  1. To be fair there aren't any great choices of the Cards 2 spot.
  2. IIRC Edmonds getting plucked the 2nd time had more to do with Rolen's 3 run shot.
  3. Seriously, just looking at him makes me angry. Why couldn't we just give Reggie 2/10?? I mean, Spivey has a career .359 OBP, way better than Juan's .319. Why don't we hit Spivey 2nd and put Juan 6th where he belongs? If he's healhy Spivey can do "damage" and probably get on base more too. How did the Royals do the best in the LF sweapstakes this offseason?
  4. Juan Encarnacion is the bane of my existence.
  5. i'm assuming this is a shot at the typical response when a cardinal fan bashes zambrano, but this is nothing like that. z doesn't punch people in the face. this is ridiculous. tavarez is one of the most classless individuals to ever play this game. It was just a joke.
  6. I love his intensity.
  7. Hendry doesn't strike me as a fire sale kind of GM.
  8. Who will be playing for SF after Bonds & Alou get hurt? Even when they're active, does defense count here? :D If Edmonds gets hurt STL will have an awful OF.
  9. Back on topic, it looks a little bland but I'd rather have bland than cheesy. I’m embarrassed to admit the concessions and seat design are pretty important to me. edit - stuuupid post
  10. The stadium isn't even DONE yet. Maybe the 15 National League pennants and 9 World Series banners will give it "character"? What would give it more "character"? A mound in center field? A train track above the outfield? Ivy on the wall? A roof? A roller coaster in the bleacher section? No thanks. It's a baseball stadium, in it's purest form........ and is expected to be as comfortable as any stadium in baseball. That's fine, by me. What will give it character is the bestest most knowledgable fans in sports. :pukel: Soon to be followed by gay comments, fat jokes, and trailer trash remarks....... So predictable....... Oh shut up.
  11. No disrespect, however every year the Hendry tries to fix the bullpen without much success. The side effect of coarse is Dusty is “forced” to overwork his starters. I think it's one of his most overlooked failings.
  12. He's not fat, just big boned. http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20060320/capt.fljf11003200042.braves_cardinals_spring_baseball_fljf110.jpg
  13. Oh really... Sidney Ponson ERA+ last three years. 2003: 115 2004: 90 2005: 67 Jerome Williams 2003: 130 2004: 105 2005: 100 Comments: Williams best year is better than Ponson and even in his worst year, he was league average. Greg Maddux 2003: 105 2004: 113 2005: 101 Comments: Maddux is declining, but is still league average. Something Ponson has only accomplished once in the past three years. Glendon Rusch 2003: 68 2004: 131 2005: 94 Comments: Rusch sucks, and yet his worst year was still better than Ponson's worse year. "[expletive]'" horrible year came three years ago. Ponson's was in his most recent season. Rusch's best year was better than Ponson's best year, and Rusch's median year also was better than Ponson's median year. The only spot Ponson is likely to be better than the Cubs is against the emergency fifth starter. Even then, I'd rather go with Hill, Marshall, or Guzman over Ponson. His track record is that of a below average pitcher and a few spring performances doesn't change that. What Ponson has a decent chance or better than decent chance is to be a below average pitcher for a number of starts. He's likely to put up an ERA somewhere around 4.67-5.15. He has a "slim" chance of outperforming Rusch and the Cubs' fifth starter. He has almost no chance of outperforming 4/5 of the Cubs rotation. Saying so would be like me saying Jacque Jones has a decent chance of out performing the entire Cardinals hitters except Pujols. It could happen, but the chances of it are as about as likely as your statement about Ponson coming true. Well my comment sure got people riled up. :D Vance, you used a rate stat like OPS+ where as I used VORP. I used VORP because if nothing else Ponson as the ability to eat innnings (think Jeff Suppan). Beyond Z and Maddox (who's 40) I don't see anyone as a lock to get 30 starts since Wood, Prior and Millar will be coming back (and then leaving again?). My comment was a fun bit of hyperbole however it’s not totally inconceivable. As a side note, I looked up William's PECOTA card and I was shocked how bearish it was with a VORP of 6.9. Heck the fat bird even got a 11.1. edit - spelling
  14. Laugh it up, he has a decent chance to have a better VORP than all your starters expect Z.
  15. I'll be the first to admit I was completely wrong about the WBC, it was a great time.
  16. ok, i gotta say, your avatar really makes me question your sincerity...that damn red bird....   It's the Ball State Cardinal, not the St. Louis Cardinal, I assure you. Reference the Wrigley sign in my sig if you don't believe me. Dont be shy, it's a good lifestyle.
  17. Good point, I'm shocked Morgan didn't mention Barry Bonds.
  18. Pujols played SS in JC, and naturally didn't scout very well there. Didn't have the arm, the speed, or the quickness. Like a lot of guys, he was a prospect with no clear defensive position ahead of him, and basically scored badly on three of the five scouting tools (speed, defense, throwing arm). Still does, more or less. But if you can hit like Pujols, the hitting tool trumps all..... You basicaly nailed it however I would also like to add their were concerns about his weight and true age. He also had some weak battng sessions with scouts.
  19. The Nats are going to have a hard time finding a team to take on 10m.
  20. It's really a shame because Cincinnati is a great baseball town, they deserve better.
  21. Great post, I pretty much agree with everything.
  22. With Prior healthy, we could certainly get more that the likes of that for him. At what do you consider Prior a healthy pitcher? Off the DL? 10 starts? A full season? No current injuries. So just off the DL - I doubt Prior could fetch any of those guys.
