  1. wine tasting?
  2. Maybe it was a candle party.
  3. Let me go take a look at how Piniella structures his line ups and I'll get back to you on that. Better OBP in the #1 and #2 spots in the order. Probably explains why the D'Rays #3 hitters have more RBI's on the year than Derrek Lee. I'll take Piniella over Baker. So do you think Tampa's reluctance to play their top prospects and block them with vets is more indicative of their GM's philosiphy, or is it in line with Piniella's? Prior to being in Tampa, did he develop any position players in Seattle? Was he responsible for the Reds team in 1990?
  4. Let me go take a look at how Piniella structures his line ups and I'll get back to you on that. -young guy he has no choice on -young guy who outplayed an old guy -Huff -Old guy -youngish guy who hustles -old guy who's blocking a top prospect -old guy -K Gonz -Random DH :P At least he plays the young guy that outplays the old guy... he's platooned L/R :P
  5. FYI tonight's OF is Gaithright, Gomes and Crawford. Munson is DH'ing.
  6. Let me go take a look at how Piniella structures his line ups and I'll get back to you on that. -young guy he has no choice on -young guy who outplayed an old guy -Huff -Old guy -youngish guy who hustles -old guy who's blocking a top prospect -old guy -K Gonz -Random DH :P Which one of those guys is Gomes? Will Baldelli be back fully healthy next year? Well, I was doing that tounge in cheek, but Gomes would be 5th in that order. I would assume Baldelli would be healthy by ST, which means they have Gaithright, Crawford, Gomes, Huff and Baldelli in their OF. Seems a bit crowded...

  8. I'd offer Piniella money to stay away from Chicago. Far, far away. Just say no, Jim.
  9. Stay away, Jim Hendry. Just. Stay. Away.
  10. if you were looking for a bad song to use to put together a cubs clip to, I'd have gone with "This is how a Heart Breaks". Not only does it suck, it's accurate. :P
  11. I realize Theriot has PH several times. How about giving him a game in the field? If you don't need Soto, then why bother bringing him up? Because it's common for teams to bring up a 3rd catcher to help in sim games, bullpen, etc. I'm not worried about stunting Giovanni's growth. Theriot, I have no clue what position he plays, to be honest, but given that Baker resisted playing Cedeno who was hitting .380 at AAA and .300 here, I am just happy that he's giving him a shot to PH. Maybe they view him as a Macias replacement in 2006 and want to see how he handles irregular AB's. As far as Maddux getting to 15 wins, I don't really care if they run him out there every day from here on out. He's vested, so oh well. I'd rather see Hill start for Prior or especially Z, given age and importance to the future of the club.
  12. Aside from the fact that Luis Castillo plays 2B for the Marlins, and probably isn't going anywhere, that's not a good trade, DKWG. I would move Walker in the right deal, though.
  13. Theriot has PH quite a bit, JVB was used out of the pen a bit, too. The only ones not playing are Mitre, Hill and Soto. They don't really need Soto except in an emergency, and Mitre are known quantities. That leaves Hill, who is likely to start a couple times before the year is done.
  14. If Baker hadn't comically mismanaged the lineups by putting terrible 1-2 combos consistently, or running inferior LF options, or waiting til July to bat ARam 4th consistently, we might have 5-8 more wins right now, which puts us at least *in* the race for a playoff spot. Thus, blame goes to Baker.
  15. In realistic terms, I'd go with Wilkerson, since Bowden is dumb, and thus the cost of aquiring Wilkerson would be much less. Also, you aren't trading within the division, and I'm wary of doing so, unless you aren't giving anything of value, which wouldn't be the case wth Dunn. Also, In terms of the prospects that we have that are trading chips, I would doubt Guzman is worth much until he actually makes it through a whole year injury free.
  16. I would explore trade opportunities for Lee. Would Boston be interested in him and be willing to trade Manny in return? Would Anaheim be interested? I'd build around ARam, Z, Prior and Dempser as the closer. Murton is my starting LF (if no Manny) and Cedeno is my Neifi, filling in at 2nd, SS and 3B when needed. Walker stays unless we get a good offer. I'd keep Hairston around as a 5th OF. I'd target Kevin Millwood and Brian Giles in FA, and do everything possible to get them both. If you land Milwood, you can deal Williams. I'd target Manny, Torii Hunter and Alfonso Soriano in trades. I'd release, non-tender or otherwise dispose of Perez, Macias, Grieve and Wellemeyer. I'd use Hill, Mitre, Dopirak, Patterson and Sing as trading chips.
  17. I normally don't engage in schadenfraude, but this is so great to watch the Sox unravel and fall apart. I hate that organization....
  18. You don't think that the offense would be better with Murton in LF for a full year, and a middle IF with Walker, Nomar and Cedeno? Consider what our middle IF was this season for long stretches?
  19. That's why I'm very interested in what Murton could yield in a trade this offseason. Maybe for once, the Cubs could trade a prospect at his peak value. I don't think the Cubs have ever traded a prospect at the peak of his value. I don't think the Cubs would dare to do it, either, because this organization is obsessed with the PR aspect of the game, and they'd be too terrified to give up another Willis, or Brock, or whatever. I also think that a .275 line with a .350 or so OBP would be okay out of basically a rookie OF. That said, if Murton and others nets you an impact, ready-to-win now player of similar age to ARam and Lee, then Hendry would be stupid to not do it, given who our manager is.
  20. Grinder Baseball Rule #78: When choking away a 15 game lead, hang your hat on the fact that Scott Podsednik is the most overrated player in baseball.
  21. What do you do with Chipper after '06? He's got a 15 million dollar option with a 5 million buyout. If the option gets picked up, he's got the same thing the following year. Someone else said a while ago that Atlanta has money set aside so they can pay Hampton without needing to cut payroll or other such measures. I think ltb. I guess you pay the buyout. The biggest problem with the plan is that Chipper hates the OF and partially blamed it for his poor performance last year. I don't think Atlanta would trade Chipper before Andruw. I'd bet dollars to donuts that Chipper retires as a Brave. How about dealing for Trot Nixon?
  22. I truly, truly loathe the White Sox and 95% of their fans, and nothing would be sweeter than the sox choking away a 15 game lead. Go Tribe!
  23. Hi Bruce! Ask Prior why he doesn't develop a 3rd pitch!!
