  1. mlb will grant them an extention. mets offering 152, two sides are 10m apart. according to John Heyman
  2. the bp prospect lists have always been bloody awful http://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/20030129roundtable.shtml http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=2594 http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=3773 https://baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=1335 usually about half of their top half just completely busts out. you'll find some of the other lists have better reliability for future forecast, but i guess it's all for entertainment anyways.
  3. they're optimistic for about every position player. i'm going to take the under on the guzman proj too.
  4. the most enthusiastic i've ever seen fans at any live sporting event.
  5. Why don't we just use that offer to get Jimmy Rollins? Our lineup will be super awesome then!
  6. not bothering to respond?
  7. if i were a GM i know i'd think of ways to alienate all of my players.
  8. prove? i wish you graded my homework. "it's got numbers, well i'm convinced!" this tool is fun for discussion and comparison, but it's so divorced from reality that you shouldn't put too much stock in it's accuracy. last year's results had brad ausmus batting leadoff. good idea, give one of the awful-est hitters in the entire sport 140 more PAs. i know its en vogue for us to think conventional wisdom is always wrong, but imagine hitting your run producers at the top of the order, burying your speedy on base types at the end, giving your pitchers more ABs, and various other types of backwards strategies. you'll have managers asking players to do things diametrically different than they have the previous 10-20 years of their career and you'll breed a team of malcontents as a bonus to reduced offensive production. and don't the other sabermetric studies argue a minimal impact from the lineup order? this has a 100+ runs difference impact based on the batting order for the Cubs example.
  9. who said they were random? we haven't a clue what they're factoring, how much weight they're giving it, what they're omitting, and still it's used as gospel of a player's true value. it's laughable. i guess i'm more critical. what statistic do you prefer that gives an estimation how much a player is worth? not just hitting, but value for their fielding, and baserunning too. none exist yet. not even close. you could consider all the aspects of a player's game and make an educated evaluation with all of the incomplete information you're presented with instead of lazily trusting another self-proclaimed expert to do your thinking for you. it's more fun too.
  10. those guys thought jeremy reed was the best defensive CF in baseball.
  11. who said they were random? we haven't a clue what they're factoring, how much weight they're giving it, what they're omitting, and still it's used as gospel of a player's true value. it's laughable. i guess i'm more critical.
  12. any reason why we have so much faith in a statistical manipulation with which we have no idea the formula?
  13. His name looks like an anagram of Plaschke so I don't trust him.
  14. Because "Bergen Record's Bob Klapisch" is probably blowing smoke.
  15. yeah i know i'm just really hungry right now.
  16. as part of a deal to net us GreeneWow it took 29 posts before His name got thrown into the discussion. I was wondering how He could be incorporated into this thread. Kudos. On another note, mmmm....Crisp Pie...
  17. I'd like to defend the Twins, but they're set to go to opening day with Everett, Lamb, Harris in their IF. Gross.
  18. Beane? really? It might be arguable, but yes, really. Beneficiary of three stud pitchers having great health and a bunch of mediocre hitters who shot their bodies chock full of steroids. No such luck with Harden and he can't field a decent hitter anymore. That team isn't doing feces for awhile and payroll will be the convenient excuse. If I've got a slashed budget, just give me Beinfest instead.
  19. Theo inherited Manny Damon Lowe and Pedro. Ortiz signing was brilliant but it wasn't. Dude wanted Jeremy Giambi starting over him. Come to think of it, what has Theo done? It's nice to have a 135m payroll to cover your mistakes of Drew, Lugo, Clement, Renteria, Pena... I'd probably take Gillick over a bunch of the guys mentioned.
  20. Santana's career inter-league stats: 182.2 IP, 16-4, 191 K, 2.27 ERA, 0.91 WHIP.
  21. Yeah, that. And Marquis, the team was 20-13 in his starts. We haven't been soapdropped in the donkey yet with that signing like everybody is convinced already happened. Sure, there is ample reason to suspect he'll be rotten the next two years, but you're jumping the gun in proclaiming it a dumb signing as it has not turned out badly as of yet. As far as we can tell, Hendry could very well be relieved of him right now (Mets) if he felt the necessity to do so.
