  1. They're incompetent as far as fielding a winning team (but not as incompetent as the previous owners, so they got a free pass), but they're VERY, VERY competent about making truckloads of money off the team.
  2. The window is never closed when you have a $100 million payroll.
  3. There ought to be a way we can tank the Tribune's stock price or something. There's tons of places you can attack that corporate structure... it's not like it's some crazy old owner who doesn't have to answer to anyone owning the team. A lot could be done by going after newspapers and TV stations (and their sponsors).
  4. Some guy in the bleachers had a huge sign he held up when Rusch got yanked that everyone was going nuts for. It said "A FAILURE TO PLAN (Picture of Hendry looking inept) IS A PLAN FOR FAILURE (Picture of Dusty looking clueless w/ toothpick)"
  5. There were a ton of Tigers fans at the game yesterday, and I imagine even more coming today.
  6. The idea would be a new owner (i.e. Mark Cuban) would clean house once taking over and put competent people in the Pres/GM/Manager positions.
  7. That's awesome if they're skipping Rusch... that means I get to see Marmol Friday at Wrigley
  8. This seems pretty pointless at Wrigley where you could probably yell at them from the dugout if the phone wasn't working.

Huh? Marmol threw 4 pitches yesterday (4-seamer, 2-seamer, breaking ball, changeup).
  10. We have control of Prior/Z until after 2008, I believe.
  11. I wouldn't be deathly opposed to adding a huge video screen, but taking out the hand-operated scoreboard would be a criminal offense.
  12. We're on HGH now
  13. Marmol is a stud... definitely has more than just the 2 pitches too.
  14. With the payroll the Cubs have, we don't have to homegrow the whole team, nor is there a track record of our prospects panning out well.
  15. Walker and Rich Hill for Bonds + roids for the whole team
  16. I think I'd much rather see Cuban come in and install a different organizational philosophy than spend more money. The money was more than enough to get the job done but the team was constructed with faulty premises. Yep, I'd rather see him spend the money on bribing the A's and Braves scouts/minor league coaches to come over.
  17. People are going to be shocked when they find out how many people were roiding, and how many people are using HGH and other things that urine samples can't detect. BALCO was just the tip of the iceberg.
  18. 2B Walkah SS Cedeno 1B Lee 3B Aram LF Lee RF Jock/Craig Wilson platoon of DOOM C Barrett CF Pie
  19. Dave Otto would have been a better option today. Actually, Wood would have only given up the one run on the HR had he thrown to 1st instead throwing the ball away. But his stuff looked absolutely terrible (no movement) and the Astros were hitting him really hard.
  20. Len actually just appealed to Satan to turn the Cubs luck around on air there a few minutes ago.
  21. Yeah, Wood's pitches look really gimpy today... looks like an average pitcher stuff-wise today. Astros are teeing off on him.
  22. Murton got tagged with an empty glove and thought he was out.
  23. He could be bulked up into a TE. The ND football forums I went to, to check on him think he can somehow pitch in the minor leagues while he's playing in the NFL, since a pitcher only has the pitch "once every 5 days". Never mind how badly he'd get dinged up in the NFL and how tiny injuries can screw up your mechanics.
  24. I can't imagine Samardzija would play baseball, particularly as a pitcher. He'll definitely be a 1st round NFL pick. Unless he really loves baseball, he's not going to turn down that NFL draft money, which will be much more than what the Cubs pay him.
