  1. I never had one. Never will.
  2. Ron Santo may be you in the booth, but he is NOT me. He's awful, and I can't stand listening to him.
  3. And then you have guys like Adam Dunn, with no speed, who look like beached whales in the outfield.
  4. ok - so dubois is an AAAA player, but hollandsworth is good off the bench with a 2005 line of 254/301/388 for the cubs and 171/275/257 for the braves? yeah, that sounds REALLY solid, brah. Cool, brah.
  5. Innings are totally irrelevant -- it's the number of pitches that counts. Maddux can get through nine innings with 80 or fewer pitches, while you'll rarely see Prior or Wood hit the late innings and still be under 110 pitches.
  6. Pie just doesn't have enough power for a corner spot, especially with Murton occupying the other corner. In my opinion, you should get about 2400 OPS points from your outfield, and with Pierre probably being around .700 and Murton hovering around .800, Pie just isn't going to cut it. Pie's strengths are great range in CF and good speed -- if he reaches his full potential, putting him in right field is like having Jessica Alba, but forcing her to wear sweatpants and a flannel shirt all the time.
  7. If Dusty gives Cedeno 200 at bats and Ronny hits .210 in them, Dusty is going to lose his job because it's going to severely hurt the team. And he knows that. The idea of Neifi starting doesn't make me happy. I think it's absurd. But I think it's equally absurd to let a rookie with a sketchy minor league history flounder away for two full months in hopes that he'll get better. A team with realistic WS aspirations shouldn't have to deal with this crap.
  8. And where is Dubois now? It's not like Dusty benched him, we traded him and then he went on to tear things up. The Indians (who everyone here loves) sure haven't found a use for him. And I don't blame Dusty if he benches Cedeno. He's playing terribly right now, and there's no guarantee he'll bust out of it. I've always been concerned about him, since he really just has about one year of success at the plate after being awful for four seasons. This is Hendry's fault, not Dusty's.
  9. Sadly, he doesn't. Downey is sort of considered the grandfather of Chicago sports writers, having been around for a long time with several papers (notably the LA Times). He's still awful, of course.
  10. 1. Ty Cobb 2. Barry Bonds 3. Todd Hundley 4. Albert Belle 5. Gaylord Perry
  11. Kerry will be starting before Prior. You heard it here first. (oh and be prepared for the Giles argument re: Jones) I don't think Giles is a much better player than Jones and he's four years older as well meaning he's much more prone for a big dropoff and injuries. I'm not saying I think Jones is a better player, I just don't know why so many people on this board worship Giles like a god. Jones OBP last season: .319 Giles OBP last season: .423
  12. I don't see how one could separate Dusty and Hendry that easily, as if they're two independent entities. Okay, technically they are two separate entities. But Hendry hired Dusty, he has stuck by Dusty and will probably continue to do so. He also has made some of the signings that allowed Dusty to misuse veterans. The two work together closely, and I'm sure there is a lot of collaboration, given their similar baseball philosophies. A poster on another message board has combined them into one single persona: "Dundry." I like it. The Billy Beane Theory has a GM working separately and sort of lording over the manager -- that's clearly not the case here. Which means that if the Cubs fail again this season, I think both of them should be shown the door.
  13. Very funny, but why did you say NSFW? Ballpark_Frank uses a little language, but that's all I could see. Yeah, I didn't click on it at work because of the tag -- but then got home and wondered why I waited. No biggie though.
  14. I know I'd really miss the constant injury updates and wondering each year if Prior would be able to make all his starts. I think what he means, is that if prior is no longer on this team, it's disappointing because of what a waste of talent it would be. Though your sarcasm is really productive. Likewise.
  15. I know I'd really miss the constant injury updates and wondering each year if Prior would be able to make all his starts.
  16. Mew mew mew.
  17. I hear that Patterson guy is the brother of the Cubs' minor league prospect. :D I hear that Patterson guy has a .293 career OBP.
  18. I think even in the best case scenario, it's going to add further delays to his throwing program, which is already way behind. If his shoulder is sore, we're looking at a few days to diagnose it. Say it comes back with the most optimistic diagnosis -- that he just has some inflammation. They'll give him a week off and he'll have to come back and make up for lost time, as well as catch up to everyone. I can't imagine seeing Prior pitch until at least late April, and that's just if there's nothing seriously wrong.
  19. Why do you do this to me? LOL, just reporting what I heard. It freaked me out initally but I'm not ready to jump yet. I want to find out if there is a real problem or just some regular discomfort. The Cubs might be taking the extra cautious road here for both players. After the strange way he's been handled all spring, there's no way he's completely okay. Shoulder soreness, especially for a guy who has pretty much been babied for the last five months, is a serious issue. He's been hurt all along. Healthy pitchers aren't treated like he was. This is absurd, and it's an insult to Cubs fans everywhere.
  20. We should trade Prior for Tejada. Oh.
  21. Yeah ... by a lot. I had a couple nice draft choices that I was able to sell high on (Lee, Willis, Glaus) and get more established players in return.
  22. Sweet. He's worth every penny of his salary.
  23. Exactly. They tell Little Leaguers not to bunt with their fingers curled around the bat, because they don't have the hand/eye coordination to keep their fingers out of the way. At higher levels, you trust yourself to put your fingers there and get more control of the bat ... that's just how most everyone does it. My college coach insisted we bunt that way, and we were branded as sissies if we were afraid to put out fingers around the bat. And as for his technique, it's very sound -- look at how he's crouched so the ball is at eye level, and he hasn't fallen out of the box yet. There's a major contrast to why Pierre bunts so well, and Corey couldn't quite get it down, and it's in their technique. Sorry to rain on the Pierre bashing parade, which apparently now includes how much clothing he wears.
