  1. Cafardo mentioned us with Hamels today, along with the Red Sox, Dodgers, and others. I'd usually just assume lazy reporting, but Cafardo is pretty good and seems to know as much or more going on with us as our own beat guys. So who knows?
  2. Yeah, hang around. I know I'd rather talk baseball with other teams fans than be a part of a board like that. Hard to believe there's not a quality Dodger board out there. Pretty amazing, really. I hate seeing a guy like Friedman having access to unlimited funds. It's sickening, you guys were doing just fine letting Ned spend tons of money on excess middle infielders and bullpen arms. I think Friedman should be obligated to do the same, because its not fair having hands off ownership, unlimited funds and a smart FO.
  3. I think our rollover money went to Lester's signing bonus, to keep his yearly salary down somewhat. Which is disheartening, as I think it really puts into question if we truly have the ability to get Moncada, if he lasts long enough.
  4. He probably needs to stop listening to his father instead of his coaches. Hasn't that been his problem throughout his career? Yeah, his father was one of the group making it hard for him. And to Sneaky-he does K a bunch, but he didn't early on. No clue if that's fixable or not.
  5. Rasmus had an interview a few months ago talking about how it's not fun right now and how many people were pulling him in different directions and stuff like that. He seems like the perfect fit for a guy like Maddon to me.
  6. Arguello posted the question of how would you fill out the roster if you had 10 mill left to spend: which is a decent question. I'd add Rasmus at 1/10 and Anderson at 1/6. Trade Wood for prospects and be done with it, unless I could trade Vogelbach, Johnson, and Almora for a Sonny Gray type of pitcher.
  7. He's hardly been mentioned in rumors so far this offseason, but Colby Rasmus makes a lot of sense for us at this point.
  8. In retrospect, that was one expensive ass fist pump.
  9. I'm sure this sounds like a silly question, but I'll ask it anyway....Hoping Kyle or IMB give me a legit answer. What is the true importance of being first to report something? When the Cubs announce something, there's always a flurry of guys tweeting it and it seems like in many cases whoever types the fastest gets credit for it. Is there a pay bump for breaking things? I doubt it, so I'm wondering why there's so much commotion when it comes to these things.
  10. I can see Anderson on a one year deal because there is upside there. I can see non elite prospects/vets that have value thrown in together to add a guy. Even a rental. But there's no doubt in my mind they're looking at next year and figuring they'll get better value out of the SP market than this one. Cueto Greinke(likely) Porcello Price Samardzija Zimmermann 2nd Tier Fister Gallardo Norris Leake Latos Iwakuma Kennedy Lincecum Old Bastards Buehrle Lackey Lohse Too much out there next year. Money is a concern for us for a little bit longer, we'll get a better buy on one of that top tier next year than spending 100 mill on Shields now.
  11. Unreal. Just pure [expletive] awesomeness.
  12. This is like a B2B trade without a 3rd team. I'm trying to come up with what spare parts we have. How much value does Valbuena have? I get that he's not Upton obviously. But the extra control with him and Wood? Does it hold value? Do they want major leaguers to begin with? They've said this offseason they're not going to rebuild. They don't need Vogelbach. I personally value Almora more than McKinney, but would understand why some here don't. With the prospects that have been dealt for one year rentals so far this offseason, I honestly doubt we'd include Almora(assuming we value him as high as I think we still do). If they truly think Upton is worth more than Heyward, that offer gets laughed at admittedly. But if they are trying to stay competitive, it could fill holes with relatively solid guys for them. If they'd do it with a McKinney/Vogelbach/PJ type prospect included, I'd be fine with it. But I don't see one year of Upton at 14.5 mill having much excess value myself. And if Law is right that Valbuena can net a decent young pitcher or solid pitching prospect on his own-I could see it being a possibility.
  13. I don't personally see what's wrong with the article. If we don't add much else, our payroll stays in the same range it's been at. Helped by having lots of controllable, cheap guys and Soriano's money coming off the books. It's a longer term deal than what we've been doing, but the final year end payroll is going to look the same. And if Gordon is right, it's not a Bank of Cutler type deal, it only pertains to the 10 mill left for his signing bonus. Which can be handy, but not nearly to the extent I was hoping for.
  14. Coghlan, Valbuena, Wood for Upton?
  15. That quote really tilts me. I really, really hope that if we hadn't landed Lester it wouldn't have been straight to Operation Shutdown Part 4. But it's moot, so woo-hoo! I'm looking at it going forward. They had said they wanted a "veteran presence" type leader. That very well may wind up Ross and/or Gomes. But the FO knows those guys aren't moving the needle on win projections either. It's not likely another FA SP would either. So it does have me hopeful of one more rather meaningful move this offseason. Granted, we'll be buying at the deadline, so it's definitely plausible to see us holding off on anything big for now. And Im fairly certain if we had been told on November 1st we could skip to April 1st and be given Lester, Hammel, and Montero, the vast majority of us would have jumped at it. That said, it really seems like they're not ready to deal our top prospects yet. Could we get a very good rental guy using some combo of Castillo, Wood, Valbuena, and Vogelbach? Because I think that's honestly the ammo I think we'll be using if we DO find a nice upgrade somewhere.
  16. There's a Theo quote over the past few days too where he says if you do land one of these big names, it can change your focus a bit to where you may add a little more than you would have otherwise.
  17. Sure would make a deal with Washington a lot easier if they lost their shortstop... Brad Miller has been rumored to be the lead piece headed back to the Nats.
  18. If we don't want to move prospects yet and are dead set on adding one more FA SP, Im all in on Brett Anderson at this point.
  19. nice value, i expected him to play out the market longer and squeeze $60m out of a team like the now-desperate Giants I think all the previous injury issues kept him down a bit. He stayed healthy for the first time this past season and added velo. If he found a new workout that fits him, this could be a steal. But I think he maximized what the market would have paid him based on his prior results.
  20. I want that to mean so much more than it probably does I don't think they'd pull an all-nighter for Gomes. At least I hope they wouldn't.
  21. I'll be surprised if Heaney isn't flipped in a Hamels deal.
  22. I still think we'll do SOMETHING substantial prior to the season, but if we just add Masterson and Gomes, we'll still be buying at the deadline. Hell, if we do nothing else, we will be.
  23. I love Harper, but outside of Baez/Soler, I wouldn't give up any 2 of the guys mentioned and I'd think twice on a one for one involving Rizzo or KB. Mainly because Harper isn't THAT far from FA.
