  1. If Nomar is willing to play OF, here's what I'd like to see: C Barrett 1B DLee 2B Cedeno SS Furcal 3B Ramirez LF Nomar CF Patterson/Other RF Giles/Other trade Murton and Walker for BP help.
  2. Hi Len! Thanks for doing this Q&A with us. :D Do you think Nomar could/would make the transition to the OF from SS? Is Ronny Cedeno a legitimate starter in the big leagues? Are you and Bob going to do a game from the bleachers like Harry (in bleachers) and Stone (up in the booth) used to do? Thanks again! Enjoy the rest of the season and many more to come in Chicago.
  3. Hoops- I agree, but I'll be awfully disapointed if we sign Damon. He'll be a guy everyone is complaining about 3-4 years from the signing, wondering why Hendry spent $30M on his .240/.320/.375 line when he's 41 years old and rotting in CF. I'd imagine Damon resigns with Boston or ends up with the Angels or Yankees (who are absolutely desparate for a decent CFer). He won't get the years he wants from Hendry. But for the sake of argument, I'd be disappointed as well if we signed Damon. He doesn't fit in our long range plans with Pie coming up in the next couple of years. We have bigger fish to fry.
  4. if dusty keeps starting the rookies, we'll at least have a chance to pull off a miracle.
  5. for people to slam "steroids" in general is ridiculous. a line needs to be drawn between using steroids for performance enhancing reasons and medical ones. using steroids to repair muscular damage (or to help fight the effects of arthritis) is a valid medical use. if he wasn't an athlete, no one would have a problem with what he did. it doesn't enhance his performance, only helps repair his body. notice that a doctor prescribed his use of steroids. it's a fairly common occurance. MLB's steroid policy is a joke. it punishes the wrong people...those poorer athletes who can't afford designer drugs and advanced masking agents and it lets the big time offenders (who pollute baseball) go. the punishments aren't harsh enough for the performance enhancing users and are too black/white for different cases. Rules may be rules, but when has the word "rule" been synonymous with the deliniation between right and wrong?
  6. if we use greenberg as a stopgap in CF, we'd better have the other OF positions nailed down with solid obp guys.
  7. Why would we want him? I don't see a whole lot of potential in him, or improvement in his numbers, year to year...but that's just from a quick glance at his stats. I've never seen him pitch.
  8. Lowry is a lefty, so the odds are good Murton will start.
  9. How many more errors is our infield going to have w/o DLee? I'd pencil in just Aramis for 10+ more easy.
  10. natural physical ability has gotten most of them to their current position...not intelligence or dedicated focus on the mental aspects of the game. i've seen little leaguers play better fundamental baseball than the cubs.
  11. Well, I hate to stick up for Baker...but we did go to the playoffs in '03 and it was ridiculous that we didn't go in '04 (i blame that on the players...baker didn't make them choke). This year has been horrible though. He shouldn't get the boot for one bad year, but he certainly shouldn't get an extension for the way his team has performed this year. The talent was there even with the injuries, to finish above .500.
  12. the Yankees fans are worse. at least Cards fans know something about the game. that curtain call was pretty lame though. they love their Poo-holes there. i was talking about the curtain call for Edmonds, who K'ed 3 times vs. Prior and then hit a solo shot (with the game all but decided) off a reliever. Pujols deserved a curtain call. That was clutch.
  13. i love the shot of Edmonds hugging Walker. soooo cute.
  14. the players will just have to win in spite of dusty.
  15. the Yankees fans are worse. at least Cards fans know something about the game. that curtain call was pretty lame though.
  16. and that pretty much sums up the season. let the beatings continue.
  17. if DLee could get people on base in front of him, it wouldn't even be close. oh well, another "if" statement for this year. :( nice job by Pujols clobbering a hanging breaking ball right over the middle. if someone's going to throw garbage, make 'em pay.
  18. gotta love that BB/9...and it just went up. #-o
  19. yup. i have a feeling LaRussa could be hammered and still outcoach Dusty.
  20. hahaha, no one even cares if Hairston was hurt by the HBP.
  21. solid inning from Wuertz. Why is his ERA so high? too many BB?
