  1. I think Sammy's bomb in game 1 was bigger for me for some reason. Maybe because of when in the game it happened.
  2. It absolutely would not be stupid. Freaking out about it would be though. Who's freaking out? The Cubs have treated number retirement as a team hall of fame. I love Kerry, but he doesn't belong in that group.
  3. He's done that on more than one occasion!
  4. He pitched one of the greatest games of all time, second all-time in K/9, 10th all-time in H/9, was a key part of some of the best Cubs teams in recent times and was a fan favorite(which I think matters for team honors). Just because he doesn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame doesn't mean he wasn't an all-time great Cub. If they retire Kerry Wood's number, we will be a further laughingstock. I would say the following people would have a better claim to get their number retired by the Cubs: Sammy Sosa Mark Grace Lee Smith And maybe: Carlos Zambrano Ryan Dempster Aramis Ramirez No one is going to laugh if we retire Wood's number. In a world where the Heat have retired MJ's number, the Rays have retired Boggs' number and the Indians have ensured that no player will ever wear the number 455 for them again, the retiring number thing is not that meaningful to fans of other teams. There are plenty of laughs to go around -- those decisions don't change anything about the Cubs's decision. Retiring Wood's number would be stupid.
  5. This is like a Cubs fan in 2004 saying that the 2004 season was the worst one in their lifetime. The team everyone thought would be great and played like crap when it mattered most? That's actually a good analogy! ::ducks::
  6. Much more so than the 20K game. That was so huge. Yep. Won't ever forget that night. Awesome. Me: Kerry, in game 5 I got goosebumps. Kerry: Me too.
  7. Eff you Paul Sullivan. Why? I hate Sullivan but Wood was a complete prick in his response to that question. And how is that a "symbolic end to his career" and what does that have to do with the fact that a fan favorite player is retiring? It doesn't....except that Sullivan was butthurt that Wood was a meanie-head. Throwing in the towel, hanging up your hat... he left the field and threw his equipment in the stands the game before announcing his retirement. I'd say that's pretty symbolic.
  8. He is tree-mendous! Good ole country hard ball
  9. Eff you Paul Sullivan. Why? I hate Sullivan but Wood was a complete prick in his response to that question.
  10. i'm pretty sure they already have something like this. They have a flag on the Wrigley field roof and have had it for years. Next to Sosa's 66 flag and Hack's 191 flag.
  11. You have to realize that's kind of absurd, right? There's not going to be boycotts of Cubs games because the chairman's dad wants a republican in office. Yeah that was a really dumb comment.
  12. No guys, it's Wrigley Field's fault the Cubs were the last team to implement a farm system.
  13. The Thunder-Heat finals matchup would make for the worst final 3-5 minutes of every close game in Finals history. Both teams just do weird things and run awful plays down the stretch of close games. It'd set the record for the most step-back double teamed jumpers in a series.
  14. If Fisher wins his 6th title, where does he stand in relation to the all-time greats?
  15. Was it about GRINDERS? I think it was the one about Mike Caruso's 2 run homer in a game at Wrigley. I think the Sox swept that series. Nah, some walk off grand slam by Ventura. Then how he cares about fundamentals and playing the game the right away, and omg kill me. Wut color do the good guys wear?
  16. They don't do repeat matchups that I'm aware of. Northwestern has played Georgia Tech for the last 2 years.
  17. I got chills watching the highlights, and I didn't even have a horse in this race.
  18. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/nba/story/2012-05-10/Denver-Nugget-Chris-Andersens-home-target-of-investigation/54881346/1 Yeah I read about that today. It seemed so bizarre... he fits the profile of a coke fiend but not a kiddieporn lover. The article I read specifically mentioned that he didn't live alone-- perhaps one of his roommates was involved and they tracked the IP address to his house?
  19. I love watching Javale McGee. Such a freak.
  20. Good God, that's Lebronish. Somebody get 15 ccs of Propecia to Halas Hall, stat!
  21. This would be great and all, but didn't we get stories like this last year? Or maybe it was the year before. John Clayton compared him to Steve Smith "only faster" in training camp 2007.
  22. Tracking flyballs/linedrives isn't all that athletic of an activity. It's largely instinctual after years of following balls coming off bats from that distance/angle. This^ and just for [expletive] and giggles http://gif.mocksession.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/NYJER-MORGAN.gif Haha when is this from?
