  1. Re-reading that was great. And yes, I remember that Buck rant too. It was even meatballier than the article.
  2. Whatever happened to him sitting mid-90s touching upper-90s that the reports said during his senior year? That's two high round college senior draft picks who's velo dropped after being drafted. Zastryzny and now Stinnett. :( Going from pitching once a week to every 5th day does that to lots of guys.
  3. It seemed like there were multiple ones. Garcia was going to be a stud, Eaton's grittiness would set the table for Abreu, who was much better than Rizzo, and their 1-2-3 of Sale/Quintana/Shark was possibly the best in MLB.... I don't remember who wrote them, but my guess is Hayes. Maybe Sullivan.
  4. So McKinney is pretty good and all, but it wouldn't be crazy to say that Contreras is our second best prospect, would it? If he's a good defensive catcher to go along with what he's been doing offensively this year and McKinney's a corner OF..... It's pretty easy to get excited about him right now, but I'd want to see him sustain this kind of offense in Iowa next year before I'd say that. Top 10? Absolutely. That's as far as I'd go for now though.
  5. @MRubio52: Stinnett 89-91 with moderate run and poor command. Low 3/4, slider flashes, HS used CH sparingly. Stat-wise it was a great outing, but that's a pretty sad scouting report for him.
  6. Definitely worth keeping an eye on. He's 6'5, maybe 6'6 now, 240ish. Sits 92ish, hits 95. Can't remember his secondaries, he's raw. But he's taken big steps forward this year.
  7. I'm not happy with what we got. Not at all. But as long as Price was going somewhere he wouldn't get locked up prior to hitting FA, I didn't want him personally. Scoff, roll your eyes, whatever,(not directed at you David, or anyone in particular honestly) but I didn't want to give up a TON for a rental. Not for what's extremely likely going to be a play-in game. I get that everyone is tired as [expletive] waiting-me too, but I'm not willing to gut [expletive] for a true rental.....I'd have given up McKinney or anyone underneath him for Kazmir too, so it's not like I was totally against rentals or anything. Latos, Leake, I wanted more than what we got. But I'm glad we didn't give up Javy and Torres or more for 2 months of Price or Cueto, when we can get them free in the offseason. I truly wish I knew whether to be pissed at not getting Carrasco or Ross- Just no idea what was required to get them. I know I'll hear a ton of "you can't bank on the future" stuff, so be it. I'm fine with not giving up a ton for the rentals and will roll the dice on what's also a roll of the dice( the play in game) We're built thru hitting, not pitching, and I feel very comfortable moving forward. Again-I wanted more than what we did, but I was just more in the true 2nd tier camp(which Haren wasn't part of)
  8. Wait, are there people all of a sudden piping up like they wanted Price or Cueto now? Because I certainly don't remember those talks prior to the deadline.
  9. I dunno if that's true. I feel confident that'd leak, just as it did with Shields today.
  10. If Starlin goes thru waivers unclaimed, it'll get reported.
  11. The more time Castro is on the bench, the less we'll get for him in a trade. Add that to his salary and you'll be lucky to get a middle-level prospect or two. Him sitting for a third of a year or whatever role he has isnt going to affect what other teams see him as one way or the other. Either they'll show interest or they won't. The time for trading for prospects is done, if we deal him, I'd be shocked if its not for a major league return. Other teams have surpluses and/or guys that need a change of scenery too.
  12. how do you know (aside from the occasional start, obviously)? i hope you're wrong. I mean, I probably worded that wrong, but I'd be very surprised if he doesn't start 25-30 games the rest of the way. Part time starter seems like a cop out, but I guess that's what I'd think he is the rest of the REGULAR season. Unless he's scorching hot though, I don't think he'd be a starter in the playoffs though, if we're healthy.(Today's lineup seems like the best we can put out there) Edit-I may even go as far as to say I'm 50/50 on him being on our active playoff roster.(dependent on Javy)
  13. Needing a SS isn't the same as "willing to commit $40m to a guy coming off a -1 WAR year, his second terrible year in the last three." I actually wouldn't give up anything for him myself. I guess I'm relying on scarcity and desperation here-it'll be interesting to see unfold at least. At any rate, I don't see us dumping him this month.
  14. Waaaaay too early options for the offseason....Which door do you take? Door 1- Heyward with Carrasco, Teheran, or Ross-Castro and Javy are dealt(not necessarily in same deal) La Stella/Coghlan at 2B Door 2- Price and Fowler with Castro dealt Door 3- Kendrick, Span, and Samardzija with Castro dealt Door 4- Zobrist, Austin Jackson, and Zimmermann with Castro dealt Door 5- Heyward and Kazmir, Castro dealt and Javy at 2B I honestly have no idea which door I'd take, but I think these are relatively decent examples of the different paths we can take this offseason.
  15. Maybe, but I just don't think we can be certain. That's a not-insignificant amount of guaranteed money for a bounce-back guy. I think there's a real chance he won't be claimed on waivers and if he were, we'd think about letting him go for free. Really? I listed the teams that need SS somewhere rather recently, it made me change my mind about that scenario. I know we're not going to get a haul for him, but I do think the scarcity at the position will get us enough interest that we'll get something out of him.
  16. 1) he's not benched for the rest of the season 2) We're not about to just let a team take over his salary 3) Plenty of teams need SS, he's a solid bounce back type we'll be able to move in the offseason-not for a great return obviously, but I'd bet we'll be able to get a guy or two that help out the ML roster.
  17. Someone needs to find the Richie Schaeffer HR self celebration from last night.
  18. The Great Dominican Egg Shortage of 2008 is what led to the rather lengthy sentence. El Juevo Policia wouldn't tolerate the wasting of a good egg. A side note to this-Aybar had an episode at the Dominican Academy a few months back at breakfast. He hadn't had access to eggs(mandated) and when they were served at breakfast(scrambled), he grabbed as many as he could and started attempting curveballs with them. There was said to be a lot of run on it-but it's disputed due to not knowing how well the egg was cooked. At any rate, eggs are off the menu for now.
  19. Interesting back story here. He was put in jail for 7 years for egging police cars. But the legend says cops were impressed with both the dents put in their cars AND the accuracy that was shown during each egging. Long story short, the Dominican police captain knows Theo. He made a call for the kid and here he is..... Being that eggs and baseballs are a bit different, Julian is a bit raw at this stage and may be what's known as a late bloomer.
  20. Miggy is evidently impressed with Contreras, as he thinks he's a future MLB All Star Catcher. Said wait till you see his defense and arm.
  21. I know this is total speculation on my end, but it seems like if EJM was as good as it appeared at the outset, that 1) he'd have signed by now or 2) there'd be a ton more attention being put on him in the media than there has been. My guess is Badler's report was closer to the truth on him. Solid prospect, nothing special though, and teams have adjusted their thinking on him rather drastically since he's been seen recently. I was kind of thinking maybe there was a team or two waiting closer to the deadline to determine if they were buying or selling, that were stringing him along in case they possibly had more cash. But the fact he's getting so little coverage in comparison to the other high profile Cubans, makes me think his value has been shown to be less than expected. Really looking forward to the reports on Sierra though. It seems like Gutierrez and him have more upside than Ruiz. But I wouldn't turn my nose up on any of them obviously.
  22. only one final solution Traded for an loltbnl?
  23. I'm confused. Does Sontensei have options left?
