  1. You'll still lose by one after we score two this inning. you didn't let me finish, followed by a rolen 9 run bomb.
  2. I fully expect a 7 run bomb by AP in the 9th.
  3. If this statement shows up over there, attributed to you, they will skewer you, thereby proving your point. Oh, the irony of it all..... I've moved on to greener pastures. There is a new Cardinal board that actually talks Baseball! Imagine that. The Best Fans In Baseball deserve that ;)
  4. That was like a punch to the gut!
  5. This is highly unlikely. Look, my point isn't to dis Cub prospects however Felix Hernandez is more heralded prospect than Prior ever was - he's that amazing. While Felilx is indeed a great prospect, I think you are overstating his case a tad. I haven't seen reports saying he's that much better than what Prior was. A recent BP article pegged Felix as the best pitching prospect in the last 20 years. Yeah, he's more hyped than Prior. BP also hyped Brendan Harris as the next Albert Pujols. I'm just saying... No doubt Felix will be great if he remains healthy. But with prospects, the next best thing always seems to be considered the best prospect ever. Prior at the time was said by many to be the BEST pitching prospect to ever be drafted...and the best college pitcher ever. I don't see how the superlatives could get any higher for Felix. Many believe Felix is a better prospect than Prior was because of rookie age and peripherals.
  6. This is highly unlikely. Look, my point isn't to dis Cub prospects however Felix Hernandez is more heralded prospect than Prior ever was - he's that amazing. How do you figure thatit's unlikely that the cream of our farm system may produce one all-star caliber player and maybe 2 everyday players? That includes what we could get for trades. i.e. Bobby Hill and Hee Seop Choi netted us two all-stars... I really wouldn't count on a trade like that happening again. The reason the Cubs were able to make those deal is they were willing to take on payroll when no one else was. Again, I would be shocked if those produce like you've stated.
  7. And not really "proven." There are lots of 20-year-old pitchers who don't reach their potential, due to injuries or other things (like Doc). Felix has a very high ceiling, but being a pitching prospect means he also comes with a great deal of risk. It's not like you're dealing all of those guys and getting a guarantee that he'll have a Clemens-type career rather than an injury-riddled one. True, I'm very leery of pitching prospects injuries wise however I think Felix's talent is too great not to do the deal. Think about where the organization would be after doing that trade. We'd have basically nothing in the system worth trading, and we'd be up one stud pitcher. It'd take years to get the system back, and the Cubs aren't one Felix Hernandez away from winning the pennant. If you were that committed to trading all those guys, you could probably get better value receiving multiple players in return. I guess it all comes down to how much you value Wuertz, Hill, Guzman, Pawelek, Pie, Harvey. Personally I don't think it's a very exciting bunch. I also disagree about getting better value with multiple players in return. Again, Felix is one of the greatest pitching prospects in the history of baseball. That said, I certainly understand your position. See Brian Taylor, JR Richard, etc. True, I understand the risks however Seattle won't allow him to pitch 240 innings or throw 120 pitches in a game. They are learning from the sins of the past.

  11. I agree. One superstar player is not a substitute for a quality team of players. Felix is good, but we would be mortgaging the teams future. To further put in perspective, we'd be giving up a pretty good reliever, plus the #1, 2, 4, 5, and 7 prospects in our system(BA rankings). No offense but the Cubs system isn't that strong with top end talent. Felix is in another world. Again, if I were the Cubs I'd take the risk and do it in a heartbeat.

  14. Mods please lock this thread because it's making me insanely jealous.
  15. Doesn't that depend on where in the order you want the player to bat? They both bat third. Let's say both players have 5 season in the majors. Player A has Mo Vaughn speed and is a station to station base runner. Player B has Juan Pierre speed. Player A's average and OBP dip considerably with runners on because he presses every AB with a man on trying to get the big hit and he strikes out a lot. Player B has his best numbers across the board with runners on. They play in similar parks with similar lineups. Can you offer an example real players like A and B who hit with runners on base like you just described consistently over the past 3 years? I don't think you can.
  16. Didn't the Cubs offer more money than the Braves but at that point Maddux was just fed up with Cub's front office?
  17. Player A - RBI and Runs are a team driven stat. What player would you rather pick up in the offseason?
  18. True, but a player does have some input i.e. Bruce Sutter. That said Maddux will go in as a Brave I'm sure.
  19. He's 4 of 24 with a walk since opening day. Then which of these are classified as bad games: 1 for 4 2 runs 2 SB 1 for 4 1 run 1 for 4 1 RBI 1 for 3 1 BB Getting on base 1 out of 4 times is awful.
  20. Because of the questions around Rolen's power returning I would have selected A-Ram going in to the season. However so far it looks like Rolen's power back *knock on wood* therefore I'd take Rolen for this year and next.
  21. Has Guzman's arbitration begun? If not that might be something to consider.
  22. They're not hitting against the Cardinals bullpen.... Hah!
