My honest guess is he'll be 50,000 or under. I've seen bonuses as low as 30,000 get reported today, with plenty of 100k types being mentioned.
  13. Yeah, I think Jimenez could be going elsewhere, unless we've got another deal for more money up our sleeves. We can still acquire over a mill more, if we want to.
  14. Mejia signed a 2013 contract. So he'll be playing somewhere soon.
  15. Obviously, the FO likes Jimenez a ton, I would think they have alternative plans though, if he goes elsewhere. Plenty of top names left to spread it around on.
  16. Did I miss something? Is there something linking the Rangers to him at this point or is it just the "they're already paying penalties, might as well go all in" thing?
  17. While true, its also entirely plausible that that kid hasn't emerged yet either. A full year of development in a kid that may actually be 14 right now, could be gigantic.
  18. Maybe he's Volstad. I'm not an Arrieta fan, but its not like chose Volstad out of 29 other teams offers. They literally took the only option they had to move Z.
  19. As soon as Law reported Feldman deal, Cotillo reported that HIS source told him of trade. Said he was on phone gathering the info and didn't see Law's tweet. Imagine that.
  20. Maybe we're so strapped for cash and poor now that we had to save money in the deal in order to actually pay for all these IFAs we are signing. Ricketts=McCourt basically? With the forethought to at least have a competent FO.
  21. Yeah, even if I can rationalize the Feldman and Torreyes deals, I've got nothing for sending the Dodgers IFA money in a Marmol/Guerrier swap. I couldn't give two shits about saving payroll, when our payroll is already squarely in the middle of the pack.
  22. I wasn't happy with the Feldman return. Have no idea why we didn't just cut Marmol instead of giving up a small IFA piece. But I HATE giving up Torreyes for a relatively small amount of IFA space. Hell, even after these moves I'm not sure we have enough IFA money left to get Jimenez and Moreno without still paying the damn penalty next year. The only potential bright spot I see is it opens 2B up for Alcantara and SS for Baez at Tennessee. But they could have figured that out without dealing Torreyes. [expletive].
  23. I'm underwhelmed honestly. We're only getting 388100 in IFA money, so thats not even going to give us enough to get Jimenez and Moreno, without making another trade. I get that Arrieta is a change of scenery type. I also know there are rumors that the Pads really like him. So maybe this isn't even a finished deal. Hell, I'll even admit that I've been waiting for Feldman to start sucking. Even still, I was expecting something else, as a return.
  24. The O's only have 1.259400 in tradeable IFA money. Their slots are 520100, 351200, 237200, and 150900.
  25. haha what did we miss? Lets just say he's not an Arrieta fan.
