  1. Hey, Fred, what is Nomar batting since coming back from the DL? He must be well above .300, right?
  2. it's b/c cedeno hasn't proven himself.
  3. why is hairston playing instead of murton? anyone? anyone?
  4. nil - nil after one. good job, maddux.
  5. gave it a decent ride, but nothin' doin'.
  6. Why did we call up a catcher? :?
  7. Are you talking about the foul ball he hit off his toe? The x-rays were negative and he's listed as day to day.
  8. It's a mistake the first time it happens (this is generous...fundamentals...major leagues...hmm). After that, the blame is all on Dusty and the player who goofed up...Dusty for not properly stressing what needs to be stressed and the player for not executing.
  9. hey, holly is batting .400 in 15 ABs against Pittsburg. I feel a win coming on.
  10. Actually I think I read something today or yesterday that said the deal almost died because Minaya didn't want Murton, so Hendry gave him Harris and took Murton instead. Another thread referenced a BP chat, I think, that worded the transaction a little odd. I am relying on what I remember from remarks made by both Epstein and Hendry. Hendry at one point provided a detailed account of how the day unfolded. Hendry said there would be no deal unless they threw in Murton. No Murton, no deal. That push came from Hendry, not Epstein or any of the other GMs involved in the trade.
  11. It's one thing to have an us vs. everyone else mentality and another to whine about the comments of outsiders. Hopefully Walker's comment was taken out of context and isn't the same sort of whining that the 2004 Cubs (and the 2005 White Sox) are famous for.
  12. Anyone who urinates on his hands has no place on my team. Kerry Wood tried it.
  13. hill has gone a long way this year. i wish they'd give him another shot at the bigs this year. plz. plz. plz!!!!!!!!!!
  14. good point. that team is full of whiners lately (like the 2004 cubs team). you don't need to dole out blame, you need to win games. negativity doesn't stop losing skids...quite the opposite.
  15. The talent is there. It's going to take a different set of coaches telling him the same stuff he's already heard from our coaches. A change of scenery will probably set him straight. We'll sell low and he'll go on to dominate for another team. There's no way around it now. We've done just about everything we can and can't waste another season putting up with his plate troubles.
  16. I like his defense too. If the Cubs had a Manny Ramirez type player in LF and Baker used Burnitz right...it could have worked. Man. I'd swear it was Sutcliffe that talked about Burnys D. Sutcliffe did talk about Burnitz's D in RF. He said it was the best he's seen in Wrigley other than Dawson. Bob may have said something too, but i definitely heard Sut say that. You're not going crazy.
  17. prior gives up 1 in the second. thanks to Kent's beautiful baserunning, it was only one. :D
  18. Baker deserves to be fired for this alone. Pathetic. As much as I dislike Baker, this was probably Wood's doing. You know he is a competitor and pitching out of the pen doesn't hurt his arm (doesn't throw enough pitches to feel abnormal pain in his shoulder). I can just see Wood angling for another appearance after a disappointing season. Could you really turn him down if you're Dusty? The chances of Wood hurting himself any further than he already is are about nil.
  19. at least we'll get a decent draft pick.
  20. Does anyone realize that if we give the starting SS job to Cedeno and he tanks, we're looking at another year of Neifi in the starters role? Face it; we haven't seen enough of Ronny to tell if he can get it done at this level. Dubois got it done in AAA and stunk it up in major league ball. I realize they play different positions and are completely different types of players...just trying to illustrate that production at lower levels doesn't always translate to the next level. We need a backup plan in case Cedeno gets the starting job out of ST and tanks. Neifi shouldn't be it. He is not starter quality...especially on a team with a $100M payroll.
  21. hahaha, well, if you're going to dream...
  22. the ESPN announcers are talking like Nomar is gone at the end of this season. man, he can swing the bat. i wish we had a place to put him. ARam at 3B and Cedeno at SS leaves no room for a often hurt nomar.
  23. Neifi had a 13 pitch at-bat earlier this year. That's surprising, but it's very exceptional. The only non-pitcher on the Cubs with a lower p/pa ratio is Adam Greenberg, and it's not really fair to blame him for his 1.0 p/pa. Neifi has the fifth lowest p/pa in the majors among qualified batters. It is possible to be successful having that kind of approach at the plate, but you have to be a freak like Vlad Guerrero (one of 4 players in the majors who sees fewer pitches than Neifi). Blame Adam? If I remember correctly, he did manage to get a runner on first with that AB. Neifi is horrible. He swings and fouls off the bad pitches and watches the good ones go right over the plate. It's ridiculous.
