  1. I'm not listening to The Score, I'm reading the Tribune (which owns the Cubs). I don't do either any more. I'm starting to like it. I hear no mention of the Sox or Cubs (unless I stop by here).
  2. Grant Hill is the only person to go through the Duke program that I didn't hate. And I don't really care much for Grant Hill. It's the program, not the skin color. To suggest otherwise is ignorance.
  3. Stop listening to The Score.
  4. In no particular order: All Bud Light except "Hidden Bud Lights" Both Ameriquest spots Mastercard - MacGyver Sprint - Crime Deterrent FedEx caveman Vault: Kickass Scarecrow
  5. 4 parts gin, 1 part vodka, splash of vermouth. You know, same mix as in the last 10 drafts...
  6. 1. Cards 2. Brewers 3. Astros 4. Reds 5. Pirates The Cubs will be so bad, they won't finish
  7. it's a deer (Spikes refers to antlers I guess). It wasn't the mascot I voted for. He voted for this one: http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a378/mike_yale/moransface.jpg
  8. Nope, it's the same as any position defensively. I've seen it done too, I just can't remember who it was.
  9. I'll be darned. From Merriam-Webster: Main Entry: em·bar·rass Pronunciation: im-'bar-&s Function: transitive verb Etymology: French embarrasser, from Spanish embarazar, from Portuguese embaraçar, from em- (from Latin in-) + baraça noose 1 a : to lose to Purdue this season b : to involve in financial difficulties c : to cause to experience a state of self-conscious distress
  10. I apologize if this is a duplicate... Grading the Big Ten (ESPN Insider Link) From Tom Luginbill and Craig Haubert, Scouts Inc. 11. With his age and past performances, Williams being our 3rd best starter is not necessarily something to be proud of for the upcoming season. I think he has the potential to become a pretty solid 2-3 starter over the next 2-3 years, but what are we going to trade him for? We're committed to too many mediocre players at too many positions to make a move. Are we going to trade him for pitching? Seems redundant to me. Package him with whom to get what? I don't think it's enough to make much of an impact. The smart move would have been to find a way to make an impact trade in RF (i.e. if Giles isn't available, is Abreu?) with Williams as a key part of the deal prior to signing Jones. It could possibly still happen, but if I see an outfield of Jones/Pierre/Abreu vs. Murton/Pierre/Abreu, I may vomit 162 times. Maybe Hendry tried, I doubt it. As the team stands right now, dealing Williams will probably get us nothing with as much value as he should bring.
  12. Ya hear that Mark? The Cards is runnin scared...
  13. Heathcoate was a hoot.
  14. If I somehow get the job, I vow to trade Dunn, Lopez, Freel, Griffey, and $20 million to the Cubs for Neifi, Brownlie, Rusch, and Koronka.
  15. I just noticed this, forgive me if it's already been discussed, but it seems as though Purdue is banking hard on JC transfers and a bunch of "other guys" panning out. Wow, their incoming class looks pretty ugly.
  16. Funny you should mention this. Yesterday I drove past a well-reputed bar and grill on the north side of Lake Washington, which I found out closed shop. I fantasized for a while about turning it into a Cubs joint: "North Side Bar & Grill? Nah, NorSHORE Bar & Grill!" Seattle people might think it was a misspelling of Northshore, but Chicago transplants and Cubs fans would get the difference." I'd put a beer garden in the back for summer and smokers (there's a statewide smoking ban for public places in Washington), and the customers could watch Cub games or have WGN radio piped into their booths. Unfortunately, I'm still paying my student loans and being a first-time restauranteur (or would that be restauranteuse? I am female) isn't something I really want to do. But I do wonder whether a Seattle Cubs bar would be popular for a long-term enterprise. There's a bar in Cedar Rapids, IA doing very well even though they're openly advertising it's a Michigan Wolverines bar. If a Michigan bar can survive in the middle of Hawkeye country, a Cubs bar can survive anywhere.
  17. Funny, I think that's exactly what makes Pat and Ron a great combo. Like the night Ron was giving the pitching matchups against the Brewers and trying to figure out who the Cubs used to have that reminded him so much of Ruben Quevedo. We all knew it was Ruben himself, and Pat gently got Ron there too. Ron may not be the most informative, but he and Pat together make the broadcasts interesting.
  18. I like this one, Card boy! :D
  19. Just let us know which night before you try it!
  20. Felix wouldn't be a bad choice, but I don't know how much the Mariners will actually use him (I'm too lazy to check out their roster and plans). As far as 3rd goes, Ensberg and Glaus wouldn't be bad choices (potentially better than Chavez) and could probably be had a couple of rounds from now. Blalock and Mora in late rounds to fill out a loaded roster wouldn't be bad picks either.
  21. I loved how Len called Brenly a moron and said the Cards suck. OK, he didn't, but it would have been funny. Thanks again, Len!
  22. And to celebrate, I shall either go to 25 games or buy 25 beers. Aw heck, I think I'll do both.
