  1. didn't Casey Kotchman have a 2.8 fWAR last year? fwiw, Kurt Suzuki and James Loney had 2.3 fWAR seasons too last year Dempster and Marshall were good enough players, but their contract statuses sucked most of the value out of them as assets
  2. most had given up on Cashner as a starter due to all the injuries Marshall was a (great) middle reliever in his last arb year...when do guys like that get traded for a significant return? Brett Jackson i liked, you can add him to my earlier list Szczur wasn't a top-100 guy to anybody but BA; what would you realistically trade for a top-150ish prospect? what did we even trade Soto for again?
  3. he left Theo & co with a bunch of penny stocks- that some have gained in value (Dempster fluking into a sub-3 ERA, or Barney's fielding stats jumping likely as a result of positioning) isn't really a huge credit to Hendry yes, that's basically what i'm saying by this same absurd twisted logic, we know Larry Andersen was simply oozing with trade value when the Red Sox dealt him
  4. (when i said he left them nothing, i assumed it was easily understood that meant nothing of value...he obviously left him some players with which to actually physically field a team, and not that he made off with all his players like some dastardly bandit)
  5. Marshall. Barney. Dempster. Cashner. Samardzija. hindsight BS a FA-to-be middle reliever a guy with a career 79 OPS+ a 35yo FA-to-be coming off a 4.80 ERA season a pitcher coming off a shoulder injury who'd still never topped 100 IP a wild reliever who'd never even produced a 4.25 xFIP none of these were assets with significant value at the beginning of the year
  6. Hendry left them nothing - Castro, Garza and...Baez, i guess i don't think i can really emphasize this and repeat this often enough
  7. Would our farm system be any worse right now if we signed free agents this past offseason? Would our 2013 team be better? absolutely, we would have made a misguided attempt at contention and kept Marshall, Dempster, Cashner, Maholm, etc. in most likely a completely futile endeavor (trying to compete this year)* Pujols, Wilson, Ramirez...their primes are all behind them and they are likely to decline going forward; they'd make us worse next year and beyond relative to the younger, more appropriate, more intelligent FA signings we're likely to make *edit: would we also have had the funds remaining available to sign Soler?
  8. is this even a real argument? if we barely scraped out a .500 season with the $400M we handed out to those guys, where do we go from here? pick up a few more high-profile FAs again this offseason to fill all the holes? is that even a remotely feasible option? i guess i could understand such desperate impatience if you're 85 years old right now
  9. 1.5 games out, in the worst division in baseball they have the same record as Oakland, and Pittsburgh
  10. And that scares the hell out of me. see, this is what i'm talking about the preference around here was to aimlessly throw money at Ramirez, Pujols/Fielder, Wilson in some flaccid attempt to be a .500 team again in all the raging over our current plight, it's somehow been glossed over that the new FO inherited like three useful assets in the entire system; it's not their fault people had absurdly unrealistic expectations
  11. did backtobanks change his name to southsideryan
  12. http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/000/276/107/EzequielAstacio_P01_display_image.jpg?1277750322
  13. similarly, the Tigers have three 900+ OPS players, four of the top 14 starters in the AL for FIP, and three relievers with 127 ERA+ or better, and they're barely keeping afloat
  14. his twitter MothaFucka Jones ‏@chatsportsACE Whoa, this App State weed article has gone VIRAL. MothaFucka Jones ‏@chatsportsACE @BlakeLinder the great part is everyone knows me and has an opinion. any writer who is loved by all is a joke and a team homer. #kingofmedia MothaFucka Jones ‏@chatsportsACE @fish0462 this is the biggest story on the sports internet right now. i am sure they are aware. GR SSR basically just cited da bum
  15. thanks for pointing that out, i had almost lost all respect for the wrong person
  16. this is the guy who wrote that article: http://blog.chatsports.com/wp-content/plugins/user-avatar/user-avatar-pic.php?id=29&w=150 Paul Wezner ‏@TigsTown If one more person sends me the made-up story from the hack that is Ace Williams about Michigan's '07 team, I'm gonna punch someone should we also expect to see a sudden influx of bleacherreport articles now, GR?
  17. if you need a memory refresher for any of it, this is always helpful http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_Zb80jOddo
  18. even still, there are 18 boards, i feel like you could consolidate them into 10 or fewer before adding another one
  19. Gary Gray...name sounds familiar, but I can't put a face to it. Would you kindly ask him to please TURN HIS [expletive] HEAD AROUND Or at least assault the receiver in the damn end zone when the only way you are guaranteed a loss is if you don't?? in his defense, he actually drew an interference flag on that play too
  20. does Gary Gray have any eligibility left?
  21. i can't wait to see more freakouts when Valbuena, he of the .342/.479/.579 line for August, is in the lineup again
  22. i like Valbuena, but what the hell was he doing there?
  23. Bruce gets fooled and dribbles an IF hit to the vacant 3B area, Frazier reaches over on a ball a foot out of the zone for a single, and i start feeling bad for Volstad, and then of course he starts serving up meatballs to guys like Valdez and Latos
  24. how has he been bad longer than he's been good?
