  1. They did it in 2003. Not exactly. We bailed them out of one, so to speak. They were in danger of not being able to make payroll at some point DURING THE SEASON. They wanted to trade Kris Benson's 6 mil salary but couldn't because he got hurt, so they had to trade Aramis. Aramis could have been dealt elsewhere. Any number of contenders would have taken him if the Pirates were so desperate to unload salary. Instead, we had a rather large hole at 3B and the Pirates let us fill it. what teams had a hole at 3B and money to burn at that time in the season?
  2. I agree with your assessment. Hendry basically had his pick of poor decisions to make. He made the least worse decision he could.
  3. They did it in 2003. 2003 was a firesale. Aramis wasn't even supposed to leave until the dude they were going to trade went on the DL. The pirates were forced into trading Aramis. We just happened to be there with money to spend and a 3B hole to fill. They were also well out of the race at that time. That's not the case here. What does 2003 have in common with 2006 as far as the Pirates are concerned? Next to nothing that I see.
  4. Let's at least trade rich hill for a healthy player - and one that has a reasonable chance of staying healthy in the future.
  5. Why would a division rival bail us out of a huge hole?
  6. The problem with wrist injuries is that they linger. This is a lot bigger than some 2-3 month DL stint.
  7. So why did we just pay Lee $65M?
  8. we're really stretching for a reason to be happy here, aren't we?
  9. Ronny's on pace for 45+ errors this season. With DLee out, he's going to need to really improve on his throws. I love the offense, but we're going to need stellar D to have a chance with Lee out. We won't have the offense to overcome mistakes in the field.
  10. hey, look at the bright side. cedeno isn't in danger of neifi taking his spot any more. 8)
  11. that's the best idea i've heard so far.
  12. I think Pie and Prior could get either of those right now. Why would you deal Prior to a team trying to keep payroll low (Florida)? You don't deal a guy like Prior within your own division (or Dunn). That doesn't help our team. At best we come out even.
  13. you can win with a 60M payroll. it's not about money, although it helps. it's organizational philosophy that wins divisions and gives you a chance in the playoffs, which is a crapshoot.
  14. it's like a hit and run, but the runner is just going and the batter doesn't protect.
