  2. Well, that's false. So we have a person who has previously commented on how he views the game and how he wants to manage, what he believes in, etc. Then, that person follows through on said thoughts and by all accounts, indeed manages that exact way in the minors. Now, one would logically assume that he wouldn't completely change his beliefs, even in the majors, given the fact that said beliefs don't even have much to do with player development in the first place (i'm talking the hit and run, bunting comments, etc.), and in his view, deal with winning (which would be his major league goal as opposed to development). One could make an argument that he wants a job at any cost, and would agree to change his minor league style to simply get a job, despite it conflicting with how he said he views the game of baseball in the first place. But instead of realizing that's unlikely, though possible, you seem to state it's extremely likely with the "false" comment. See where there's a perceived problem?
  3. Monopoly Or they are watching the Lord of the Rings Trilogy Theo showed Quade Titanic to metaphorically show him how he brought down the Cubs.
  4. His comment could have been taken either way. Without looking it up, he essentially said that he liked our approach to the draft in terms of prioritizing it and spending more, but he also said he wasn't talking about any specific players in general.
  5. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/sc-spt-1030-notes-rogers-baseball--20111030,0,4735617.column I like the scoreboard, but if majority of that money goes back into the payroll...adios.

  8. I don't think the question is will trading him really hurt the team, it's how will it benefit the team? I've said all along, if nothing else Z's a quality mid rotation pitcher. I know that you don't want to pay a mid rotation guy 18 mil but that's irrelevant at this point as we'll be paying most of it wherever he pitches. He's more valuable to us than if we send him away, pay at least 15 of the 18 mil and replace him with Casey Coleman. Z's best value is if we keep him and hope he can make the most out of what is sure to end up a contract year and if he can pitch well and behave himself then shop him around if we're not contending. Yes. I'm pretty much 100% for keeping Z and slotting him into the #4 spot (assuming we acquire another SP).
  9. Speaking of reclamation projects, Chris Young (pitcher) is a FA. He's coming off a torn shoulder capsule, but he's saying he expects to be 100% at spring training. Even coming off of the injuries, he's been pretty dominant when he's been out there. Given his last contract was just over 1M, i'd expect his next contract to be in that neighborhood.
  10. On a random note, Sonny Gray was someone I wanted us to take a really close look at last year (and i'm sure we did since we had already drafted him before). His stats, already in AA last year, 5 games started, 0.45 ERA, 8.1 K/9. Sample size sure, but it makes me wonder. Obviously way to early on both him and Baez to even make preliminary conclusions, but it's slow and i'd thought i'd throw that out there.
  11. I have to admit I have never been that high on Lake, but him and Vitters have been real impressive during the AFL. I'm still worried about Vitters patience but I hope that this is something that both players can carry forward to next year. There's still plenty of room on the bandwagon for each of them. Come on board early and get a good seat! It'll be nice to have company. Hey, i'm the one who's had him as my profile pic since the draft 8-) And...unfortunately Jay Jackson that i've been lazy to change. But maybe he'll suprise.
  12. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on Spangenburg, but you've got to be encouraged by his start to proball. .316/.419/.418 25 steals (72 games) 45:57 BB:K He might be unique given his lack of power so far, but it seems like he might make up for it in other areas. His 13 errors surprised me though...wasn't he touted as a defensive wiz predraft? Or am I getting him confused?
  13. LaPorta is an interesting name. Epstein/Hoyer/McLeod drafted him. I had a dream the other night where Theo was going after all "great prospects that went subpar at the majors". The only two I remember us getting were Dominic Brown (Marmol + prospect(s)) and Justin Smoak. LaPorta would fall in there. But that was the offseason theme. If that turns out to be true, I will begin to quote my dreams as "according to sources".
  14. Looking back at most of the important signings, they all seem to fall around the first 10 days of December.
  15. Amen brother. I feel you.
  16. If you sign a player before Nov. 23, you have to give his team whatever compensation is due, whether they intended to offer him arbitration or not. You can sign players earlier than that. Examples would be stupid teams who don't care, players who are definitely going to be offered, or players who don't require compensation to be given up by the signing team. Free agency formally begins Nov. 3, six days after the World Series ends. It used to start much later than that, but they moved it up this year. And players don't have to formally file anymore, they just become free agents. Thank you.
  17. Wait, Free agency would start after Nov. 23 right? I'm confused.
  18. Is it really? Damn, I was expecting Theo and Jed/etc. to have awhile to consider all their options. I know it takes a bit before people sign, but they must have been talking about our situation for awhile now. I don't know how I forget the dates every year despite being obsessed with it.
  19. Yeah, I was listening to KC sports radio and their weather guy said there would be a delay at most. Dumb. If we're getting upset at gamesmanship though, I'd much rather be irritated at Holliday's slide last night. He slid late, high, and made an upward pushing motion at Andrus as he went by. Led to a run too. Meh. It was obvious, but clearly legal (within arms reach). We all know the intent on 99% of those slides. This one might have been more obvious, but still within the rules (not that you said it wasn't). It's game 6 of the World Series, they're going to do whatever they can. But on the other hand it is the Cards. F that.
  20. Have they mentioned anything more about trading picks? I know it was mentioned a serious possibility awhile back. I could see Theo trying to abuse that until teams sort of settle on consensus market values.
  21. http://twitter.com/#!/Ken_Rosenthal/status/129943693854646272 Interesting.
  22. FWIW, the only time i've seen the 150 million mentioned was when it was referenced as the payroll + draft/international signings money, not simply major league payroll. I mean i'd love it to happen (and it probably will in the future when more revenues come in), but I highly doubt it for 2012.
  23. I know you're just spitballing, but do you really think there's a remote possibility to sign Pujols (or Prince), Wilson (or Edwin), Oswalt, Grady Sizemore or Jason Kubel, and possibly Jose Reyes, on top of extending both Castro and Garza?
