  1. preseason ZiPS had Alcantara down for .712 OPS, and that was before he's had so far a career-best season in the highest level he's played at anything's possible, but projections should be reasonably north of .700 for him
  2. it's actually pretty easy to say "that guy sucks" without looking like a pathetic feeble spaz "You are wrong and I am right on both counts" is pretty likely the most embarrassing declaration of all, even regardless of whatever's being referenced
  3. a June '15 regular lineup of CF Alcantara 3B Valbuena 1B Rizzo SS Castro RF Bryant LF Lake 2B Baez C Castillo seems pretty cool Alcantara should be up really soon where we can give him a few months to acclimate, Ruggiano can man the fort in right for a month or two, and it might still be worth trying to retain Bonifacio for another year or so as a versatile utility guy back half is still pretty whiffy / streaky, but there's nobody you can leisurely groove a few FBs to with impunity, which'll be nice for a change want to spend more money? buy the Cuban (Tomas) and install him in LF, and pursue Maeda with avarice
  4. for the last month, he's in pretty good company http://i57.tinypic.com/2yy4k1k.jpg
  5. 2.82 ERA / 1.11 WHIP in 19 Cubs starts* *buoyed by 6.8 H/9, a far cry from his 9.3 H/9 in the AL EAST
  6. fwiw, Dave Cameron thinks he's broken http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/shelby-miller-looks-broken/ (from April, but he's stuck to it when asked more recently)
  7. Shelby Miller feels like Jeremy Hellickson from a couple years ago, where you know they'd like to move on, but they'll always command way too much to actually make it happen (and he might really be kind of bad)
  8. i'd be fine with Gonzales/Martinez, Alex Reyes, Kelly/Grichuk/Ramsey give 'em Wright, if they need to back-fill C-Mart
  9. 1.018 OPS vs. lefties, 16.7% Ks .773 OPS vs. righties, 25.7% Ks i don't know for sure what to make of that, but i figure our resident Alcantara expert would deem them pretty non-prospect-y on the whole
  10. no, it's cbs-created for the right guy; he's actually the only result that comes up when i search "gonzales"
  11. waiting on SSR to inform me if that's supposed to be impressive or not
  12. quick, name the best non-top-5 pick we've drafted so far under McLeod
  13. he's in the system, i've owned him for a little while - check my minors
  14. Schwarber leads ALL '14 draftees with 36 TB, next highest has 22 and amongst ALL '13 draftees (AB > 50), Bryant has the highest OPS (1.162), with DJ Peterson 2nd (.990), also 22 and playing in high-A
  15. wasn't there some dolt who was campaigning for Vitters as LF? we could have seen some historic numbers compiled
  16. multi-win? i keep comping him to a +5 defender strictly so as not to invite kyle's annoying [expletive] ass into the thread to repeat his tired "great minor league defense never translates" stupidity
  17. what are you expecting from a 20-year-old in AA? same league and age, Andrew McCutchen had a .126 ISO (95 wRC+) if you scout a guy to add power, then a lofty ranking is justifiable; even still, Elvis Andrus was moved just as aggressively, had a nasty-ass .086 ISO in the minors and basically has been a 3-win player throughout his career: a top-50 position player throughout that period
  18. in short, because he's never even played there yet, he's not overflowing with athleticism and now teams are throwing more natural CFs like Greg Polanco and Gerardo Parra into RF, thus raising the bar do you think he'll be a better RF than Nick Markakis? Jayson Werth? and i only put a 3-run gap in baserunning between fictional Bryant and fictional Lindor, which seems more than fair to the former
  19. lol thinking in terms of WAR: a .360 OBP / .525 SLG RF with a below average glove (-5) and below average baserunning (-3) - is virtually equivalent in value to - a .350 OBP / .375 SLG SS with an above average glove (+5) and average baserunning
  20. lol, 1.8 WAR playing LF - 4th best in MLB his CF defensive stats are almost as appalling as his PH stats; it's aggravating they persist with that experiment, just to force PAs for the Kalishes and Coghlans of the world
  21. Jacque Jones had a HOF bat flip
  22. If we had anything resembling a competent outfield, I wonder where we'd be. our production at the catcher position has also been league-worst
  23. today's Google Doodle is the best so far
