  1. Just my 2 cents, but if Hendry gets involved in this I see Williams and Hill, and then Harvey, Cedeno or Dope, and one of the pool of bulk relievers being his peak offer.
  2. What makes you think Jeff Weaver will sign a contract like that? Did Scott Boras just get hit by a bus? He signed a contract like that for Millwood last offseason. Because Millwood needed to reestablish his value. Exactly the same case with Weaver this year. Completely different situations. The word on Millwood last offseason was that he was damaged goods. Weaver is a workhorse. Weaver also has a very bad reputation in baseball circles. He's known for being a high priced underachiever.
  3. Weaver: G IP H R HR BB SO W L Sv P/GS WHIP BAA ERA 34 224.0 220 111 35 43 157 14 11 0 99.1 1.17 .256 4.22 Millwood: G IP H R HR BB SO W L Sv P/GS WHIP BAA ERA 30 192.0 182 72 20 52 146 9 11 0 98.8 1.22 .248 2.86 The big difference in these 2 guys is that Weaver gave up 15 more HR's last season. Otherwise, he led Millwood in WHIP, K's and BB allowed. He also threw 32 more innings. The ERA plus his reputation mean he's going to need to reestablish his market value over the next 2 seasons. Weaver is 29, so he's just entering the prime pitching age. A one year "Show Me" deal is probably what Boras is looking for. If Weaver can then put up a sub 4 era on a winning team, he'd likely get a very lucrative offer next offseason.

  5. What makes you think Jeff Weaver will sign a contract like that? Did Scott Boras just get hit by a bus? Relative to the other FA pitchers, he's a bargain. He's already gotten his "big" contract, played it out, and never really put the bust label behind him. Everything that's been reported on him this offseason has him below market value.
  6. 1. Bradley is younger 2. Bradley is faster 3. Bradley is a better defender 4. Bradley is a switch-hitter 5. Bradley has (a bit) more power Other than that, they're identical.....I'd rather have Bradley as my 2 hitter than Walker, by a comfortable margin. Position-specific production be damned. Bradley is also injury prone, and a really big risk to put into the same clubhouse with Dusty and no real veteran everyday leader. I'm really, really leery of Bradley. I like his production, but he's a bit too high risk/high reward for my tastes.
  7. I always thought that Weaver would make a very good closer. I think he'd be a very reliable 4th starter for us. I agree. The way this crazy market has been going who knows how much he could get. I think that since the general consensus on him was that he was overrated, you could get him on the cheap, and he's probably better than Millwood is. Give Mr. Hendry a call then! If only I could!

  9. If true, then the market for Walker is really drying up. That could be a blessing in disguise. True, but Walker, if traded properly, could help us net a corner OF.

  12. No way. He did well in like low A ball. He's what, 25 or 26? Why waste a roster spot? He's probably going to get picked up by a team that can afford a project on their roster.
  13. Yup. He's now second on the depth chart. Think he will make an appearance in the game? If Orton has a bad first half and we're down by more than one score, then yes.
  14. Will he be a pitcher? If so, then yes.
  15. If you want a pitcher who's going to be productive and not demand a bloated contract, why not go after Jeff Weaver? He's durable, has a big upside still, and will likely sign a reasonable 1-2 year deal under $8m per.
  16. I hope he accepts the assignment and goes to Iowa. It's not like he'll ever be re-rostered, and maybe he can pass some useful ML info to someone, or turn into a good coach. He seemed like a good teamate, and players that suck but try usually make good coaches. If he doesn't catch on somewhere, he's made a couple million. So it's hard for me to feel too sorry for him.
  17. The Guzman contract. At least Soriano has a couple positive attributes.
  18. I doubt it. We've had conversations like this before (like when Murton and Greenberg were brought up), but very little came of it. Murton got the start on his first day, but then sat against righties forever. Yeah, but Murton performed to such a level in that 2 months on the roster that Hendry may not give Baker a potential platoon mate for him in LF. In other words, he's taken Macias and signed Mabry instead of a younger LH bench player. Mabry hasn't played everyday in 8 years. Mabry not playing everyday in 8 years isn't going to stop Dusty from giving him way too many starts. Murton is pretty much locked in to start in LF, but I have a feeling Dusty will still keep him on a short leash. Hendry isn't sending any messages to Dusty. They tend to think alike a lot more than most of us wish they did. It;ll stop Dusty from starting him when Mabry gets hurt from playing too much. Plus, I really, really have faith that Murton showed Baker enough to earn more patience from him that was given to Dubois, Choi, etc.

  20. I would have had Dusty choosing to pitch to Lowell over Harris in the NLCS. That might be the most underrated stupid move by a manager in the history of the major leagues. The Bartman gets roasted and yet a lot of the general public forgets about AGone and this stupid Dusty-ism... Baker put on a clinic in how to manage a team out of a pennant that fortnight.
  21. Could it be that Hendry is sending Baker a very strong message? He's DFA'd Macias and spoken strongly about Cedeno being an everyday player. He's given up some good prospects for Pierre. Is he trying to signal to Dusty that he's going to have to win this year, or else Hendry will dump him in order to save himself?
  22. You're making me feel fuzzy inside. I want to hug CubbieRich now. That very statement illustrates the power of Jose Macias. He is a uniter, not a divider. Dare I say...Constitutional Amendment = Macias in 2016?
  23. Rocket=Komedy Genius remember before every game in the dugout they'd show him doing some crazy latin handshake with zambrano and other latin players? good move for the stat nerds i guess, but this kills team chemistry Maybe Kyle Orton can hang out before games and lead them. Or, failing that, hopefully he taught the Secret Panamanian Utility Guy Handshake to Neifi and Ronny before he left.
  24. Every reoprt I've heard said they did not offer arby to Burnitz.
