Candelario is definitely there to increase his trade value. He's blocked at the major league level and it's also iffy if he's a definite 40 man add.

Cahill threw 7.2 innings at Iowa. I've got no clue why he's up. I guess he's starting pitcher depth? It's definitely surprising. He'd be a nice minor league signing to bring to ST, but to burn a 40 man spot on him? No idea. Edit- didn't realize he pitched 5 games, obviously a pen guy.

Ian Kennedy perhaps? Not going to get anything earth shattering obviously. I can't think of a pen arm that cleared at this point. -

Walk for Almora. He was still in a top 100 list or 2 heading into the year, while we laughed at the ranking. Now, he'll likely be forgotten by them and we'll be wondering if he should be on them again. -

A month ago or so, he got asked if his struggles will affect his Free Agency and he basically laughed and said no, "that that work has already been done". If he thinks he's breaking the 5/85 or even getting close to that, at this point, he's in for a rude awakening.

Adding Price or another TOR starter is what's likely needed(along with the bats continued development) to getting over the top of the Pirates and Cards. Giving Arrieta big money now seems completely unnecessary and it's just something we should shelve until it actually needs addressing. Too many unknowns, lots can and likely will change over that period of time.

It's not a sign of anything. He's guaranteed $30,657,000 over the next 4 years (which was praiseworthy this time last year.) Not exactly a low risk. There was hope some team would be willing to take on the full deal. It could still happen in the offseason, but the fact he went thru waivers unclaimed, at least lends to the likelihood that that's not happening now.

Some of the Twitter discussion is confusing. Doesn't Javy need to come up prior to 9/1 in order to be eligible for the postseason roster, since he's not been up all year? Or am I mistaken? Obviously, if that IS the case, it'd apply to CJ, Johnson, or anyone else that's not seen the majors this year too.....

Did the numbers ever get released on the WGN deal? For some reason, I'm not remembering it, if they were. I remember they were balking at their original 250k per game, saying they were losing most of that. At any rate, even an uptick here could mean good things for the immediate payroll. But that article kind of seems like they got a bargain out of it.

As long as he doesn't get put into high risk situations, it's just a flyer. He was OK even last year and the velo is still there. At least it got Schlitter DFA'd. -
I was just basing it on he's been put thru recently and figuring we'll hear soon.

Almora HR As for Mendy, there's just been no talk of ANYTHING. My honest guess is he's been in a year long funk.(that's a hot [expletive] taek) It certainly doesn't show that any adjustments have been made. Not sure if he's trying to or if he's incapable. At any rate, he's been passed over by enough guys that he's likely a 2nd/3rd piece in a deal during the offseason. The luster is off, but he's got a bit of value left. I'd liken it to Olt, when we got him in the Garza deal. There's teams that can give him ML at bats. My guess is he still winds up a useful major leaguer, just not as a first division starter.

I watched and liked it. But I'm STILL watching the Perfect Strangers one. It really brings to light how fun this group is.

It's not a complete gauge obviously, but we should find out within a day or so I'd think, if Starlin cleared waivers. If he DID, that can't help his value.
