  1. thanks for the info on the conference call. :) Welcome to the Chicago Cubs, Mr. Pierre.
  2. well, neifi is starting, so we're not overpaying.
  3. Is he really that offensive to Hendry's plans that we can't find a spot for him to play SOMEWHERE?! His bat really came alive when he got back from his injury, and didn't seem to be the negative guy that the Red Sox media machine made him out to be. Hendry has said numerous times that if Nomar was willing to play OF he would be signed already. It looks like he wants to be a SS or at least an infielder, and there's no room for him here. which runs contrary to all other reports that nomar's agent has stated that nomar would play anywhere on the field agent's are full of it. Kinzer said the same about Furcal.
  4. he doesn't have to say things that are laughably false. how many words are there in the English language? I'm sure he can string enough of them together w/o flat out BSing us.
  5. So Pierre was the only option available? Wilkerson, Bradley, and Castillo were/are available. When would Pinto and Nolasco get their shot? 1-3 years. It's not giving up prospects that is the problem. It's what we gave up in relation to Pierre's value, who is a FA after next season.
  6. I asked this in another thread and it never really got answered. Is it just common knowledge that Pierre is not a good centerfielder? I've never heard anyone speak bad of his defense before all the Pierre to the cubs talk started. Is he considered worse than Patterson in center? I'm asking because i honestly thought he was considered a good CF. I've always known about the weak arm but have never heard all of this talk about bad routes and late jumps. Wher is the information coming from? And who does he compare to defensively in CF? "Baseball" men who know "the game" think Slappy is a good defender because after all, a Center Fielder has to have good speed. Peirre has great speed and that saves him from tottaly screwing up. He will take a bad angle but make up for it somewhat with his speed. He will break late but make it up with his speed. But he will also not get to some balls because his speed cannot always overcome his judgement. He has a very weak arm, even for a centerfielder. All and all he is a medicore defensive centerfielder in my estimation. He is neither bad nor good. But if he is hobbled in any way he will immediately become a bad defensive centerfielder. Slappy is a one trick pony. All speed. His entire worth is tied up in his foot speed. I am not trying to disagree with you or pick a fight, because like the OP I don't know, but what is that assesment based on? Is there a scouting report somewhere or this based on your eyewitness accounts. Here's the Scouts Inc. scouting report that ESPN attaches to every player's page, so take it for what it's worth: "His defense remains a huge plus at spacious Pro Player Stadium. His range allowed the Marlins to get by with Miguel Cabrera and Jeff Conine flanking him for the first four months. Pierre's arm probably precludes him from Gold Glove consideration, but he never gives up on balls in the gap and makes his share of highlight catches. His resemblance to a young Mickey Rivers remains eerie." hmm, who's opinion is more valid- professional scouts or guy on a message board... are you kidding me? those espn scouting reports are crap. but hey, if you'd rather take someone's opinion rather than thinking for yourself, more power to ya. you'll get all the pierre you can handle this season. i really doubt you'll be saying the same after 162 games.
  7. I heard the interview and this is not what Nightengale said. What he said was that the Mets needed a third team to do any deal for Manny. He then said that if the Mets got Manny and still had Cliff Floyd that the Cubs would probably want to trade for Floyd. He never said anything about the Cubs being in a three-way deal involving Manny. thank you! thank you! thank you!
  8. If that prospect is murton, I'm going to kill someone.
  9. Pittsburgh trading Duke... I know, I know........But do you remember Aramis? You just never know with the Bucs. duke is making the league minimum. but yeah, wilson stinks.
  10. he played good D and had a good 1st half at the plate. his 2nd half was ridiculously bad. he's a quality dude, but i'd rather have someone else.
  11. I'm honestly starting to doubt whether Murton starts. It's a pretty limited pool when you talk about lefty power bats that can play RF competently and that's all Hendry talks about with OF that aren't leadoff hitters. How do you squeeze a lefty power bat in there? you certainly aren't going to get him at SS or 2B (that can also "catch the ball"). The sooner Baker is gone, the better. Does he ever take responsibility for anything?
  12. if neifi doesn't hit in the 2 hole, this could work out well. *prays*
  13. And paid high. haha, i know. i'm just trying to make this less painfull. i hope we get jack wilson. then this offseason will really rock. I can't believe I thought well of Jack Wilson until someone recently enlightened me. He's been around longer than I thought, I thought last year was his second year for some reason. Jack Wilson would be a servicable MIF backup, that's it, but we already have that, in Neifi. what? that .650 OPS isn't sexy enough for you?

  15. Interesting that you want proven power, but you also say no to a guy with 303 career HR's... Sammy has 588 career HR. Should we bring him back? I'm just trying to point out that career HR might not be the best measurement stick to use. Apples to oranges. Sammy is obviously at the end of his career and showed signs that he would not be able to hit a watermelon. Shawn Green has been extremely consistent over the years. His power numbers have dipped a bit, but he could still be counted on for 20-30 easily. Apples to oranges? No, I just stated by example that career HR aren't the best indicator of power going into next season. Green is pretty decent, but I'd like to see us go younger. He will most likely put up around .800-.830 OPS next season. That's not too shabby and will put him middle of the pack in qualified NL RF (behind the likes of Abreu, Giles, Jenkins).
  16. i haven't heard hendry mention walker when he talks about the 2006 infield. not once.
