  1. what teams have all the pieces to the puzzle? none. even the top teams are looking to improve in some aspect of their game. although good teams look for that last one or two pieces, we seems to need more than a few. honestly, did anyone expect CPat to tank like he did? I can see the hole in LF and the bullpen...maybe another starter to cover for Wood's eventual DL stint, but beyond that, we looked good on paper going into the season.
  2. *points at Biggio and laughs*
  3. if we can get him, we should? one player doesn't make a baseball team. i'd love Manny for a reasonable price, but that isn't going to happen. great offensive player, monster contract. would you rather have Manny in LF or decent players all over the OF and some help in the pen? what do you think benefits a team more?
  4. those numbers more than make up for his slightly below average D. honestly, i thought he was going to be much worse defensively (based on other people's bad mouthing off his defensive game) than he is. what second baseman is out there right now that could give us his offensive production for a similar price (assuming we pick up his option for next year)? it's ok to bash the guy, but i haven't heard any realistic options for next year's starting 2B man. i hear some people clamoring for soriano. he is a butcher in the field and his added offensive production doesn't justify the increase in money spent at that position, especially when we have so many other holes to fill.
  5. pitch counts don't mean a whole lot. laboring matters, not pitch counts.
  6. I actually don't mind Macias coming in when we're leading by 10. that's the only time he should come in.
  7. What will he get or what is he worth?
  8. Furcal is a legit leadoff hitter, which we need very badly. I'm not sure that is worth the difference in Cedeno and Furcal's salaries though. What do we do with Cedeno if Furcal comes our way? Let him rot on the bench or have another career year in AAA?
  9. McClain was not on the 40 man. He took Lawton's spot. I don't think the organization shares your opinion of JVB. Neither do I. I think that JVB is another "smoke and mirrors" type of pitcher like JoBo and many a japanese pitcher was. He is the type to rely on deception and movement to get him by and if either of those things go by the wayside then he is very hittable. well, deception and movement are what make a pitcher fool hitters, along with changing speeds and command. 2 out of 4 ain't bad. that said, i haven't seen much of JVB, so i have no clue what he is capable of...just saying that deception and movement count for a lot.
  10. Baker always has an excuse handy when it comes to not playing the younger guys. Hopefully he sees the light.
  11. Because people dont want to admit what has become reality. Prior and Wood are not that good.....even when healthy. Last year Prior's problems were injuries (according to many). This year...injuries again. He's been healthy awhile .....and not all that good. Im not saying he's bad....but I dont think he's going to be a Clemens or a Maddux. The Cubs were banking on the rotation of Wood,Prior,Z,Maddux and whoever else to lead them to the promised land. THey firgured they could get by with mediocre offense. If the starters were great.....it might have worked. THe plan has failed. Better come up with a new idea. Banking on Wood and Prior is not going to work. Unless they admit that to themselves...we are in for a few more years of watching Wood get hurt and Prior not live up to his hype (and also probably get hurt). all i can say is, wow.
  12. pierre steals 2B. good throw from barrett. hmm, 1-0 :x
  13. you can't start young 'uns during the early part of the season b/c you're still in it. you can't start young uns during a playoff race b/c they don't have the experience and you can't start them after you're out of the race b/c the guys that have busted their butts to put you out of contention deserve playing time.
  14. The Sosa deal looks better every day. :D
  15. I won't cry if it is Berg (which seems likely). Dubois traded for a month of Lawton (at least Hendry tried) and a decent looking young arm. Does anyone really think Dubois had what it took to contribute as a starter in Chicago? He was a nice guy, but man was he a butcher in the field. We take an older prospect out of our farm system who wasn't going to get it done in the NL and get a young pitcher we can develop.
  16. good inning Williamson. man, i hope Williamson's stuff comes back in the offseason.
  17. someone left Vargas in a little too long. i'm glad Dusty isn't the only manager who does this. :D
  18. awesome. let's have another year of this wonderful team. don't change a thing, Hendry.
  19. barrett is pretty solid. the only thing i don't like about his D is his blocking. he could be a lot better with practice. blanco can show him the right way to do it...and barrett is a lot better defensively this year over last year.
