  1. Nah, I think I'll just go back to Desipio. Much more fun there.
  2. If you think saying that someone is sensitive is a personal attack ... well, you're too sensitive.
  3. Reading that Pierre and Walked walked, then Lee hit a double to score them both is ruining my pessimism.
  4. Getting close to the time I need to submit keepers for my league, and I was looking for another set of opinions. 10-team mixed league, we get to keep six players from year to year. Offensively, we start four outfielders, a standard infield, catcher and one utility spot. Categories are: OBP, R, RBI, SB, HR // Wins, ERA, WHIP, K, SV I need to pick six from a potential pool of: Manny Ramirez Vladimir Guerrero Miguel Tejada Jason Bay Carl Crawford Pedro Martinez Jake Peavy Chris Carpenter Felix Hernandez Some are obvious, but I'm leaning toward Manny, Vlad, Bay, Crawford, Peavy and Pedro. But Felix is keeper gold -- I'd hate to let him get away and watch him rip apart the league for the next 15 years on someone else's team. Any suggestions?
  5. No, I suppose you can call them the Cute Blue Fuzzy Wuzzies if you want, and I still won't question your fandom. But for me, I think just saying "Cubs" makes them sound somewhat like a team full of grown, competitive men. "Cubbies" sounds like a 12-and-under girls softball team. It's the same thing as an adult male going by a name like "Joey" or "Timmy." Unless a guy is an Italian mobster who offs people to compensate for his name, it just doesn't work too well.
  6. Well, no, it's not really like that. Nazi Germany was definitely worse, and would be a top-5 pick in the Bizarro Fantasy Government draft. And also, Mabry doesn't get as much playing time as Neifi because it's a lot easier to find random corner outfielders than middle infielders.
  7. I can't stand the rotating stretch singers. It's just another silly, cutesy "Cubbies" thing.
  8. I don't like how Dusty is already called John Mabry "Mabes." I sense another veteran love tryst.
  9. And if Adam Dunn didn't have plate discipline, he'd have a .270 OBP. And if Barry Zito had an average curveball, he wouldn't be in the major leagues. It's not reasonable to remove a player's most valuable asset in order to show a lack of productivity.
  10. Except Corey was early every year. Maybe he'd be better off coming late to camp then.
  11. I really hope so. I just really hope he doesn't pull a Dan Kolb. From the spring training pictures, his stomach looks a little Kolbish. That bothers me.
  12. The idea of paying to listen to Ron Santo on the radio is mind-boggling to me.
  13. No, not all of the media's. About 95% of it (or more)... Nothing like irresponsible, wild generalizations.
  14. Shouldn't it be that any player is eligible UNTIL there is substantial proof they've used steroids? Your idea seems sort of backwards.
  15. You're right, the Yankees and Red Sox always collapse under the weight of huge expectations and miss the playoffs.
  16. Old Style! Sunshine! Wrigley! Halter tops! Home runs! Ivy! Yayyy!
  17. I thought this thread was going to say, "Barry Bonds."
  18. And those splits hold true through Kearns' career ... meaning he has the bizarre contrast of getting on base significantly more again LHP, but slugging almost 80 points less. Not really sure what to make of it.
  19. I did. 3-4 weeks ago I told you folks with high probability the Cubs would sign Wade Miller. Edit: December 28th. You are an Internet hero.
  20. 2001 Miller > 2005 Ponson 2006 Miller = Allen Benes 2006 Ponson = 1997 John Popper
  21. I don't think that Lofton, at this stage of his career, is equal to Pierre. I think Jones is going to be okay in RF and surpise a lot of people. I definitely agree. While Pierre has his flaws, he's much more likely to put up a .350 OBP over the course of a full seaso than Lofton is. And while Pierre isn't very good defensively, Lofton is even worse.
  22. I thought the Reds would still have Dunn under control? Dunn's not a FA until after the 07 season. And since he'll be coming off a 52-homer season and just hitting his prime, there's no way Jim Hendry will give him the 5 years/$65 million that some other team (Blue Jays?) will.
  23. Grieve has always gotten on base, and he's younger than I thought. But TT is right -- he probably wouldn't be very good as a regular. He's a fine PH option, but he'd be overexposed by playing every day.
  24. No matter what Grieve does, I still won't be able to forget that at-bat late in 2004 where he pinch hit in the ninth inning and struck out without ever lifting the bat from his shoulder. Certainly not his finest moment.
  25. i didn't know that dominant in any way denoted good health. You can't really dominate from the bench.
