  1. Why have I heard the booth talk multiple times about how Leiter, Jr. has been clearly the Cubs best reliever? I've heard this conversation at least 3 times. Alzolay's numbers are better, excepting K-rate. At least concede that it is close. I haven't even heard Adbert's name come up in these conversations.
  2. I think Caissie is the only potential lineup anchor/superstar bat. He has to make the next adjustment but he has tons of time and he could make it at any moment. When/if he does, he's pretty much ready. PCA I'm guessing ends up a Dansby-type with his defense doing the heavy lifting on his high WAR. Great guys to have hitting sixth and seventh on a perennial contender. Brown will have success in MLB, but how much and in what role seems uncertain. Would love to see any and all upper-level, potential SLG guys get a major league shot in the 2nd half.
  3. That list is kind of nuts. I certainly did not expect Miles Mastrobuoni to have a higher FV than Matt Mervis.
  4. One silver lining is that selling doesn't necessarily have to mean tanking with this division. There is some immediate upside in giving Mervis, Velazquez, Ben Brown, Wicks, etc playing time.
  5. The 81 wRC+ is less than inspiring, even forgetting 1/2 the games are @ Coors.
  6. Sure, in the case of a highly competitive team, a guy needs to hit the ground running. The '23 Cubs, even the version that went into London on a high, should still be keeping one eye on player development, especially for guys with potential game-changing power (which they sorely lack). 99 PAs of good peripherals and bad numbers, with no good alternative knocking at the door, was not enough to pull the plug.
  7. Come on, Mervis had 99 PAs. 99. In that meager sample, he had a higher max EV than Rizzo, barreled a considerably higher % of balls (he barreled 2× as many as Madrigal has in his entire career), and had a much higher hard hit %. He wasn't given a real chance at all.
  8. If you can't get a monster return, Morel needs to stay. That kind of upside is no where else on the roster. Would also prefer to hang on to Alzolay. Building the pen from scratch every season is rough. 28 isn't young but it isn't old, either.
  9. Hope I'm wrong but this feels like it could get ugly. Walker is on a nice run and the Phillies seem like the wrong kind of lineup for Kyle.
  10. I'm going to be pretty irritated if they lose this one.
  11. Not important, but just curious. What are the member titles tied to here? I've been a member of the forum since the very beginning, but I see others are "old-timey" members while I am "verified"
  12. Really a shame we have nothing better than Madrigal here
  13. Wow, I thought that was season-ending for Amaya. The 2nd angle looked terrible.
  14. Come the horsefeathers on. This seems like it was so avoidable.
  15. Don't understand why Wesneski didn't start the 6th.
  16. Mervis has 0 to prove in AAA. He hits the ball hard af, has trouble with major league spin and needs time at this level to figure it out. They've basically decided Wisdom is the light side of a platoon, so let Morel play 3rd vs RH with Mervis at 1B and Belli or Tauchman at DH. Fire Mastro and Madrigal into the sun.
  17. I know playing match-ups (kind of) worked out last night, but there really is no need to treat this minor-league journeyman like prime Chris Sale. Just put the best lineup out there.
  18. Helping get the Pirates starter back on track with the Mastrobuoni/Madrigal/Barnhart 1-2-3 inning. God, that's 2011 bad.
