  1. seriously, what is dusty thinking? :? is there some master plan that i'm just not in on? are there cosmic baseball forces at work that i just can't grasp?
  2. yeah!!!!!!!!!!! good job Dempster, despite your team sabotaging you.
  3. no wonder we didn't even come close to making the playoffs. that's ridiculous.
  4. come on barrett. baseball 101 stuff. BLEEEEEEPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. IIRC, we had some vets in Remlinger and Hawkins who loved the mistake pitch so much they threw one almost every outting. ok, i'm exagerating, but young guys aren't the only ones making mistakes on the mound.
  6. Cards. If Neifi goes to the Cards and does well, I may lose hope and interest in the game of baseball. :-k Are we talking about the same Nefti Perez who couldn't hit in COORS FIELD? John Rodriguez.
  7. Rusch is a keeper. Neifi...don't let the door hit you where the Good Lord split you.
  8. why? ...defense and elbow injury. '05 prior isn't as dominant as the '03 prior though. he's welcome back any time. prior is the better pitcher even by this year's numbers only. his WHIP, K/9, K/BB, and AVG are better than Harang's. harang does have less BB/9, which seems to be Prior's issue this year. he nibbles early in the game and ends up running up the pitch count (laboring pretty heavy early on) in the first two innings. he just needs to man up and put it over the plate. his stuff is good enough to get away with it.
  9. When has everything ever worked out for the Cubs? It is technically possible, but I'd have to agree with BP that their chances of making it are about 1%. 0.72791% as of this morning. it's actually worth dropping a 20 on the cubs to make the playoffs.
  10. Dempster = beast Nice managing again, Dustbag. The team pulls one out despite your meddling.
  11. thank you macias and patterson. you're both worthless.
  12. great ab from macias. i expect nothing less from our stud off the bench.
  13. No time to teach fundamentals in the Majors, that's the fault of the Minor League coaches and instructors Well, speaking as a catcher, I'm pretty good at blocking. However, if the ball took a nasty hop like that second one did, I'm not sure I would have got the ball either. true. that was a tough one, but it is a huge flaw in barrett's game. if he fixes that, i'd consider him solid defensively. oh boy, my hero macias is up.
  14. Farns went to a place where there was little pressure (Detroit) and got his act together. We saw flashes of it in Chicago...it's no surprise that he's figured it out. Letting Borowski go was a bad decision, IMO. We gave up on him too quickly. Oh well. That stuff happens all the time to even the best of GMs and scouts. I'm not so worried about what we gave up...not so much. It's what we've acquired in the last year that worries me...we got nothin'.
  15. why on earth is barrett so bad at blocking balls in the dirt? it's such a fixable flaw. :?
  16. did you see neifi almost miss 1b? hahaha sorry hawkins. :D
  17. Who's in CF? I'd probably use Hairston, Patterson, or another stop gap player like Lofton until Pie is ready to contribute. Murton has a weak arm and shouldn't even sniff RF.
  18. Cedeno's .583 OBP ain't too shabby, either. Dusty has a valid reason for not starting Cedeno today (that's a first).
  19. Notice how we don't seem to be in the running for Giles or Burnett (according to that paper, anyway). Fixing all our holes via FA is not feasible. IMO, one or two players should definitely be had from the FA market, even if we have to overpay ($/production). It's nice to see that thinking about Furcal in Cubbie blue isn't a pipe dream of Cubs' fans. :)
  20. Nomar has been very error prone learning a new position (3B). I think that will go away with time since he's a great athlete, but the super-utility role does really lend itself to that sort of learning curve.
  21. you got IP and strikes right!! correct strikes, and only 1/3IP and 3 balls to many! Wow. Move over Ms. Cleo.
  22. It's not about pitch counts. Laboring is what matters, not pitch counts. If prior feels good, let him go for it.
