  1. FWIW, 91-93 the Braves were in the NL West, and in 1993, they beat out the Giants who won like 103 games, so it's not just the NL East. And when the divisions were realigned, you had the Marlins in 1997 who were scary good, the Mets in 1998 who were good, in 1999 the Mets won the w.c and went to the W.S., right? Then in 2003 the Marlins were good.
  2. Nomar. What do you expect from a healthy Nomar Tim? I see a 15 HR 280/320. I know you asked Tim, but don't you figure a healthy Nomar would be good for 25 HR? He has like 8 or 9 in the last month and a half alone... I have a feeling he will not hit that many but I'd be thrilled if he did....if he's a Cub that is. What do you see him doing number wise other than the 25HR's? I think Tim's line is pretty likely: .290-.300 avg, .340-.350 OBP.

  4. I'd rather spend Furcal money on Giles, so I'll go with Nomar for an incentive laden deal, and feel confortable having Cedeno ready to step in in the event Nomar's leg explodes again.
  5. Murton would be a tailor made 2 hole hitter, were it not for the manager of our team. Murton = 6 or 7 hitter in 06. That will probably be what happens, but Murton's skill set screams #2. Patience, decent power, hits to all fields, speed, doesn't try and pull the ball, etc. As UK said, the only problem is that he bats RH, but oh well. Agree. Wouldn't be surprised to see Murton traded. If that happens, CA, I think it would be proof positive of the stupidity of the Baker/Hendry team. If we're going to ditch a perfectly good, promising LF because of a percieved lack of power, then we deserve to suck.
  6. I don't see why speed should be a factor in who our leadoff hitter should be. It's not as if Baker is very aggressive on the basepaths.
  7. CubsWin, I personally feel that we should pick up Walker's option and deal him for some bullpen/bench help. I don't disagree with you, though, when you question Theriot's readiness to be a bench player. I think it's a fair question, but the best answer I could give is that if you are looking at backup middle IF's, you could have Theriot or Fontenot as your 25th man and they would likely give you the same net production as Macias would as your 25th man, for a fraction of the cost.

  10. Your post depressed me, goony.
  11. I might set that PA clause a bit higher, only because i view 2006 as Cedeno's apprentice year, starting in 30-50 games and getting ready to take over full time at SS. I'd set that at 600.
  12. Enrique. Wilson. Walker in LF would be worse.
  13. Concerned LSCF, sure and it's going to happen too. That's why you give Dusty Cedeno, Nomar, Hairston and Theriot for his middle IF and not Perez or Macias. If Hendry can't figure this out then it might be time for him to go as well. Hopefully Jim Bowden's idiocy will continue and Neifi will be a Nat next year. I'm afraid that this off season we will see that Hendry and Baker are closer than we think. :loco: In that case, when the beat writers write up their post-mortem on this season (I know Bruce will), they need to educate the common fan that Neifi's .275 BA is not a plus when it's accompanied with a .290 OBP. They need to be educated that Macias's versatility means nothing, since doing everything poorly isn't a plus. If people are educated, maybe the image conscious Trib will think twice before green lighting any dopey signings.

  15. On the plus side, the 8 game winning streak was the longest under Baker as a Cub manager.
  16. "But dude, you can't expect to be consistent during a 162 game seaosn. It's like the story of the flounder. You know, he's got his fin, and you see him swimming around, but he won't ever be in the same place, man."
  17. Dusty is a tax cheat. What would that make him in your world?
  18. So clearly, playing rookies would be pointless. That quote makes no sense. Why didn't the beat reporters ask a follow up? He contradicted himself in the same sentence!
  19. Wow, that'd be awesome. I'd do that, but Hendry wouldn't be so bold as to enrage the Chicago sports media by trading away Lee for basically a prospect, no matter how good the prospect might be.
  20. Which is very scary. Imagine how frightened Wood, Prior and Z are? With a Dusty-Approved pitching coach? They'll probably ice their elbows all winter in anticipation of throwing 140 pitches in a ST start.
  21. I was waiting until CF to talk about him. I imagine with the multiple middle infield options and lack of CF options, others were as well. I had mentioned him when we were talking about 2nd base. I advocated having a middle IF of Hairston/Nomar, with Cedeno playing the Neifi Perez role in 2006. We'd pick up Walker's option and deal him. I like Hairston, and think he'd be a really, really nice player to have on our team b/c of his versatility.
  22. Anyone who doesn't think Dick Pole won't just sit still a little closer to the rest of the team (ie, get promoted) is kidding themselves.
  23. Imagine that. And he's giving the rookies and kids a chance to play. huh. There are no words left....just...wow.
  24. To be honest with you, I would say that the low OBP, poor managing and the GM failing to fill holes are far, far and away the three biggest factors. None of those other factors come close to approaching the level of the big 3 flaws in this team. It goes in stages, though. Hendry let Sosa handcuff everything he did this offseason, and for some reason convinced himself that chemistry and health would carry us. That's 30% of the problem right there. The result was that we were stuck half of our team with such horrendous OBP that it almost obviated the offensive production of Lee and Ramirez. Next, the poor managing takes these problems and magnifies them. It's like trying to sprint on an already sprained ankle.
  25. Only way Scheurholz trades Giles for Patterson and Walker is if he's replaced by the evil, moustachioed twin from the other dimension. In other words, that won't happen.
