  1. On a per minute basis, Omer is one of the top 5 defenders in the league. His rebounding rate is elite. How much he declines if given 25 minutes remains to be seen, but his skillset is extremely valuable.
  2. For all his faults, Kosuke still has the 14th best OBP in the league. I'll miss him.
  3. Ugh, Comcast not having WGN is driving me insane. MLB EI has a free preview but it's this horrible new ROOT Pirates broadcast.
  4. Exactly. And the Cubs will only be paying Garza $5-6 million for this coming season with the likelihood of it going up into 10 million and higher for the following two seasons. Yeah, as I've said for this trade to make sense Garza has to continue his production from Tampa at a minimum and probably improve upon it. I would feel that way if the trade was for Archer alone. There is a small chance Chirinos or Guyer goes Casey McGehee and a better chance that Lee's bat develops. If one of those things happen, the trade becomes pretty lopsided even if Garza keeps outpitching his xFIP.
  5. After hearing Lou's comments to Trammel about Theriot, I'd love to hear him as a color man.
  6. Unfortunately, Hendry's hands have to be completely tied right now. No money to spend and with Ricketts stressing the development of the farm, there is no way he'll let Jim pay the price for Adrian.
  7. Pardon me if I missed this elsewhere, but on the same Waddle and Silvy show that gave us the Theriot quote above, we also get this gem from Ryan (recounting what Lou said to Trammell after Theriot missed a bunt attempt) Lou: Alan, hey Alan. What is this? We got a 2 hole hitter who can't hit home runs, can't lay down a bunt, doesn't steal bases and can't play defense. What is going on? It was time for Lou to go, but I gained a little respect back.
  8. Anyhow, wOBA Dunn .379 AGonz .378 Obviously a difference in age but how do you justify wiping the farm clean for one when the other is available in FA?
  9. I don't understand the desire to have him back. The "hot streak" has consisted of a bunch of singles and no walks. He has put up numbers similar to a down year from Ryan Theriot, and he is 31 and plays 1B. Pick a AAAA player and get the same production.
  10. And of all the players in the lineup it's got to be Colvin that suffers a freak injury.
  11. We hit them hard, it's too bad they catch the ball, though.
  12. Tulo's home/road splits are about what you'd expect. CarGo has a .764 OPS away and a 1.205 at Coors.
  13. I was, then I moved from Kansas to Seattle. :-(
  14. I was, then I moved from Kansas to Seattle. :-(
  15. Lol I haven't been quiet. Thank god there are now sites like Fangraphs that can call attention to things like this. Eventually organizations will all come around, though I sometimes wonder how long it will take.
  16. So based on this start, I'm guessing the cubs make him a middle reliever.
  17. They have had nearly the exact same offensive value this season.
  18. and still just a .760 OPS away from Coors.
  19. Castro would start every game possible over the next 10 years if I had my way and I would bear the children of Geovany Soto. I just think the organization gains nothing by giving Darwin Barney, Sam Fuld and Bobby Scales playing time. For those saying that Chirinos is of no value whatsoever in a trade, do you think the same of Kila Ka'aihue?
  20. Geovany Soto spent 3 years at Iowa before coming up at age 25. Chirinos is 26 and has put up ridiculous wOBAs the last 2 years including .428 this year. I'm not saying he is anywhere near the caliber of Geovany Soto but you can't tell me that no team would consider him a decent inclusion in a trade package. Obviously he isn't a centerpiece, but he has value.
  21. The lack of position player development is an approach that I don't agree with but at least I see the logic in focusing on high-ceiling pitching. I guess it just seems so incredibly standard for a team out of the race to give players like Chirinos (or Castillo) and Smith PAs, if only because a hot month might turn them into an auxiliary piece in a trade. Yet here are the Cubs, passing them over for the likes of Bobby Scales. Of course this isn't the most detrimental oversight the organization has made, it's just so basic in my mind.
  22. Really? I know he's 26 and has repeated levels but this is his 3rd very productive year in a row. It's not like I think he's a top prospect but he is certainly a better backup candidate than Koyie Hill. Do you really disagree?
