  1. Chirinos without a doubt. Koyie Hill has no business getting more PAs. If they want Castillo to get the time then give it to him, I just prefer Chirinos. Marquez Smith should be up as well. I understand wanting to reward the loyal filler but should that take precedence here?
  2. I have never been so upset at this organization and my god that is saying something.... Scales, Fuld and Snyder up when there are guys who could have a future with the team sitting on their hands. Why doesn't someone in the media start asking the right questions? There just isn't any excuse for this.
  3. Okay, what? Really? What does the organization gain from that lineup? Best lineup on the field? nope Giving ABs to important young players? no Trying to establish trade value for AAAA types? If I thought they had any reasoning this would be it but it's incredibly weak. What puts me over the top is Koyie Hill getting PAs over Chirinos and Castillo. I just cant even articulate how confusing this is.
  4. yeah my post wasn't worded as well as I thought. My apologies.
  5. Okay, no one else will do it, so I'm flying to Chicago to ask why in god's name Soto is hitting 8th. He has been more productive than Adam Dunn Adrian Gonzalez Matt Holliday Evan Longoria etc and he's hitting 8th for the 59-77 Chicago Cubs. What is going on, and why is no one asking them?
  6. Good lord, of course I would rather have a RH .400 wOBA than a LH .360. If the numbers are the same, we could use the LH, that's all I'm saying. Throw in the fact that the LH in this case produces more and costs no prospects and it seems to be a no-brainer, even if he is older. His skill set isn't as likely to decline as some. I can't believe I'm having to argue this side after all the debate a few years ago. I am very aware that handedness is of very little importance and it should never outweigh production. That doesn't mean it is completely irrelevant.
  7. Speaking of splits, CarGos are lol. 1.226 OPS at Coors, .729 on the road.
  8. Yeah, he could easily improve, but it's not like he needs to fill out. He's not a major candidate to add power. And his Home/Road splits are identical.
  9. Some LH power actually should be a priority for the team this year. We have the perfect position at which to fill both, and Butler provides neither. Dunn at 3/30 >>>>>>>> giving up prospects for Billy Butler. The Royals will want Archer +. For a middle of the pack 1B ( 13th out of 26 in wOBA)? No thanks.
  10. Soto is already our best hitter. Soto. Though Fuku is close. If you use wOBA to determine production at the plate (and there's no reason you shouldn't) Geovany Soto has been the 13th best hitter in baseball (min 330 PA). And he hits 8th on one of the worst teams in the league.
  11. Taking one of the best hitters in all of baseball this year and hitting him 8th fairly consistently probably hurt the team. I can't imagine Fredi letting that continue.
  12. Just organizational, as Koyie Hill getting ABs does the Chicago Cubs no good. When you consider that Chirinos has the ability to be a fantastic backup C it hurts even more.
  13. lol @ ESPN yet again. They have a "Rank 'Em: MLB Rookies" with 14 different choices. Starlin isn't one of them.
  14. Yet it's Cashner in the pen. BTW, I am secure aboard the Chirinos bandwagon. I know he's moved slowly, but he has been good for a few years and what he's doing now is nothing short of incredible. A Pujolsesque 38/44 K/BB? While hitting for power? And playing great defense? Ridiculous.
  15. Considering our top pitching prospect will finally become a full time starter at age 25, it looks pretty terrible.
  16. I was thinking more along the lines of Greinke.
  17. Nah, it was in April when Castro was still in AA. Just threw that name in as a little jab at that particular guy (if it was indeed on NSBB...) ;-).
  18. one of these kids just doesn't belong... though, Jay Bruce hasn't exactly lived up to the hype either. That's an impressive list, but the inclusion of Bruce and Stewart is strange. Couldn't remember if it was here or another board I frequent, but someone told me the cubs don't have a prospect the caliber of Ian Stewart.
  19. The Royals could very well covet someone like Colvin.....................
  20. Castro is out OPSing ARod Justin Upton Lance Berkman Ryan Braun Nick Markakis Chipper Jones Jay Bruce Mark Reynolds Ian Stewart Jason Bay Jose Reyes While playing SS at age 20.
  21. Okay, my last post on this subject. Sorry for the derail. I think that Starlin Castro has to have more trade value than all but a few players in MLB. I imagine he would fetch an incredible return. Again, I do NOT want to trade him (I would advocate trading Lee in this case) and I'm aware that discussing this is premature, but I'm really curious as to why so many of you could care less about moving him from the most valuable spot on the field even if he becomes an elite defender there. It much easier to go out and grab a Kelly Johnson than it is a Hanley Ramirez. Do you also feel that the Yankees keeping Jeter at SS over ARod was the right move? What if ARod hadn't "bulked" up? It's not the best analogy because the Yankees can buy production wherever and whenever, and Jeter was never the defender than Starlin could be, but still... If Hak-Ju Lee hits his ceiling defensively and comes up completely raking then by all means move Starlin over. I just hate to see a 70 glove 80 bat replaced by an 80 glove 50 bat.
  22. Soto is dealing with an injury, and the season is over. The more Koyie Hill, the better at this point. You realize we have Robinson Chirinos, who is putting up ridiculous numbers at AA and is the best defensive catcher in the Southern League, and Castillo who is already up, right?
  23. I guess I don't understand what is confusing. I don't WANT to trade Starlin Castro, but I'd rather have the package he would net than an .800 OPS 2nd baseman.
  24. It's not about maximizing an individual's value. If the Cubs are better off with Lee (or whomever) at SS and Castro at 2B rather than vice-versa, you go with it. I disagree. I think trading Castro for a king's ransom is better than making him a slightly above average 2nd baseman. Can we stop talking about trading Castro after he's played 80 games for the Cubs? It sounds completely ridiculous. We're talking about player value. Of course I don't want to trade Starlin Castro.
  25. Castro is not infinitely more valuable at SS when the premise is that both he and Lee are in the Cubs' lineup at the same time. At that point the only consideration is what defensive positioning is most effective. (Unless you want to venture into a highly nebulous area involving how each guy's hitting is impacted by the position he's playing.) Just seems that a very good defensive SS with x production could net a very good defensive 2nd baseman with x production + more in a trade.
