  1. I could see the Cards signing him if Gruz gets too expensive.
  2. no, it really isn't... Yeah, that is crazy talk.
  3. Comeon Jehrico tell us how you really feel about Bobby V.
  4. I think it's more due to bunting and being able to move the runners over.
  5. Stl Today Please sign Jacque Jones. Please sign Jacque Jones. I just puked in my mouth.
  6. I respect your opinion Cardsfan, would you sign a shortstop for that money, especially if you were in the Cubs situation? Consider that the Cubs are competing with the White Sox and have to please the fans now. No way if I were the Cubs would I pay that. I just noticed posts to the effect of "His agent is crazy if he thinks hes getting that kind of money". I don't think he's crazy at all. One other thought - ER was a better free agent then Furcal. Even though the Cubs don't have anyone playing shortstop/ leading off? What would your solution be if you were Jim Hendry? Wow, I feel evil playing the Cubs GM but here we go... Fire Dusty Sign Giles - 3/30ish Play Ronny Cedeno at SS (although, I would be tempted to get Lugo depending on the price). Play Murton. Trade for Bradley. Keep Walker. Line up in order: Walker - 2B Giles - RF Lee - 1B Ramirez - 3B Bradley - CF Murton - LF Barrett - C Cedeno - SS Save 3-5m for midseason pickups as insurance for injuries or player ineffectiveness (I bet RC, Murton or Demp will disappoint). Spend the rest on relief or starting pitching depending where the better deals are. Oh and trade Z, Prior and cash to the Cards for John Gall.

  8. If Edgar Renteria got 4-40 is 5-50 really that crazy? Honestly before this post I figured he would get something like 4-42.
  9. I'm not surprised. I think GM's value him as much as Edgar Renteria and it's a tighter FA market. I bet he gets close to 5-50.
  10. that baffles me. look at their attendance records and compare them to the cubs (and the cubs payroll). something doesn't add up. The Cubs are making a lot of money and the SOX aren't.
  11. NL SP VORP: 1. Roger Clemens - 80.6 2. Andy Pettitte - 72.4 3. Chris Carpenter - 68.4 4. Dontrelle Willis - 68.1 5. Pedro Martinez - 66.1 6. Roy Oswalt - 65.4 7. John Smoltz - 60.0 8. Jake Peavy - 56.4 9. John Patterson - 53.5 (I really overlooked this guy) 10. Carlos Zambrano - 51.0 Man, HOU had 3 of the top 6! http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/sortable/index.php?cid=832
  12. I understanding everyone's point about Carp not being deserving however: \:D/ =D> Congrats to Carp!
  13. Yeah, but you offered isn't even close to what he got for the other 2. He's getting two aging players and one nice but not great prospect. I don't think what you offered would even get Zito. Beane likes young and cheap players.
  14. Considering what Beane got for Mulder and Hudson I really doubt that would get it done.
  15. I think they're just doing jobs. Do I like the guys? No, but overall they do a great job of getting lots of $ for their guys.
  16. Are you talking about Baldeli? He is like 23. He will only get better. Good because as it stands he's mediocre. He's 24 and his numbers haven't really improved. I'm not saying he's horrible but he's not worth this kind of commitment.
  17. I can live with those choices.
  18. BTW, that's a mediocre signing by the d-rays. The guy has a career .326 OBP.
  19. Enjoy... http://baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=4593
  20. Who are the Cards going to trade for Giles? The stud AAA pitchers didn't fare to well this year. And the system otherwise is barren of talent. Funny how we hear the same old record every year. The Cardinals don't have any talent to trade.... What? They just traded for _________. I'm not saying that the Cards have the richest farm system in the majors, far from it, but Walt seems to make things happen with what they do have. You still have not answered my question. Here's a summary of the Cards minors according to BP. We have talent to trade however I doubt we'll trade for Giles... http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=4541
  21. Dusty will take a tire iron to Cedeno's knee if that's what it takes to get Neifi in to the lineup.
  22. Who are the Cards going to trade for Giles? The stud AAA pitchers didn't fare to well this year. And the system otherwise is barren of talent. I didn't say that, I don't think we'll go after BOTH of those guys. First, we don't have the $ and 2nd I think the Cards are looking to upgrade their pitching.
