  1. We need to start e-mailing all these clowns and telling them that 5-20 while playing most of the worst teams in the NL is unacceptable, no matter how many injuries we have. It'd be one thing if we were playing .400 ball over the last 25 games, but we're way worse than that.
  2. There's no chance in hell Baker gets extended as long as this mess continues. Period. This isn't just bad performance, it's abyssmal.
  3. A first base bat wouldn't keep us from playing terrible ball during this stretch but we'd at least have a pulse and perhaps be 7-8 games out instead of 12.

    LMAO

I think we're probably another week away from the Axeman coming for someone... getting close though.
  5. We need to keep Prior unless we get a stud back, and let Maddux/Wood walk. Especially since his value is pretty low right now. Counting on Hill, Guzman, Williams, or Marshall as being anything other than the #5 starter is really pushing it. Marshall had a good stretch but he's getting shelled now. The other 3 have been constantly shelled this year. Trading Prior is basically waving the white flag on this team's potential over the next 2-3 years before Z and Prior become high priced FAs. That's the window management needs to work with to get this thing fixed.
  6. Nobody, because Pie should be ready (and if we keep imploding, he'll get some major time this year). The easiest way to upgrade the offense would be a better corner outfielder and getting someone who mauls lefties to platoon with Jacque Jones. We've got the money to spend on it.
  7. Allow me to finish that thought: ".....we will suck only slightly less." Imagine for a second that Lee doesn't get hurt. Do the Cubs still lose 15 of 20 or whatever in May? Perhaps not but I don't see why things would be that much better. The Cubs had Lee last year and still managed 2 different extended losing streaks. Give the Cubs Lee all season and Prior and they're still no better than 3rd place. Even if we very generously assume Lee is worth 3 runs a game by himself, that's only 6 more wins since he got hurt. The team has still been playing ball well under .500.
  8. Yep, they figure if they field a team that has a realistic chance to win the division every year, they'll sell out Wrigley and they don't have any need/desire to do anything more than that. At some point, there has to be a push to win it all before Prior and Z become free agents.
  9. Our record the past 24 games is more than just "one bad loss"... it's a .208 winning percentage against 6 of the 7 worst non-Cub teams in the NL.
  10. 5-19 That is .208 ball That is in no way "keeping your head above water", that's a complete implosion. 3 wins of those wins are against the Nationals and Pirates, 2 of the 3 worst teams in the league. The Marlins, Pirates, and Nationals all have more wins in the month of May than the Cubs. We've been as bad as the Kansas City Royals this month, and the only teams we've played that are in the top half of their division are Arizona and the White Sox. The other 6 teams are the bottom two in their respective divisions, not counting the Cubs in the standings. They are also 6 of the 7 worst teams in the NL, recordwise to this point (again, not counting the Cubs). We are 4-15 against those six teams (Brewers, Pirates, Nationals, Marlins, Padres, and Giants). That's good for an awesome win percentage against those teams of .211. 2 wins are when our pitchers shut out the other team and another 2 wins are when they held the other team to 1 mere run. In other words, we've won 1 game since April 28 when our pitchers have given up more than a run.
  11. There's so many Cubs fans nationally because WGN is available across the country, and the Trib did a brilliant job of marketing the team 20 years ago. So people who didn't have a team of their own they could watch regularly and liked baseball latched onto the Cubs.
  12. A Jones/Wilson platoon would have a 0.974 OPS so far this year. Wilson is a guy with some pop, who can play first base/OF, and who eats lefties for breakfast. Exactly what this team needs.

  14. They'll stagger the appeals so Mabry/Barrett aren't serving at the same time. Soto will surely get the call and Theriot goes down.
  15. Jones hit that off a lefty
  16. A lot of money is going to be freed up after this season, and a corner OF spot is the most sensible place to spend it to upgrade the offense. Lee/Barrett/ARam are fine. The only real upgrade at 2B over Walker would be Soriano, a big waste of money. There's not any stud SSes available as FA and Cedeno is a decent option there. The outfield has been terrible Jones is fine if you platoon him with a cheap guy who destroys lefties (Craig Wilson or Murton in a platoon). Actually either platoon would give you a surprising amount of bang for your buck. Pie will be a big upgrade over Pierre thus far and is cheap. That leaves Murton's OF spot.
  17. Hawk and DJ are now accusing Zambrano of threatening to bean White Sox players now. What a bunch of friggin homers. AJ was yelling at Barrett after he hit that HR too
  18. Just for an idea of what you could throw together: Hypothetical 2007 Roster: C Barrett ($4.6 million) 1B Lee ($13 million) 2B Walker $3 million SS Cedeno (cheap) 3B ARam ($11 million) LF Abreu $15 million or decently studly FA OF at $9/10 million CF Pie (cheap) RF Jones($4 million)/Craig Wilson 2 headed monster Bench: 1B/Corner OF/Emergency Catcher C. Wilson ($4 million) (righty power bat) 1B/Corner OF Matt Stairs $1.5 million (lefty power bat) Richard Lewis SS/2B (cheap) 3B/SS/2B Perez ($2.5 million) OF Pagan (cheap) Catcher Soto (cheap) Bullpen: Dempster ($5 million) Howry ($4 million) Eyre ($3.5 million) Rusch ($2.5 million) Ryu or Ohman (cheap) Novoa (cheap) Rotation: Z ($6.5 million + salary bump?) Prior ($4 million + salary bump?) Marshall (cheap) Wood/Stud FA ($8-10 million) Farm Kid (cheap) or decent starter at $5-7 million Payroll between $92-105 million depending on what you spend on LF/5th starter.
  19. the cubs have been building for the future for 98 years, its time to win right now I hear you. I wish it were possible, but Hendry and Baker have sent this team into such a tailspin we are now miles away from contention. There's always Murphy's. And HiTops. And the CubbieBear. Enjoy Wrigleyville, because the "L" flag will be flying often for the forseeable future. The $27 million in payroll of Pierre, Maddux, and Wood alone going off the books is plenty of money to fix the team. Pie and Marshall are cheap candidates to replace Pierre and Maddux. Even if we resign Wood, surely he gets a pay cut or an incentive based contract for being hurt so much. Everyone who costs money on the bench except Nefi could be gone too (Blanco, Mabry, Hairston), so that could be fixed. Dusty is making over $4 million this year and some of that could go to player payroll.
  20. Cuban's net worth is $1.8 billion, so he could easily buy the whole team or the majority of the team. Value of the Cubs is only about $400 million. And I seriously doubt Cuban would hire Brenly. Whoever the manager is would value Sabrmetrics.
  21. I got $100 on Anderson getting beaned for putting Mabry in the hospital.
  22. Dusty needs to be fired if he doesn't start a beanball war tommorrow after AJ Palphabetsoup and Ozzie's comments after the game.
  23. I don't think it's any big deal. Baseball needs to be like hockey and allow fighting and beaning players and it'd be a lot more exciting.
  24. Because he's a AAAA player from our farm system, so people overhype him up like crazy.
  25. Maddux for Cano sounds pretty good to me.
