  1. If a team is outgaining the other team by a huge margin in yardage, but still loses, then they likely lost the game due to TOs, bad special teams play, terrible execution in the red zone. These are all factors in a football game that you cannot overlook. The baseball and football situations are certainly not analogous, as run/hit differential will show you a truer representation of how the team should perform over the long haul rather than how the team played that particular game, whereas in football "you play to win the game.". It takes 2 losses to dash your national championship goals. What matters in the end is execution. Nothing else. You just cited my exception as your example. As I said, the only time a team performs better and loses is due to missed calls by the officials. That's really the only thing they can't control.
  2. this is asinine. aside from blatantly botched calls by referees, the team who plays better as a rule wins out in football. outgaining a team 500 yards to 100 is meaningless if you can't execute that yardage into scores. USC was outplayed the two Saturdays they were beaten. they're the best team in the nation because losses caused them to be outplayed, but the games were not indicative of their true talent level. football is in no way comparable to baseball for this concept.
  3. Wow, did Tebow look bad that series.
  4. While the announcers have expended every breath talking about Crosby, Evgeni Malkin is a fantastic player in his own right. It's a shame he's not on a team where he can be recognized as the true franchise player he is, instead of being so overshadowed.
  5. The game has also been so fast-paced. What a fun game this has been to watch so far.
  6. The Pens-Sabres game is really something to watch.
  7. The Bulls gave 75 minutes of floor time this game to two players who totaled 3 points.
  8. Swap Fukudome and Ramirez in the first lineup, and you've got the winner.
  9. Young was also a multi-year national star in college. Most QBs are going to suck when their best receiving target is Roydell Williams. And he's a natual fit for Madden, when so many of the people who play it prefer to use teams with a running QB. That's a huge reason why Vick was so popular. Just about everybody I played against had the Falcons as their team of choice so they could run around with Vick all game. And now Young is becoming the player of choice most people like to use.
  10. Just because Vince Young isn't an elite QB doesn't mean he's not one of the most marketable QBs in the game. In large part, he's filling Vick's shoes.
  11. I still can't forgive the Ravens for their meltdown. That game was sign, sealed, delivered.
  12. Seems like 2 minutes ago this game was 28-16.
  13. How hard can it be to tackle Kevin Faulk?
  14. This one's pretty much over.
  15. These are really bumbling referees.
  16. How do you pass interfere when you're not touching the guy?
  17. Yuck, the Giants D is starting to tire.
  18. Louis Williams doesn't qualify?
  19. And of course the perpetually wounded Marty Havlat.
  20. The Lakers would look really imposing if they still had Caron Butler.
  21. The Red Wings are a video game team right now. They outshot the Wild, a defensive-minded team, by a margin of 51-19. It seems like every game of theirs is like this.
  22. Curtis Granderson is just about the worst hitter in baseball vs. LHP and he's still enjoying some success. It's also not like that's a weakness that can't possibly be fixed.
  23. And will sustain a high level of production later into their careers.
  24. Corey Patterson was not a 5-tool prospect though. .261 in AA, .253 in AAA- it should have been obvious that he was missing the hitting tool. For comparison's sake, Pie hit .304 at AA and .308 at AAA. The problem with the "5-tool prospect" label is that seemingly 80% of the players described as such are really 3-4 tool players. There's really no reason anybody should dislike legitimate 5 tool players for their teams. Hell, Beane even said something to the effect of "Ideally you'd prefer 5 tool players at all positions, but it's not financially feasible." I'm paraphrasing, but that's essentially the idea.
  25. Who doesn't like 5-tool prospects?
